Luxury coastal wedding in Maui with a must-see something blue

Share

Hawaiian wedding traditions

Christine and Bryan chose to celebrate their marriage at Sugar Beach Events, an oceanfront venue located in Kihei, Maui. The bride and groom wanted to create a modern, minimalist, and romantic atmosphere to enjoy their wedding day with their guests while appreciating the natural beauty of Maui. Surrounded by 100 of their closest family members and friends, Christine and Bryan tied the knot along the crystal-clear coastline of Sugar Beach. Their incredible photographer, Matias Ezcurra, and videographer, Stephan Boeker, captured every detail of the day, showcasing the love and joy for the newlyweds. Featuring lush white florals and elegant calligraphed signage, a touch of ‘something blue’ brought the perfect pop of color to the day.

Bridesmaids can be your “something blue”

On the wedding day, Christine wore a beautiful strapless wedding gown by Maggie Sottero, featuring textured florals and delicate lace elements. Our bride wanted her bridesmaids to compliment the theme of ‘something blue’ while giving them freedom to each choose a different dress style that they felt most comfortable in! Their beautiful dusty blue dresses were from Azazie.

Ways to honor tradition in your ceremony

Christine and Bryan were married by Hawaiian officiant, Pia Aluli, in a traditional Hawaiian ceremony including an Oli Aloha (a Hawaiian greeting chant), lei exchange, and conch shell blowing. Paying homage to their Filipino heritage, the bride and groom tied in traditions including the 13 coins (arras) symbolizing their dedication and commitment to contribute to the relationship; a Unity Candle, symbolizing the unison and blend of their love, traditions, and experiences; a Veil placed over their shoulders to unite two families as one; and a Cord, draped over their shoulders in the form of a figure eight to symbolize the newlyweds’ infinite bond of marriage.

A tropical twist on white florals with greenery

Christine & Bryan wanted to feature predominantly white florals with tropical greenery elements, keeping it elegant, simple, and clean. After incorporating orchids into their proposal, Christine and Bryan also wanted them to be represented in their wedding day floral arrangements. Entrusting the creative work to Maui florist Bella Bloom, their judgment and skill created an amazing space to dance the night away! Bella Bloom created soft white florals including a full rounded floral arch, gorgeous aisleway arrangements, and tropical overhead installations – bringing the outdoors to the indoors. Miss B Calligraphy created elegant signage and place setting details with modern details, clean lines, and unique textures that accentuated the dreamy florals.

There’s something special about live music

Live music was important to both Bryan and Christine, so musician Marvin Tevaga played throughout their ceremony and cocktail hour. Christine and Bryan loved being able to walk down the aisle as Marvin sang their favorite songs, including “Back at One” by Brian McKnight, “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley, and “Latch” by Sam Smith.

Get creative with cocktail names

With a spin-off of the couple’s names and their favorite cocktails, the newlyweds selected two specialty cocktails for guests to enjoy during cocktail hour including the BryTai – Bryan’s take on a Mai Tai featuring Hennessy VS, fresh lime, pineapple juice, and orgeat syrup, and the Stina Colada – Christine’s take on a Pina Colada featuring rum, coconut milk, and passion fruit! For dinner, Cafe O’Lei created a menu featuring local favorites including a kula greens salad, macadamia crusted mahi mahi with Moloka’i sweet potatoes, braised short ribs, and blackened tofu steak with island papaya salsa. Rather than a typical wedding cake, Christine and Bryan chose to feature a malasada station (a local Hawaii favorite resembling a donut covered in sugar) with various dipping sauces courtesy of Cafe O’Lei, which their guests loved!

A tip from the newlyweds

“The day will fly by so fast! Be sure to soak in each part of the day, and try not to feel a sense of urgency to move to the next item in the schedule. Try to find small windows of time with your partner to enjoy each other’s company and check in with each other. The day will be socially heavy, with lots of mingling and entertaining your guests, but be sure to also take care of each other.”
