When you think of a typical Southern wedding, visions of big old churches and full A-line ball gowns come to mind. This styled shoot in Savannah challenges all of those notions by showcasing the more laid-back aspect of Southern life and the outcome is as smooth as a sweet Southern drawl. The hanging Spanish moss adds mystery and moodiness to the secluded outdoor ceremony. The fashion is kept simple with the bride in an elegant but understated lace gown and the groom in khakis with an unbuttoned white cotton shirt. The afterparty says it all with the beer bottle and baby’s breath centerpiece that looks surprisingly polished when paired with fine china, jewel-tone glasses, and modern flatware.
These days, couples are leaning away from big white weddings, so Ivory & Beau designed this shoot to show them that the South has so much more to offer. Ivory & Beau also created these lovely untamed floral arrangements that definitely have a wild side to them. Finches Sandwiches & Sundries was the perfect venue for the reception and cocktail hour, with its quirky outdoor space and blank slate interior. A DIFFERENT KIND OF SOUTHERN WEDDING
The theme of the shoot was a design-focused classy, but trashy party with organic & natural elements. This wedding theme is designed for couples in their late 20s to early 30s, looking for a unique and different approach to a wedding in the South. With a muted warm color palette of scarlet red, rich yellows, blush, and neutral ivories, we used wildflowers, roses, carnations, magnolias, leatherleaf, and ruscus in the floral arrangements. For the intimate ceremony, details include woven and wooden elements, bridesmaid flower baskets, and layered carpets to achieve a secret garden feel. Those same themes were recreated on the dinner table with a lot of loose blooms, greenery, soft linens by Nuage Designs, and dark glassware.
SHOW THEM A GOOD TIME
Finches Sandwiches & Sundries was the perfect after-dinner spot, a vintage gas station feel with bright and colorful murals, lawn games (like corn hole), and the perfect opportunity to bring in catering by Treylor Park and a popsicle stand from Savannah Square Pops. Behind the shop, the grass area is the ideal spot for an outdoor bar with lounge furniture provided by Savannah Vintage & Event Rentals and a fun photoshoot with props.
