You & Me in Our Own Private Cuba

From the Bride: Being Cuban and living in Miami, I wanted a wedding to show the beauties of Cuba but with a twist if it didn’t stay in the 50s. So the theme is Modern Day Cuba. With lots of tropical greenery with pop of color, unique flares of glamour and of course fun Cuban drinks like “Mojitos” and “Cuba Libre” which were served in a vintage trailer bar. We had a lounge area with a cigar roller, rolling freshly made cigar for our guest, while the Groom and I had a private ceremony by a waterfall to read each others our vows.

For my dress I chose a high waisted sequin skirt in pink champagne and an off-white crop top designed by Jillian Fellers and handmade in Lincoln, Nebraska. I thought it was beautiful and a little daring and unlike anything I’ve seen before. I wanted something modern and in line with our vision for the day, and something that would still stand out years later when we look back at our pictures.

Planning The Details

A reception dinner followed under a big a beautiful royal poinciana tree. After our guests went home with cuban coffee favors and fedora hats. We privately danced as the sun set and walked the path as a new married couple.

Living in Florida, it was most important to have a great makeup artist and great makeup and a hairstyle that could withstand the heat and humidity. Also, I think having comfortable shoes to change into during down time is a good idea. I used a pair of flats to walk around and changed into my bridal shoes for our pictures. Most important advice is don’t forget to enjoy the day with close friends and family. You will only get to enjoy this day once. Oh! and take lots of pictures.

Budgeting a budget

Our initial budget was $10k. We did go over despite our efforts. Click to find out more!

For us, it was important to choose quality over quantity, and I definitely wanted to ensure I was comfortable with what I wore on the day so we spent a little more than anticipated on our wardrobe, accessories, hair and makeup. The venue, cake, and food took the bigger part of our budget as expected. Finally, it was important we hire the right photographer and planner, we were only going to do this once so we chose carefully and in my opinion, it was money well spent.
