Ashley & CR’s family ranch wedding in Maui was a mix of history, tradition, and love! The brides 100-year old family ranch was the gorgeous location for their heartfelt nuptials and tented reception which featured rustic chic decor of natural antler sheds, wood tables and greenery throughout.

The history of the ranch only adds to their story, so be sure to read more about this gorgeous day below from both the bride and her style gurus from Couture Events. Plus, find a full gallery with more must-see images captured by the talented folks at Hearts + Horseshoes Photography

Tradition and love

From Couture Events: There was so much tradition and love incorporated into Ashley and CR’s wedding—from the venue, which was a very special piece of land that the bride’s family had passed down from generation to generation, to the local florals and greenery foraged from their family’s land by the bridal party to the harvesting of antler sheds throughout the year, and the original gates from the ranch used to create an entrance for the seating chart display. The history, tradition, community effort, and strong family ties all created this special sense of unity and love for Ashley and CR’s wedding.

Historic family ranch

From the bride: When CR proposed, June 12, 2016, we decided that we were going to get married in Hawaii where I grew up and where my family has lived for seven generations. My family originally moved to Hawaii in 1841 as missionaries, traveling from Boston by ship (a journey that took about nine months). In 1916 my great-great-grandfather, H.W. Rice, bought Kaonoulu Ranch in Kula, Maui where my family continues to raise cattle today.

100-years on the ranch

In August 2016, my family celebrated the 100-year anniversary of the ranch purchase and threw a huge party in the “Medicine Pasture”. The Medicine Pasture got its name from the old corrals that used to be there. The ranch cowboys, including my great-grandfather and my grandfather, used to doctor sick cattle in those corrals. During the last couple years, the old corrals have gotten remodeled into an arena used by the family for team roping and other horseback riding activities. It is one of the most beautiful locations on the ranch, from the pasture you have views of the West Maui Mountains along with the islands of Kaho’olawe and Lanai.

Choosing the perfect location

It was during the 100-year celebration that CR and I decided that is where we wanted to get married, not only because of the beautiful views but because of my family’s history there. Since CR and I love to rope, it was only appropriate that there was a team roping arena in the background of our wedding ceremony.
