We are always curious to see what happens when a wedding planner ties the knot. And this one in particular. Why? Well, this lovely lady, Katie of Rowyn Events, also happened to plan Akilah & Andrew’s wedding (the new owners of Wedding Chicks). So, when she shared the album with us, we literally almost broke a nail with how fast we opened that gallery link. And babes, it did not disappoint! But, instead of the lavish floral wonderland that we were expecting, we were surprised (and pleasantly so) to find that Katie and Marquis opted for a more intimate and laid-back affair in their favorite city, NYC. From the iconic ceremony backdrop and renting out one of Brooklyn’s best restaurants to the afterparty, you won’t want to miss a single detail from this day. Lucky for us, Paul Von Rieter was there to capture every last moment—yes, even on the subway!

The Vibe: An NYC Love Story

With the fall leaves and the Brooklyn Bridge as their backdrop, the intimate waterfront ceremony was like something straight out of a movie. After the ceremony, the couple treated guests to a meal at one of their favorite restaurants, Celestine. They rented the entire space so they could really make it their own. They even customized the menu, just for the occasion!

Getting Ready

In the filtered light of their hotel suites, Katie and Marquis prepped for the day ahead. Unrushed and full of joy, the two were really able to live in the moment with their loved ones. They took a moment, before the ceremony, to write their vows into a keepsake book, filled with photos from their love story. Can we just say we’re OBSESSED with this idea!

The Fashion

Understated and elegant, like NYC herself, the bride chose a minimalist slip dress and a sheer silk chiffon overlay. For hair and makeup, she went with a natural glam look and wore her hair down. With a chill in the air, she also accessorized with a tan coat that flowed beautifully with the city vibes. The groom looked equally chic in a black three-piece suit.

The Stationery

From their custom wedding newspaper, delivered to guests the morning of, to the bar sign and menu, the couple trusted Velvet Fox Designs to come up with playful pieces that fit the vibe. We especially love the menu that unfolded course-by-course!

The Dinner

The couple and their guests enjoyed appetizers like hummus, baba gaonush, and salad. Then, for the main course, beef filet and roasted chicken were the stars of the meal. For dessert? A delectable lemon cake with mascarpone whipped cream—YUM!

The After Party

But the festivities didn’t stop after dinner. No! The couple and their guests hopped on the subway back to the Freehand Hotel, where they donned their matching sweat-sets and kept the party going all night long! (Consider this our petition to have sweat-sets be the new bridesmaid pajamas…K, thanks!) It was the perfect end to the perfect day, full of magical moments with their favorite people in the city where they forged their love story.
