Our Favorite Places to Go for Bridal Lingerie

Happy Monday everybody!! Anyone realize that today - August 5th - is National Underwear Day? Well, it is! So I thought it’d be a great time to talk about lingerie and peep some of the things you can wear under your wedding dress, on your wedding night, or for your honeymoon.

I’ll be honest, I probably spent more time researching undergarments than my actual wedding gown itself. I wore a fit and flare silhouette, so I knew I had to get a bra and panties that would work with the dress and not add a ton of extra layers underneath. I think I probably bought 2 or 3 strapless bras that I thought would work (and didn’t - I went sans bra on the actual day) and the same number of thongs and accompanying shape wear that ended up proving a bit too bulky.

After all was said and done, I probably could have used a lot more advice about suitable accoutrements than what I had asked for. So, here are a few things to keep in mind if you’ve started looking for that just-as-important-as-your-dress lingerie.

Go in-store at least once.

Online shopping is everything, right? Especially for brides who - in the last few months of planning - barely have time to pee let alone peruse bras and panties in a store. BUT we’d caution any bride to simply wait on ordering anything online until you’ve gone to a lingerie store or even a bridal salon (if you got your gown in a salon, this is the best place to go) and had a chat with the chicks there. These experts can give you all the tips for perfecting your under gown undergarment situation and you’ll be a much more informed shopper if you do end up checking out online later. Bring photos of your dress/you in it and any questions you might have about the fit / areas you might be nervous about. They’ll want to get a gauge on the silhouette and be able to curate pieces and creative styling solutions that will work 👌with your big day ensem.

Also something awesome about sticking with your bridal salon on your lingerie hunt: they’ve gotten to know you, they know your dress, and they have the best know-how for making the dress look TDF on your wedding day. They’ll also be able to let you know about specific alterations/sew-in jobs that they can do, well in advance of the occasion, to make ‘built in’ underpinnings that are even more tailored to your shape.

Beware of heavily embellished options.

The ‘BRIDE AF’ or ‘SOON-TO-BE WIFED UP’ wording on a pair of engaged panties or bachelorette bikini bottoms are totally fine, in fact, why the hell not? But for your wedding day lingerie, maybe try to avoid going too extra extra on the looks. Rhinestones and pearls are fun and certainly appropo for brides, but they don’t always show well under the dress. Simple lace is a great fabric choice and still translates to bride in the best way. Plus, if you’re still really amped up on getting glitzy and frosty with your intimates, then save it for after your wedding or your honeymoon - when the dress, caftans, bathing suits, etc. come off and you and boo plan on getting down.

Commit to the classic bridal color palette.

Yes, we’re ALL about brides going for non-traditional palettes on their wedding days, but we’ll say that the classic white, ivory, nude, champagne, blush cosmetic spectrum will probably serve you best for what goes underneath. Not to mention, the palette is preferred for a TON of baller lingerie brands, and can distinguish their aisle-style collections from their regular, every day options. Their bridal/wedding collections, in these colors, might even be crafted with bridal-specific features, padding, moisture-wicking fabrications, etc. that make them 100p for wedding gown/silhouette pairing. So, if you’re doing some trolling on Instagram or find yourself eyeing up all the bride-vibe shades, see if the brands you’re obsessing over have those curated bride collections. You might stumble upon several things you hadn’t even thought about matching with your dress, but now realize you could really use.

And since it’s National Underwear Day, we thought we’d highlight a few of our favorite bridal lingerie loves - names that you should absolutely keep on your radar. They’ve got all the functional basics (so make sure you’re looking at all their available skus - bras, bodysuits, panties, slips, robes, etc.), but they do the sexy exceptionally well… and what better way to celebrate Nat’l Underwear Day than to show you some of those. 😉
