You Need These Items In Your Wedding Emergency Kit

After months (or even years!) of planning, your wedding day has finally arrived. And while you’ve dotted every “i” and crossed every “t,” the truth is, little hiccups can still pop up. That’s where a wedding emergency kit comes in. It’s your behind-the-scenes lifesaver, filled with all the just-in-case items to keep things running smoothly.

It’s a simple way to stay calm and keep any last-minute surprises from stealing your spotlight. So let’s dive into the must-have items that belong in every wedding day emergency kit!

Cold Packs

Weddings can be a whirlwind of activity. Cold packs are a quick fix for overheating, unexpected swelling, or even calming nerves. They’re also handy if someone takes a minor tumble or needs a bit of cool-down time before the photos start.

Nicole Chan, Photographer at Nicole Chan Photo & Video, shares, “Instant cold packs are must-haves because of the advantages when used immediately. They’re useful for sprains and injuries, insect bites, heat exhaustion, etc.”

Tuck a couple of disposable cold packs into your emergency kit just in case. They activate with a quick squeeze and don’t take up much room.

Blotting Papers

Between happy tears, hugs, and dancing, keeping your makeup fresh can feel like a full-time job. Blotting papers are a lifesaver for controlling shine without ruining your look.

“Blotting papers keep shine under control for photos without layering on more makeup,” confirms Jaclyn Watson, Owner of Jaclyn Watson Events.

Keep a pack in your kit and stash a few in someone’s clutch. A quick blot can have you looking photo-ready in seconds, no full glam team needed!

Stain Remover

Let’s be real: champagne spills, makeup smudges, and dirt on hems happen. It’s almost a rite of passage on the big day. But you don’t need to panic when they do, as long as you’ve packed a good stain remover pen or wipes.

Michelle E. Oley, Owner of Michelle Elaine Weddings, recommends, “Stain remover—like a Tide pen or Shout wipes. It’s also important to have something like white chalk to help soak up stains, specifically on a wedding dress—yes, it really works! Always test off the garment first, and start small—you don’t want to turn a tiny stain into a bigger issue. For example, Tide pens work wonders, but if you press out too much product, things can get messy fast.”

These are small and incredibly effective on the go. From coffee splashes to lipstick transfers, you’ll be able to treat it fast and move on without missing a beat.

Zip Ties

They may not sound glamorous, but zip ties are like the duct tape of weddings. They’re perfect for quick fixes when something breaks or needs extra support.

“Zip ties are, without a doubt, the most-used item in my wedding day supplies,” reveals Elena Markwood, Owner and Lead Planner at Adoration Weddings & Events. “There are SO many applications for them because they are an easy, secure, non-damaging way to attach or hang many different types of decor items. You can use them to hang florals on a ceremony arch, to secure a linen on an outdoor table, to hang signage on a greenery wall, to attach greenery or florals to signage, and the list goes on!”

You don’t need a whole toolbox. Just a few zip ties in your kit can solve a surprising number of problems.

A Sewing Kit

Snags, rips, loose buttons—there’s always a chance that something will need a quick stitch. A basic sewing kit with a needle, thread (especially in white, black, and the wedding party colors), and safety pins is all you need.

Natalia Zuk, Co-Owner of Lilac Studios, adds, “A small sewing kit is also a lifesaver if a button pops off a jacket or dress, or a strap comes loose.”

You don’t have to be a sewing expert to patch something small in a pinch. Even if you don’t end up using it, it’s one of those things you’ll feel better having nearby.

Chargers

Between snapping pics and coordinating logistics, phone batteries can drain fast on the big day. That’s where a couple of portable chargers or backup cables can make all the difference.

“Devices need power, but brides and grooms don’t need to be overpowered with charging cords, pads, bricks, or plugs,” explains McKenzi Taylor, Founder/Owner of Cactus Collective Weddings. “Make sure your emergency kit is stocked with whichever phone charger or battery pack you might need for your gadgets, and then hand the whole rat’s nest over to someone who can be trusted to whip them out for you when you are running low on juice.”

Just be sure to charge all devices the night before the big day. No one wants to hit 1% right before the first dance or during a photo op!

Snacks

You’d be surprised how easy it is to forget to eat on your wedding day. With so much going on, snacks might not be top of mind (until that mid-afternoon crash hits hard).

Jordan Xu, Founder, Principal Planner & Designer at Emily Jordan Events, suggests, “Pack your favorite non-messy snack in your emergency kit. Sometimes nerves or time get the best of you, and it is hard to eat full meals on your wedding day. It is great to have a comfort snack on hand to avoid you getting hangry. Make sure it is something that doesn’t melt or leave a lot of crumbs, as you don’t want to ruin your wedding day attire once you are dressed.”

