This Is What a Destination Wedding in Iceland Looks Like

Iceland destination wedding

These two Dallas love birds met on a dating app and had the silliest first date. Elisa, the bride, spilled water all over the table. Immediately, Ab saw how down to earth she was, and Elisa was smitten just the same. Ab proposed in New Orleans, and the two began wedding planning. Ab is from India, so to honor his roots, and the two had a large one day Bengali Hindu wedding ceremony on a rainy day in Houston, Texas.

Although the intimate Hindu wedding in Texas was lovely, Elisa and Ab still wanted a smaller intimate ceremony with their immediate family and close friends. They also wanted a unique destination, so they picked Iceland, and found a unique spot a few hours from Reykjavik for their destination wedding. Keep scrolling and read all about their magical day far, far away from Texas, all captured by
Kelly Costello Photography.

Elisa and Ab discovered the
Hotel Budir. Set in one of the most beautiful places in Iceland, just a couple of hours drive from Reykjavik. They rented out for the entire day and night. This remote hotel is surrounded by dormant volcanos, the ocean, and mountains with waterfalls rushing down the side.

All their rooms have a great view of the glacier, the sea, the mountains, the extensive lava field, or the black church. The black church is where Elisa and Ab had their wedding ceremony. This place looks fantastic and is on my list of must-sees.

Iceland In October

Elisa and Ab got married in Iceland in October.  October is a good month to visit Iceland if you want to experience the quieter side of the country. As it’s the beginning of winter and night skies are dark, you could see the aurora borealis on a northern lights tour. Yes, please!

I am Elisa and Ab were able to see some amazing sights while in Iceland with their friends. Such a great idea, don’t you think? Below is one of the places I’d love to see. You can
visit Iceland’s official Instagram here to take it all in.

The Black Church

There’s a tiny village, Hotel Budir and the tiny black church that was built in 1703 and deconstructed because of lack of visitors. In 1987 it was rebuilt and has become an elusive place for couples to get married. Although the church does not have an official Instagram account, it does have it’s own hashtag,
#blackchurchiceland. You can also
explore location search in Instagram to find it. Below is a photo taken during the Aurora. I’d love to see that.
