Disco meets Degas’ ballerinas in this fun and flirty shoot in an edgy industrial venue. Light pink pampas grass and shimmering disco balls add just the right amount of flirtation to the unique concrete walls and warm wood floors. The models exude an effortlessly cool vibe in unique lace gowns with feather and tulle accents. Mid-century Modern pieces are contrasted by beautiful baroque elements like embossed pewter chargers.
Olio entrusted their intern, Kara Friedman, with designing and orchestrating this styled shoot, and we’d say, she did an amazing job! Going along with the 70s inspired theme, Lucy Blooms used both dried and live florals in these arrangements and used pampas grass to add volume and movement. The floor-to-ceiling windows of Olio Peabody allow a ton of natural light to spill in, making these photos by Natalie Colapietro Photography pretty epic! Disco is all about movement after all, so what would this shoot be without a video? Thankfully, Echo was there to capture every twirl! PUTTING THOSE SKILLS TO THE TEST
This shoot is very special because it was planned by myself, an intern at the event space Olio in Peabody, Massachusetts! The venue supervisor allowed me to plan this shoot as a culmination of my semester-long internship to show off what I learned. From the initial Pinterest inspiration board to the day of the shoot, I was able to get experience building and communicating with an amazing vendor team and working with them to create a unique and beautiful editorial shoot!
A PINK DISCO DAYDREAM
When coming up with the design/theme for this shoot, I knew I wanted to pick something that suited the venue well. With its soaring 30-50 foot ceilings, original concrete walls, and exposed beams, it was important to me that the designs I chose highlighted these distinct features. Drawing from my personal style, which takes a lot of elements from the 70s and disco fashion, I decided that a retro, disco shoot with elements reminiscent of Palm Springs would be a perfect way to combine my own tastes in a way that complemented the space very well. That meant lots of dried florals, sparkly disco balls, and flashy, retro-inspired dresses and furniture, and of course, lots and lots of pink!
A VERSATILE SPACE
Having the opportunity to put this shoot together and work with such an incredible vendor team was a dream come true for me, and I am so proud of the work I was able to do during the semester. I think this shoot showed everyone what an intern can be capable of, and showed how much flexibility there is in a venue like Olio. The space is so beautiful and so customizable–it can really complement anyone’s style and needs and make their event look effortlessly chic and beautiful!
