Some love stories begin with a grand gesture, while others begin much more simply. For Grace and Tyler, it was an introduction during their junior year of high school, when Grace’s cousin decided to bring together two students from rival schools.
That introduction grew into a relationship that years later brought them to The Venue at Oakdale in Arkansas for a wedding filled with vibrant summer color. Grace knew from the beginning that she wanted flowers to be one of the defining elements of the celebration, envisioning bright blooms balanced by crisp whites and the warmth of candlelight. From high school rivals to a surprise proposal
Years after their high school introduction, Tyler began planning a proposal with help from both of their families. The timing made the surprise particularly fitting because Grace was simultaneously planning a surprise birthday trip for him, completely unaware that he had something much bigger in the works.
With their families helping keep his plans secret, Tyler brought Grace to Klyde Warren Park in Dallas, Texas. There, surrounded by their parents and illuminated “Marry Me” letters, he asked Grace to marry him.
When it came time to plan the wedding itself, Grace already had a clear vision. She wanted a celebration where vibrant florals were not simply decorative accents but an immersive part of the entire experience.

A ceremony transformed into a garden in full bloom
Photographed by Lela and Lyla, bright whites, citrus tones, and vibrant summer colors established the floral palette by Tanarah Luxe Floral, but one of the most impactful design decisions came from the shape of the ceremony itself.
During planning, Kathryn and Lance Shingleur suggested creating a curved aisle rather than a traditional straight walkway. Vibrant blooms lined the floor along its winding path, transforming the chapel into a lush garden setting and creating a dramatic entrance for the ceremony.
At the altar, a disappearing arch filled with cascading flowers created another focal point. The design framed Grace and Tyler in blooms without overwhelming them, allowing the flowers to feel abundant while keeping the couple at the center of the ceremony.
The floral details continued into the reception, where candlelight softened the brighter summer colors and created a warmer atmosphere as the celebration moved into the evening.
Floral details from the tables to the dance floor
Rather than confining the garden inspiration to traditional floral arrangements, Grace and Tyler carried it into unexpected details throughout the reception.
Floral-print napkins brought pattern to the tables, while a custom vinyl dance floor extended the motif into the center of the celebration. Overhead, a dramatic hanging floral installation introduced another layer of blooms and gave the reception space a sense of movement and dimension.
Together, those details created a cohesive floral story without relying on identical arrangements everywhere. Bright blooms established the palette, printed elements carried it beyond the centerpieces, and candlelight brought a romantic glow to the more vibrant colors.
A Mexican-inspired wedding menu
Grace and Tyler carried the celebratory spirit into dinner with a menu by Vibrant Occasions that eventually transitioned into a full Mexican-inspired feast.
Cocktail-hour bites included cheese-stuffed mushrooms, saucy Asian meatballs, honey chipotle BBQ chicken picks, and spinach artichoke crostini. For dinner, guests could choose from pork carnitas, shredded brisket, and pollo asado tacos alongside Mexican street corn, cilantro lime rice, salsa, and plenty of chips with cheese dip.
The abundant, relaxed menu offered a fun counterpoint to the romantic floral design and gave guests plenty to enjoy before the celebration moved onto the dance floor.
An ombre floral wedding cake
With flowers already playing such an important role throughout the wedding, Grace chose to keep the structure of the wedding cake by Michelle Mayer relatively simple and let the blooms provide the visual impact.
An ombre cascade of flowers flowed from the top of the cake downward, connecting the dessert to the colorful floral story seen throughout the ceremony and reception. The display cake itself remained relatively small, while additional cake was prepared in the kitchen for the catering team to slice and serve to guests.
It was another example of the balance that defined the wedding design. Even with an abundance of flowers, each element had a clear purpose, allowing the blooms to remain the star without making every detail feel overly elaborate.
A father-daughter dance months in the making
For all the thought that went into the wedding design, one of Grace’s favorite memories came from something she and her father had been working on long before the flowers arrived at the venue.
For months, the two practiced a choreographed father-daughter dance together. Their rehearsals became their own bonding experience, filled with laughter as they prepared for the moment they would finally perform it in front of everyone.
On the wedding day, that practice paid off with a dance that was playful, emotional, and deeply personal. It brought plenty of laughter from their guests while also becoming one of the most meaningful moments of the reception for Grace.
After a day defined visually by flowers, color, and candlelight, the dance was a reminder that some of the most memorable wedding details are not designed at all. They are created through the time spent together before the celebration even begins.
From an Arkansas garden to a Cabo sunset
After the wedding, Grace and Tyler traded Arkansas for Cabo and a honeymoon at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Resort, a special gift from Grace’s grandfather.
The newlyweds spent the trip relaxing, enjoying the food, and finally slowing down after months of wedding planning. A sunset catamaran cruise became a highlight, giving them one more memorable experience to close out the celebration.