Not only will it keep you fueled and focused, but it can also save a bridesmaid or groomsman from going hangry during the ceremony.

Eye Drops

Tears are part of the day, whether from emotion, allergies, or the wind blowing right into your face. Eye drops can help keep your eyes bright and comfortable through it all.

“After a night of little sleep or a few happy tears while getting ready, it’s common for couples to end up with red, irritated eyes,” warns Kawania Wooten, Principal Consultant at Howerton+Wooten Events. “But, they rarely have anything on hand to soothe or refresh them. So, we recommend keeping a small vial of eye drops or saline solution in their emergency kit.”

They’re especially useful if you wear contacts or are prone to dryness. One quick drop can refresh your look and keep you feeling your best.

Veil Weights

A breeze may feel dreamy in photos, but it’s not so great when your veil takes on a life of its own. Veil weights are a simple and subtle fix to keep your veil from flying around or getting tangled.

Meghan Lynch, Photographer at Meghan Lynch Photography, notes, “Veil weights are the perfect solution for windy wedding days (especially for those coastal weddings). During your ceremony, you’ll avoid your veil flying off completely or feeling the uncomfortable pull of your veil while trying to listen to your partner’s vows. The best part is that they can easily come off for any wedding portraits.”

You can attach them discreetly at the bottom or sides, and they won’t show in pictures. It’s a tiny touch that can save you a lot of fuss during your walk down the aisle.

Ginger Candies

Ginger candies are a natural way to soothe queasiness and keep your stomach settled. They’re also great to have on hand if you or anyone in your party tends to get travel sick between venues.

“It’s amazing how many ginger candies I give away while the wedding party is getting ready,” admits Mary Angelini, Founder of Key Moment Films. “I find it most popular with the wedding party, who may have overindulged at the open bar at the rehearsal dinner. Ginger is great for upset tummies and hangover side effects.”

Pop a few in your bag or emergency kit, and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing you’ve got a tummy-friendly backup plan.

Hair Accessories

Hairpins fall out. Elastics snap. Curls drop faster than expected. Having a stash of hair accessories can help you touch up quickly and keep your hair looking flawless.

Kristen Gosselin, Founder & Creative Director at KG Events & Design, advises, “A beautiful hair clip, tie, or pin to hold your hair out of your face as the party heats up is clutch. After having your hair done, the last thing you want is to pin it back with a normal black hair tie or ugly hair clip. Come readily available with ones that match your bridal look!”

Even if you have a stylist on hand earlier in the day, you’ll want tools to freshen up later!

Scissors

It might seem like an odd addition, but a small pair of scissors is a must-have for your wedding day. You never know when you might need to snip off a pesky clothing tag or open a stubborn package.

“Scissors, from cutting off hanger straps to loose strings to cutting ribbon for flat lays, are used all throughout the day,” highlights Alex Bovee, Owner & Lead Planner at Vision in White Events.

Opt for a travel-sized pair that won’t take up too much space in your kit but is sharp enough to get the job done. This little tool can handle way more than you\’d expect and is one of those things you’ll be so glad you packed.

Put Someone In Charge

You’ve assembled the kit! Now, make sure someone’s in charge of it. Choose a trusted friend, family member, or coordinator to keep the kit close and handle any quick fixes that come up.

Ashley Douglass, Owner & Lead Planner at Ashley Douglass Events, says, “A professional wedding planner is always three steps ahead on the day of a wedding. You do not want to be in this headspace on your own wedding! Hire someone to help you and get them up to speed in the few weeks before your wedding if you cannot hire a pro!”

The goal is for you to stay focused on the joy of the day, not the logistics. Handing this off means you can breathe easy knowing someone’s got your back if anything goes sideways.

Use What You Have At Home

Good news: you don’t have to buy everything new for your emergency kit. A lot of helpful items (think safety pins, snacks, tissues, and even hair products) are probably already in your bathroom drawer or kitchen cabinet.

“You don’t need to buy a fancy pre-made emergency kit online,” reminds Emily Reno, Owner of Elopement Las Vegas. “Most of what you’ll need is probably already at home. And if not, a quick trip to the dollar store will cover the rest.”

Start with what you have, then fill in the gaps with a few specific essentials. Your wedding budget will thank you, and you’ll still be covered from head to toe.

Remember: Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff

Things might not go 100% according to plan, and that’s okay. An emergency kit is there to help you roll with the unexpected, not eliminate every tiny imperfection.

Casey Cannon, Owner of EBJ & Company, emphasizes, “Don’t sweat the small stuff. Unfortunately, no day is perfect, and mistakes still happen on your wedding day. Let the little things go and remember what is most important: you’re married!”

The most important thing is the love you’re celebrating. If something small goes wrong, take a deep breath and remember what really matters. The best stories often come from the unplanned moments anyway!
