Rustic Chic Rainy Day Wedding in Canada With A Scottish Twist

Share

rainy day wedding portraits

Alanis Morissette may think rain on your wedding day is ironic, but we think it is absolutely beautiful! With a little preparation and the right mindset you can have the best day ever even in a complete down pour. Mirey and Patrick’s rustic chic rainy day wedding in Canada is sure to put you in a good summer time mood. From the clear joy on everyone’s faces to the mouth watering food and backyard style fun we certainly wish we could have joined this happy day.

So instead we are living vicariously through all the lovely photos that were taken by Corrina Walker Photography. You can see every last detail from this heartwarming wedding day when you visit the full gallery here

From the Bride: When trying to decide when to have the wedding, we had no doubts: July, the warmest and driest month of the year in Calgary. Our Australian friends and others coming from afar would have a chance to enjoy the mountains and the beautiful setting of the wedding. But of course this July happened to be the wettest July in Calgary since like 1927! We had family members getting trapped in floods and hail storms all across the city just a couple of days before the wedding with a severe thunderstorm the night before. How exciting! This could be a bride’s worst nightmare OR an excuse to wear matching socks and wellies with her bridesmaid! (I love matching..)

We had the most beautiful weather we could have hoped for. A strong sprinkle during the ceremony and warm sunshine for the rest of the day. One of my favorite parts was when it started raining just in time for our vows and the commissioner said “a wet knot is harder to undo!”

From Shannon Valente Weddings: Mirey and Patrick’s wedding took place at Heartland (Dude Ranch) where they film the tv drama series, the first and only wedding to happen at this location. The property is near and dear to the couple as it is owned by the groom’s family and it was absolutely PERFECT!

When I first met with Mirey and Patrick they told me they were closet hippies who liked good wine, I knew we would get along great! They really just wanted a fun, relaxed day they could enjoy with family and friends, and that is exactly what they got. Live music was important to them. They wanted a backyard bbq kind of day filled with music, gelato and lawn games. Steel and Timber played for the ceremony and cocktails.

From the Bride: Neither one of us was ever really a “wedding” person and if we were to get married it would be just for us. But then we thought this would be a great excuse to see all our favorite people from around the world in one place! That’s how we came up with the idea of a festive wedding with the feel of a large family picnic in the park.

The only requirements were: a piñata, a banjo, Nanaimo bars and beef (for Pat!).  All biases aside, it was the most fun wedding we had ever been to. Our guests stayed to the very end catching up, everyone raved about the food and to top it off we had a special visit by a moose at the end of the evening.

From Shannon Valente Weddings: Devour Catering knocked the food out of the park with stations; a farm dinner table station with Alberta roast beef (we couldn’t bring everyone to Alberta and not serve them the beef!), a Baja Taco Stand and an Earth Feast station for the vegetarians in the group.

They topped it off with a popcorn station filled with endless flavors: black pepper and truffle oil, paprika and grana padano, chipotle lime and maple caramel corn. Whipped Desserts created a gorgeously rustic sweets table with all of the couple’s favorites: roasted coconut cream and red velvet cake, almond bark, Nanaimo bars, chocolate covered strawberries and oatmeal raisin cookies.
