How to Pick the Perfect Pair of Bridal Earrings

How to Pick the Perfect Pair of Bridal Earrings Bridal earrings:

If you asked anyone what a bride’s favorite part of her wedding day look was, he or she’d probably say the dress, but we’d be willing to bet that brides themselves liked their accessories even better. Those finishing touches, though… The engagement ring falls under that umbrella, but the bridal baubles are really the 💰💰💰accessories; after all, how many celebrities stop talking about their designer gowns on the red carpet when asked where their enviable jewels came from #harrywinstonheyyy. It’s the frosting that really counts for those extra special, once-in-a-lifetime occasions, right? And bracelets and necklaces are nice, but earrings are everything. Nothing lights up a bride’s face more than some sparkly ear candy, and earrings will show in every photo from the big day. So, we synced with San Francisco-based bridal accessories e-boutique, Perfect Details, to get the real rundown on how a bride can feel like a total starlet when she picks the earrings she’ll wear for her ‘I Dos.’

For their award shows, celebrities usually get their jewels through famous friends of their favorite stylists. It’d be kind of amazing if brides could call in these #somethingborrowed favors for their big day, but more often than not, their borrowed baubles are more heirloom pieces, sweet in their sentimentality, but not exactly statement-making. That’s why they go with something brand-spanking-new with loads of sparkle, and earrings make a huge impression. Unfortunately, most stores have a very limited selection of bridal earrings, so brides have to shop online for the perfect pair. How will they look in person? Will the pair vibe with my dress, will they vibe with me? All good questions - but for such a momentous event, there can’t be any guessing. So, we turned to Perfect Details’ owner Lisa Levine and in-house stylist, Rachel Howard, for some tips and advice on how to shop for earrings online (bridal or not) and how to determine the best style of earrings for one’s face shape.

Make sure you're taking note!

Of course, you can always wear whatever earrings you like and feel fiercest wearing, but certain earring designs work better for certain face shapes than others (if you’re oval, though, you can pretty much have your pick - consider yourselves the universal acceptors, we’re sooooo jelly). Here are a few things to keep in mind

How to Pick the Perfect Pair of Bridal Earrings Earrings:

Round-shaped face

With a round-shaped face, your goal is lengthen. Long dangle and drop earring styles, especially narrower styles work best. Avoid hoop and round designs, especially round studs.

Square-shaped face

With a square-shaped face, you want to lengthen, again, and soften the angles of the face. Medium-to-long length earrings are best. Look for styles that are round or angular.

How to Pick the Perfect Pair of Bridal Earrings Earrings:

Heart-shaped face

With a heart-shaped face, it’s all about balancing the triangular shape of the face. Earrings that are wider at the bottom than the top, have a curved shape or triangular shape flatter the face the best.

Long narrow face

With a long and narrow face, you want to play opposites and try to widen the face and add volume. Look for large posts+studs as well as short, bulky drops.

Diamond-shaped face

With a diamond-shaped face, again it’s time to balance out all of your angles. You’ll do well with delicate drops, shorter earrings, designs with more width than length, and chandelier earrings that are wider at the base. Avoid earring shapes that mirror the shape of the face and that are wider at the top or middle.

This key is truly all you need when you’re strategizing your dangler game for ‘I Do’ day, but also remember that earrings aren’t just something you want to wing for your wedding… The biggest issue that brides go up against with online jewelry shopping is not paying attention to the dimensions of said jewelry.

So this is your solve

Most websites will include the length of the earring and the width at the widest point in their description of the item, as well as the approximate length the earrings will hang at. At Perfect Details, the team painstakingly measures each earring and includes the dimensions in the description underneath the picture. Make sure you 👀👀👀 for this information on any website you buy from, because once you know the dimensions of the earrings you are considering, you can start the decision making process:

  1. Select earrings of different lengths from your jewelry box, choosing ones that are similar in length to what you want in a bridal earring or any earring you are shopping for.

  2. Measure the length and width of the earrings.

  3. Line up the earrings by length so that you can reference the lengths while shopping.

  4. Now, when you read the description, you’ll have a physical earring next to you to reference for size.
