For Emma and Harrison’s wedding at The Other Side in the Bahamas, the island wasn’t simply the destination. It became the inspiration behind nearly every design decision.
Rather than competing with the turquoise water, lush greenery, and natural surroundings, Emma and Harrison wanted their celebration to feel like an extension of them. With help from Little Island Design and photographed by Jamie Vinson, shades of blue and green mingled with locally sourced greenery, wicker, shells, candlelight, and organic textures, creating a look that felt distinctly Bahamian while remaining timeless and refined.
The goal was never traditional destination-wedding formality. Instead, they embraced something more effortless: coastal sophistication with an unmistakable island spirit.
And when the forecast threatened to interfere? Well, Emma had already called in a little backup.
Letting the Bahamas inspire the design
With a destination this naturally beautiful, Emma and Harrison knew the landscape needed to remain at the center of the visual story.
The turquoise water provided color that couldn’t be recreated through décor, while the island’s abundant greenery brought an organic quality to the celebration. Instead of introducing a palette that competed with those surroundings, shades of blue and green reinforced what was already there.
Natural materials added another layer. Wicker accents, shells, candles, and textural details brought warmth and dimension while maintaining the relaxed quality they wanted.
It was elevated, but never overly polished – a wedding designed to make guests feel immersed in the Bahamas rather than transported somewhere else entirely.
An organic island ceremony
For the outdoor ceremony, greenery filled the aisle, creating an abundant but natural transition toward the altar.
Rather than relying on overly formal floral arrangements, the design embraced the organic shapes and textures associated with the island. Tropical-inspired elements felt at home against the surrounding landscape, allowing the ceremony to feel intentionally designed without losing its sense of place.
Airy linen attire reinforced that relaxed elegance, bringing an effortless quality to the fashion that felt particularly suited to Emma and Harrison’s outdoor Bahamian celebration.
Wicker, shells, and natural coastal textures
The coastal references throughout Emma and Harrison’s wedding were subtle rather than thematic.
Shells appeared alongside wicker accents, candlelight, locally sourced greenery, and other natural textures. Together, they created an aesthetic that nodded to island life without turning the celebration into an overtly nautical wedding.
That restraint made the design feel more sophisticated. Instead of filling the space with recognizable beach motifs, the couple borrowed materials, colors, and textures from their surroundings.
The result felt unmistakably coastal precisely because it didn’t have to announce itself as such.

Of all the carefully considered details that went into Emma and Harrison’s wedding weekend, perhaps the most memorable had absolutely nothing to do with flowers or tablescapes.
Planning an outdoor wedding in the Bahamas meant there was one particularly important variable Emma couldn’t control: the weather – so she decided to try anyway.
In a wonderfully unconventional bit of wedding planning, Emma hired a witch through Etsy in hopes of securing a rain-free wedding day. The night before the wedding, the forecast was still showing a 50% chance of rain right in the middle of Saturday’s celebration.
Emma went to sleep knowing there was little left to do but hope for the best. Then she woke up – the rain had completely disappeared from the forecast.
A little Bahamian wedding magic
Whether the sudden change in weather came down to meteorology, luck, or Emma’s Etsy witch is probably beside the point – Emma and Harrison got their sunshine.
Beautiful weather lasted throughout the outdoor celebration, allowing the turquoise water, greenery, and island landscape that had inspired their entire wedding to shine exactly as they had imagined. “Whether it was coincidence or a little bit of island magic, I’ll always believe my Etsy witch came through!” Emma shared.
And really, after planning every other detail of the wedding so intentionally, who could blame her for taking out a little supernatural wedding insurance?
Coastal sophistication, the Bahamian way
Ultimately, one of Emma and Harrison’s most successful design decisions was knowing when to let the Bahamas speak for itself. They didn’t try to transform their destination – they responded to it.
Turquoise water inspired the color story. Local greenery became part of the design. Wicker, shells, candles, and natural textures introduced coastal character, while relaxed fashion maintained the sense of effortless sophistication they envisioned.
It was chic without becoming formal, tropical without becoming thematic, and refined without losing the ease that makes an island celebration so appealing.
And with clear skies overhead despite a questionable forecast, there may have been just a tiny bit of magic involved, too.
