Homespun Kentucky Farm Wedding with DIY Details and Charm

Share

Bride and groom embrace under a tree, a tender wedding moment

Ashley and Trey met on a blind date and one happy year later he proposed and she, obviously, said yes! They both wanted their wedding to be laid-back and homespun, so they chose to have it outside at the home where Ashley grew up in southern Kentucky. A lot of darling DIY projects combined with beautiful florals from Import Flowers, and a soft mix and match color palette created the antique feel they were looking for.

From the Bride:Because I am a starry-eyed crafter, I (along with my mom, Pinterest, and the help of friends) attempted to tackle the majority of the wedding details – from our invitations to table numbers and hand-made newspaper flowers. Trey built our wedding arch and decorated it with the help of his groomsmen. My mom hunted and collected old wooden church pews, and grew sunflowers and black-eyed susans in her garden. My sister-in-law made burlap bows for our ushers, and my mother-in-law styled my hair.

My grandfather married us just before sunset. It felt so nice to finally have the day upon us, with the crafts and little details no longer important. If I could give one piece of advice to brides it would be to keep things in careful perspective – the magic of the day truly lays in the people there surrounding you and the special person you’ve chosen to hinge your world upon.

The day of the wedding,  family and friends pulled together to string lights, arrange floral centerpieces, and help move all the furniture outside once the threat of rain had passed. As I waited in my bedroom just before the ceremony began, one of my bridesmaids surprised me with some chocolate ice cream from our ice cream truck which had yet to officially begin serving. I think it was the first thing I’d eaten that day and was the perfect indulgent start to a sweet evening.

Guests wedding favors were placed on an antique dresser, so they could easily swing by and grab a mini jar of homemade jam as the night ended- yet another fun idea to love and incorporate into your own vintage day.
