When planning their wedding Brian and Amanda’s goal was to throw the best party for their family and friends and to have everyone on the dance floor all night. They kicked off the night with a slow dance followed by a surprise rap song performed by the couple to get the party started! Not only did they achieve their goal but they also found a way to represent both of their cultures with a mariachi band during cocktail hour and a Chinese blessing on the welcome table. Be sure to read to the end to find out the couples best wedding planning advice!

Their Love Story

Brian first laid eyes on Amanda when he was in his first week of medical school orientation at Columbia. The doors opened while waiting for the elevator, and he was instantly smitten seeing his new classmate Amanda. With so many similar interests and hobbies, their friendship came easy, and not many months later, they found themselves on their very first date just nights before their cardiology exam. Years later, Brian planned a fun weekend while Amanda’s parents were visiting and popped the question to start things off with a celebration.

The main goal for their wedding was to throw an awesome party with all of their family and friends on the dance floor all night. They incorporated elements from both of their cultures, with a mariachi band for cocktail hour and the double luck Chinese blessing for a happy marriage on the welcome table. The pair surprised guests and broke out into a rap song (Hey Ma) after their more traditional slow first dance to get the party started.

Wedding Planning Advice From The Couple

“Have fun with it, try not to take every little detail too seriously (although this can definitely get tricky, especially the closer you are to the wedding), and try not to lose sight of what the day is really about – you and your future lifelong partner!”
