Share

Newlyweds holding hands in front of a barn at a wedding

Planning a summer wedding? You’ve come to the right place. Megan and Craigs outdoor wedding at one of Maines newest venues, Beech Hill Barn, turned out flawless but was a true labor of love to pull it all together. With lots of DIY details throughout, they hosted the summer wedding they always wanted in shades of light blue, white and a touch of pink.

From the mix and match bridesmaid dresses in blue to the wood-fired pizza truck, there are SO many good ideas here you’ll definitely want to pin your favorites for later. Read more from the bride + see their wedding film below, and check out the full gallery after captured by Lindsay Hackney.

Getting married in Maine

From the bride: Almost as soon as we got engaged, Craig and I knew that we wanted to host a summer outdoor wedding. And although we live in Boston, neither of us had ever really traveled further north than Massachusetts before we started looking at wedding venues, but there was something about the photos of Maine’s idyllic countryside setting, the not-too-hot summer climate and the beautiful views that drew us to narrow our venue search down to Maine very quickly. We found the amazing Beech Hill Barn before the venue was even complete, but it was stunning even while under construction.

it’s all in the DIY details

It was a labor of love to bring my vision of a fun, classy casual day to life, and it truly became a family effort. Craig’s sister Sara is an artist who took my chicken scratch drawings of a timeline of our relationship and turned them into the most beautiful watercolor paintings. She also painted a mini version of Beech Hill barn for the detail card of our invitation suite. My father crafted and stained all of our custom wood signs and even built a custom donut wall. I learned calligraphy for the envelopes of our save the dates and invitations, and both designed and put together many of our stationary details, such as our invitations, custom drink stirrers that doubled as place cards for our welcome bar, our programs, mini pendant labels for each dessert and all signage.

Beautiful florals

For flowers, we chose a green, white and gold color scheme in homage to the Irish flag and all of my relatives who couldn’t attend in person. The amazing Betsy Rawley of Miller Gardens, whose parents were dear friends of Craig’s grandparents, executed my floral vision off of just two photos I pulled from the internet. In all, we had the most amazing day we could have hoped for!

Wood-fired pizzas

We booked Fire & Company catering, who cooks wood-fired pizzas on-site in a 1950s fire-engine-red vintage truck and even brings along a bar truck to serve local Maine-brewed beers. My family is from Philadelphia, so I asked Fire & Co. if they could put mini cheesesteaks on the menu for cocktail hour, and Ryan and the team delivered flawlessly.
