Contemporary Wedding in Belgium

Belgium wedding

What a rush! Two weddings and a dinner party, well actually two dinner parties. Alexandra and Timothy's wedding day took advantage of every single hour of their big day. This sweet couple from Belgium certainly weren't gathering any moss as they rolled from the court house, to a fancy luncheon, to their gorgeous ring ceremony and finally ended their evening at their elegantly modern dinner party reception. We recommend you take a seat for this fast paced and contemporary wedding in Belgium.
If you loved this wedding as much as we did, we know you are going to want to see more; That is why we have our full gallery. Check it out and see even more of Alexandra and Timothy's spectacular wedding captured by Melissa Milis Photography.

From the Bride:My husband proposed to me while we were decorating our apartment. He sent me out of the bedroom we were painting by asking me to go look for his cellphone. When I came back irritated because I didn’t find it, I saw something was written on the wall. It said “ALEXANDRA, MARRY ME?”. Of course I answered “YES!”

Once we were engaged, I started looking for a great photographer, unique locations and creative vendors. I found and collected inspiration on Pinterest and started designing and doing DIY projects myself. I designed our letterpress invitations, our wedding website, made table numbers and coasters, and made a big chalkboard as an eye catcher at our dinner party.

While planning the wedding I kept saying that I just should have hired a wedding planner or plan the wedding at a location where the decoration and catering was already included. Usually couples in Belgium rent a restaurant or have a party at an old castle where everything is included. I understand for a lot of brides this sounds very romantic, but we wanted a more modern wedding, yet with a rustic and personal touch. So, we decided to go for 3 locations: an old factory for our dinner party and two exclusive locations with beautiful rooftops; one for lunch with our close relatives and one for our reception.

Being from Belgium, it is not easy to find unique vendors in this country. You have to know what you want and do a lot yourself. But we were very happy with the final result. We had an amazing day filled with love. Apart from finding unique locations and vendors, the hardest part for me was getting all of them together, so we could bring the old factory to life with the decoration, flowers, catering etc.

Now that I look back at it, I'm glad that I did the planning myself. I'm a little bit of a control freak and I had a very good idea of what I wanted my wedding to look like. However it was a very long process to plan for just one day and it brought along a lot of stress on myself and the people around me.

Being a graphic designer I wanted to do my own invitations, a wedding website, a big chalkboard and some DIY projects. Most of the things I planned in my head I eventually accomplished. There were some extra little graphic details and decoration elements I wanted to do, but I just didn't have enough time for it. Also, all those little extra details also have a price and things do tend to add up quickly.

Basically there will always be something you wanted to do or forget to think of, but when the day comes, you just have to let go and enjoy the day. It's very cliché, but it's over before you know it, so enjoy it while it lasts and don't mind the little things that could go wrong.
