This Boyfriend ‘Proposed’ for a Month Without Her Ever Having a Clue

Share

It’s a #FridayFeels kind of day over here, so we figured it’d be a great time to share this adorable proposal story that’s been making its rounds for the last few days. It’s one of those viral proposals that makes anyone who has ever popped the question wonder wtf they were doing when they thought of their own ring slinging strategy – but hey, everyyyy proposal is a momentous and special one, this one just earns more points in the ‘degree of epicness’ category.

So, here’s what happened, thanks to this gutsy groom-to-be posting all about it on Facebook…

When Edi Okoro, 30, from Hertfordshire, England, finally mustered up all the courage and confidence to propose to his girlfriend, Cally Read, 28, of 10 years, he knew he wanted the ask to be ‘a story in its own right.’ As do most men and women planning on proposing. What separates Edi from the rest; however, is his complete aversion to planning or orchestrating anything in advance. Flying by the seat of his pants is kind of Edi’s mojo, but in this particular set of circumstances, spontaneity served him real well.

He bought the engagement ring and carried it around with him everywhere, hoping that a choice ‘moment’ would present itself at which time he’d whip it out and get to the all-important asking. But apparently after a month of waiting for this elusive ‘right’ moment, he was inspired to switch gears and make the proposal into somewhat of a game.

As he shared on Facebook – “I was sitting on the sofa admiring “my precious” (yes I became very attached to this ring by this point) Cally almost caught me staring at the ring, and it hit me!….All these missed opportunities mixed in with the thought – Cally doesn’t know I have the ring!! I should just start documenting these moments!”

And he did…

In 20 or so of the cutest, most daring photos featuring his un-phased future fiancée and her soon-to-be blinding bling. A couple of them were even borderline selfies, with an excited Edi holding the ring box open, smiling ear to ear as his girl assumed a preoccupied position in the background.

You can see in the pictures, too, that Edi’s bravery was emboldened as more and more time went on – “The idea was to take as many photos, in more daring scenarios, until I found the perfect moment to propose, or until I got caught, at which point I would propose!”

From sitting on the couch, playing with the ring while Cally tinkered in the kitchen, to placing the ring IN her jewelry dish for two days (umm… I probably would have noticed a never-there-before diamond shining atop my everyday baubles, but that’s just me…), laying the ring box on top of a comforter-covered Cally as she rested, texted, or stalked Insta in bed, to actually putting it in her palm while she slept, mouth open and all. The 💍 was there for over a month, Cally just didn’t have a clue.

Awwwwww.

The two are now happily engaged, and Cally has since gotten a peek at the month-long fun her fiancé had with her ring, but we actually don’t even know what once-in-a-lifetime moment precipitated the proposal.

We’ll just have to wait to find out. Come onnnnn Edi, fill us chicks in!!
