A Burgundy Velvet And Lace Wedding In Mexico

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you think Mexico destination wedding? We are guessing it's probably not the color burgundy... or the fabrics velvet or lace, but that is exactly why we are so in love with Shelby and Mark's edgy Cabo wedding day! Not only did they turn all those classic ideas on their head, they did it with some insanely great wedding style and taste.

You won't want to miss any of this sweet destination wedding day, or the cute proposal story. Keep scrolling to find out more, and as always, there is a full gallery of images just waiting for you, thanks to Sarah Anne Photography!

Who proposed?

Marc proposed to me. I love this story!
He knows how obsessed I am with my niece so he wanted to incorporate her in the proposal somehow. I was planning a trip back home because it was one of my best friend’s bachelorettes and last-minute Marc asks if he can come along home too as a last hoorah with our families and friends since summer was ending.

So we get home and I am napping because we had a red-eye flight and when I wake up my sister and my niece were there playing with Marc and asked to go on a walk to their house (they live on our farm). When we get there my sister asks if I want to read my niece a new book and when I sit down to read it I realize it’s me in a princess gown on the cover that says “The Story of Princess Zsa Zsa” ( my aunt name). My niece the whole time was shouting “hey that’s you!!” It was very sweet. It was a storybook that Marc had written about our love story and had an artist in Hollywood illustrate us. The very last page was him proposing to me and the best part was when he got down on one knee and opened the box my niece stole the ring, put it on her finger and took off lol we had to chase her down to get it back. It was adorable, I loved that she was a part of the engagement and that I was able to celebrate with all my family and friends right then and there.

How did you choose your wedding venue?

We both really wanted to have an intimate destination wedding without a resort and that complimented our personalities. We started searching tags on Instagram #caboweddings and we kept seeing Acre Baja as one of the venues. We took a flight a few weeks later to check a few out and we FELL IN LOVE with Acre Baja as soon as we saw it. I grew up on a farm and loved that they had a farm on their property and Marc cooks like a crazy Italian and he loved that most of the food was grown on the farm and then once we tried the food and drinks it sealed the deal. It had that rustic farm-feel that reminded me of home, but yet the modern romance that we wanted. Also! The owners are Canadian, it felt like a slice of home in every way!

The Big Day

Our theme was Edgy Bohemian Romance. We coordinated with our planner (Amy Abbott) a lot and told her our vision and how we love the boho feels but wanted to be different and she kept commenting on how we both are so edgy and that we should incorporate it into our décor. Her and her team totally ran with that and executed everything we wanted and more.

I love lace and tall candles so our planner (Amy Abbott) and her team came up with a vision board for us. She incorporated lace, burgundy candles, and accents and these unreal velvet napkins and menus to add some edginess to the romantic ambiance.

Our bouquets and decor consisted of these beautiful garden roses with pampas grass to add texture, and then hanging were burgundy ribbons and white lace.

If you could sum up your wedding day in one sentence, how would you describe it?
Pure magic.
