Devil’s Thumb Ranch Colorado Wedding From Aaron Snow

Devil's Thumb Ranch Colorado Wedding From Aaron Snow

Even though we are positively ready for summer to arrive, we still can appreciate a downright fashionable winter wedding.
This beautiful winter wedding was held at the Devil's Thumb Ranch in Colorado. The bride wore a beautiful fit-n-flare gown which had a full feathery skirt. Bridesmaids wore an assortment of colors but they tied everything together by wearing gorgeous fur coats. It is a definite show stopper photographed by Aron Snow.

Our wedding was absolutely perfect and it all began with a winter storm of historic proportions hitting the midwest! The week prior to the wedding was full of unbelievable travel stories, great snow, extreme winter skiing, hot drinks, hot tubs, and late nights laughing and celebrating with our friends and family in Winter Park, CO!  On Friday we moved to Devil's Thumb Ranch for the wedding festivities. Below are a few of the things that were very special to us on our day!
The Location: We fell in love with Winter Park and Devil's Thumb Ranch for many reasons. First, we wanted a destination wedding where we could ski, get away, and spend quality time with our guests. Secondly, the rustic ranch setting at DTR fit our style perfectly because we both work in the horse industry and the lodge was simply perfect and beautiful.
The Dress Rehearsal: We wanted to kick off the wedding weekend with something different so we invited everyone to go tubing at the Fraser Tubing Hill. This was a blast especially with 80+ sledding together! Afterwards, the entire wedding was invited to the dress rehearsal dinner at the Heck's Lodge in DTR. It was a lovely meal around the huge rock fire place complete with more roasting outside.
The Dress: This is my favorite part! The lace on the dress is the skirt of my grandmother's wedding dress. My grandmother handmade her wedding dress over 50 years ago and my grandparents are still happily married today! On the inside of the dress there is a piece of fabric stitched in baby blue with the names and dates of everyone who has worn the dress. We worked with Carolyn's Couture in Oklahoma City to design my dress and allow for my grandmothers to be returned to its original design! It truly was so special and perfect to me. I keep trying to figure out who came up with the idea that you only get to wear your wedding dress once!
First Sight: This was truly special. Of course the mountain setting was unbelievable, but it was snowing so hard that outside shots were potentially not possible. However, the snow stopped for about 45 minutes right at the time of our first sight together. I can't describe the feeling and excitement of seeing my handsome husband on that day and the images with the snow storm over the mountain are unbelievable.
The Trees: Fifteen potted river birch trees were hauled in for the ceremony and reception. These trees had quite a travel story and I thank my aunt and uncle for delivering them! The special part is that they are now planted around my parent's ranch in Oklahoma as a memory of our wedding.
Bridesmaids and Groomsmen: All of these people have been huge blessings in our lives and we couldn't have imagined our day without them. Each bridesmaid was given a vintage fox or mink stole and the groomsmen were given matching sweater vests for the wedding.
The Minister: My father's best friend from college and a great family friend officiated. I knew that I wanted the ceremony itself to be so meaningful and his words about our marriage covenant and the love in that room on that day are words we will never forget. We were so lucky to be able to be married by such a good friend.
The Toasts: This was another favorite part of ours. I think the toasts lasted almost an hour, but all of the words were very special to us. We definitely laughed, cried, and recalled some great memories that had led to our big day.
The reception: All I have to say is I just married my best friend and we had sure had fun. The band was great, the dancing was pretty fantastic, and we are lucky to be blessed with the best friends and family. The pictures say it all better than I ever could. Somehow the photographer captured the day just as it happened -perfectly!
