Patent leather metallic accents and trippy mirror tricks give this inspiration shoot a distinctly Sci-fi vibe in the best possible way. Who doesn't want to be an intergalactic desert princess on their wedding day? Now don't get us wrong, this team still embraces all of the natural beauty of the desert, but they simply brought an otherworldly vibe to the already mysterious landscape. This is a fresh new take on the desert boho wedding and we're here for it!
Hues of blue, orange, and silver play beautifully together in these photos by Lara Onac. Wendy Vidal designed and orchestrated this modern wedding inspiration. Savia Bruta beautifully integrated fresh florals into this natural landscape so well that you can hardly tell where nature ends and design begins. RISING FROM THE ASHES
Our goal for this creative project was to achieve an impact through highly aesthetic but unconventional images, with a certain air of fashion, where reality mixes with imagination through a hypnotic landscape. We looked for contrasts and a fusion with the environment, which was a risky mix that integrated into the landscape very well. A mirage in the desert, at a time in human history where our own dreams in the form of hope sometimes made us believe that the world we lived in was not real.
The wedding industry has been altered; this is a reality. We visualized this bride as a phoenix who is resurfacing from a state of lethargy, awakening from an imposed paralysis to become the woman she wants to be: sophisticated but delicate, self-confident but fragile, determined and happy.
A DESERT LANDSCAPE
This editorial took place in the desert of Tabernas–located in the natural park of El Cabo de Gata, in the south of Spain, it is the only desert in Europe. The desert, the dress with glittering appliqués, and the mirrors as a metaphor for a mirage were the cornerstones of our inspiration.
The very nature of the place and the futuristic overtones in the design also fueled our inspiration. The desert, with its arid, vast geography, the desolate environment almost devoid of life but witness to the passage of time in each trace of erosion of its mountains, was the perfect setting for our inspirational editorial, where, through contrasts, we could reflect our vision.
BREATHING LIFE INTO THE DESERT
The challenge was to create contrasts and at the same time merge textures and colors, integrating live floral elements into an arid lifeless desert without generating visual noise. We wanted to bring those dusty, sophisticated, and delicate sensations to the table styling and decoration of the ceremony set. For that, we used mirrors and silks as textile pieces on the table. We integrated paper art in natural shapes that play with the natural floral elements.
For the glassware we used faceted glasses that created sparkles with the shocking and wonderful light of southern Spain. For the plates and napkin holders, we incorporated a new texture, ceramics. These pieces were made by hand which is an essential element when we speak of Spanish crafts. For the stationery, we used worn, dirty effects, again in contrast to the delicate craft paper.
THE FUTURE IS FASHION
Our bride is a sophisticated, futuristic bride, confident in herself but delicate in essence, and happy. To represent that, we selected the haute couture dresses (made by hand) from the Fenix collection by Santos Costura (founded in Spain and NYC). This dress represents a woman who amid the pandemic shines with elegance and her own light. We kept the accessories for the first look simple, sparkling earrings to pair with the dress with hand-sewn appliques. The look is completed by silver patent leather boots, inspired in the '70s. For the second look, our bride wore a dress that was not yet presented on social networks or in stores, with appliques that simulate mother-of-pearl. We complemented the look with those beautiful handmade ceramic earrings. For the makeup, we went for a simple but impressive look. Our main goal was to focus on the eyes (so important today with the use of masks). We incorporated touches of glitter on the eyeshadow and a shocking cat-eye (a 2021 super trend).
AWAKING FROM THEIR SLUMBER
It was very challenging to get out of our comfort zone as designers, creatives, stylists, and photographers after so many months of lockdown and to carry out a conceptually risky editorial, especially considering the current situation. It wasn’t easy to organize a production with a team of twelve people traveling hundreds of kilometers away to reach that location from different parts of the country with complicated travel restrictions (only allowed for professional reasons). We worked outdoors, with adverse weather conditions for this set-up (the wind in that area is extremely difficult). Capturing the few hours of adequate light was a major challenge for the whole team. Having said that, our satisfaction with the result is enormous considering the effort we put in.
