From the bride:“We live in California, and one of my favorite things out here is the colorful, playfulness you get at the beaches: the bright flowers, the surfboards, the red white and blue diners at the end of the piers, the bright colored swimsuits and ice cream shops…it’s everywhere you look! It fits our personalities, so when we got engaged, we decided to take our photos at the Balboa Fun Zone in Newport Beach complete with lollipops, brightly colored carousels, a ferris wheel ride, hats and cotton candy. We loved every second of it! That day really inspired the theme for our wedding. We wanted it to be bright, whimsical, and have that almost-giddy feeling you got as a kid when you went to a carnival for a day. With the help of our amazing wedding planner, Emily Humphries of Simply Yours Weddings, we ended up with lots of color and fun ideas. There were colorful pinwheels which we put in vintage blue mason jars for the table centerpieces. We had a vintage popcorn machine with old-school red-striped popcorn bags as appetizers during cocktail hour. I chose coral for my bridesmaids and let them pick a dress in any shade they chose, which turned out amazing! Their bouquets and the groomsmen’s boutonnieres had mini-pinwheels tucked in for an added touch of fun. Instead of cake, we had a root beer float and ice cream bar, with red and white striped straws. Instead of “cake-cutting” we toasted with our root beer floats. We even did a mini-birthday celebration for my mom and cousin (who both had birthdays that day!) with pink-frosted cupcakes and sparkling candles! The guestbook was a tandem bicycle print, where our guests used their thumbprints to create a large group of colorful balloons and signed their names on their balloon. And of course, no carnival would be complete without a (homemade) photo booth with lots of mustaches! There was nowhere you could turn without laughing or smiling at the details. I’m pretty sure everyone (us included) left with at least a hint of giddyness!”
