A Forest-inspired Wedding Bathed In Sunlight At Anthony Chapel In Arkansas

Share

When Jessica and Michael first crossed paths while working at a local grocery store during their junior year of high school, neither had the confidence to make the first move. Instead, a mutual friend stepped in to exchange their phone numbers, setting the stage for a relationship that would eventually lead to a destination wedding surrounded by nature, family, and the people they love most.

Their engagement story began during a winter adventure through Utah’s National Parks. Hoping to take advantage of the cooler offseason weather, Michael planned a trip filled with hiking, sightseeing, and exploration. While visiting Zion National Park, the couple hiked to the Upper Emerald Pools, where Michael proposed beside a waterfall tucked into one of the park’s most breathtaking landscapes.

When it came time to choose a wedding venue, Jessica and Michael unexpectedly discovered their dream location while scrolling through Instagram. Anthony Chapel at Garvan Woodland Gardens immediately captured both of their attention. “It was the first place that truly caught both of our eyes,” Jessica says. “We did some research and planned a trip to visit a week later. We knew as soon as we walked up to the chapel that we had found our spot.”

Nestled among towering trees with soaring glass walls that seamlessly bring the outdoors inside, Anthony Chapel and planner Kaitie Gill created the perfect backdrop for a wedding captured by Melly M. Jones Photography that felt warm, inviting, and deeply connected to nature.

Wedding design inspired by nature

The couple’s vision centered on creating a celebration that felt organic, comfortable, and welcoming. Their wedding color palette embraced soft earth tones with prominent greens and warm browns, resulting in the dreamy, cozy atmosphere Jessica had envisioned. Every design decision was rooted in the surrounding landscape, allowing the natural beauty of the Arkansas setting to remain the focal point throughout the day.

Architectural ceremony design at Anthony Chapel

Anthony Chapel‘s iconic architecture provided a ceremony setting unlike any other. With soaring glass walls framing the surrounding forest, the chapel blurred the line between indoors and out, immersing guests in the beauty of Garvan Woodland Gardens. The natural surroundings became an extension of the ceremony design itself, requiring very little enhancement beyond the breathtaking scenery already present.

Making the ceremony even more meaningful, Michael’s father officiated the couple’s exchange of vows. His presence added a deeply personal layer to the ceremony and created one of the day’s most memorable moments.

Cocktail hour games & entertainment

One of the most unique elements of the reception was the addition of tabletop games during cocktail hour and throughout the evening. The games encouraged guests who had only recently met to interact, laugh together, and quickly form new friendships. What began as a simple idea became one of the most successful guest-experience elements of the celebration. “We loved seeing friends come together to act silly with people they barely knew,” Jessica shared.

Wedding flowers inspired by everyday life

The couple’s love for nature extended into every aspect of the floral design by Magnolia Belle Floral. Rather than selecting elaborate or overly traditional arrangements, Jessica and Michael wanted wedding flowers that reflected their everyday lives as passionate houseplant collectors and caretakers. Lush greenery became the defining element throughout the celebration, complemented by soft neutral blooms and warm organic textures.

One especially meaningful floral detail was the inclusion of lily of the valley in honor of Jessica’s grandmother, who passed away seven years ago. The thoughtful tribute added an emotional layer to the floral design while beautifully connecting the celebration to family memories.

A reception centered on connection

Following the ceremony, guests gathered at Chittum Venue at Forest Lakes for a reception designed around celebration, comfort, and community.

Because many guests had traveled from out of state and had never met before the wedding weekend, Jessica and Michael intentionally planned opportunities for everyone to connect and enjoy one another’s company. “We wanted celebration, comfort, and camaraderie to be the focal point of our event so we could spend the entirety of our wedding day with the people we love the most,” Jessica explains. “We were hoping for a room filled with chatter and laughter, and we were not disappointed.”

Organic tablescape details & natural reception design

The reception reflected the same natural elegance that defined the ceremony. Organic greenery, warm textures, and thoughtfully layered design elements created an environment that felt inviting and relaxed while maintaining an elevated aesthetic. The overall design prioritized guest experience and meaningful interaction, allowing the celebration to feel both beautiful and comfortable.

Southern comfort food done right

Food was another area where Jessica and Michael prioritized guest experience over tradition. During conversations with Vibrant Occasions Catering, they realized they cared less about serving an extravagant meal and more about offering something memorable, comforting, and satisfying for the loved ones who had traveled so far to celebrate with them.

The final menu featured Southern comfort food favorites, including barbecue chicken breast, brisket, vegetables, mashed potatoes, and macaroni. The decision proved to be a guest favorite, with many attendees returning for second and even third servings throughout the evening. “At the end of the day, we decided you don’t have to have a fancy meal just because you’re having a wedding,” Jessica says. “A simple, filling meal goes a lot further.”

Detail we love: interactive dessert stations

The couple embraced elegance through simplicity when designing their wedding cake from Taste of Eden. The three-tier ivory wedding cake featured delicate eucalyptus accents and offered three flavors: strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate. The variety allowed guests to sample multiple options while maintaining a timeless and understated design.

In addition to the cake, guests enjoyed interactive banana foster and s’mores stations, adding a playful and memorable element to the dessert experience before they danced the night away with Crown Entertainment.

Honeymoon in St. Lucia

Following the wedding, the newlyweds traveled to St. Lucia for a honeymoon filled with relaxation, exploration, and adventure. They spent their time enjoying the beach, discovering the island’s natural beauty, and sampling plenty of delicious local cuisine—an idyllic way to begin their next chapter together.

Advice from the couple

For couples currently planning their own wedding, Jessica offers one practical piece of advice: “Booking your wedding further, for example, 2 years instead of within 1 year of getting engaged, allows more time to set aside money so you don’t have to cut back on anything. You only get married once, so you want to give yourself enough time to pay for the wedding you want to have.”

A wedding rooted in nature and community

From a waterfall proposal in Zion National Park to a forest ceremony at Anthony Chapel and a reception filled with laughter at Chittum Venue at Forest Lakes, every aspect of Jessica and Michael’s wedding reflected what mattered most to them. Their celebration focused on connection, comfort, family, and the beauty of bringing people together. The result was a wedding that felt deeply personal, effortlessly welcoming, and entirely unforgettable.
