Matt surprised Amanda with a marriage proposal while they were on vacation, visiting her family in Brazil. “It was an amazing surprise, and he did it just right!” says Amanda. When they got back home and began looking at venues, they knew right away that a traditional wedding wasn’t for them. “We always had a laid back and intimate wedding in mind. Matt heard from a friend who had been to a destination wedding and was raving about all the fun they had, so we decided to give that some serious consideration. We visited Mexico in October 2012 and fell in love with the vibe, weather and people.”
But when they started to plan, they found lots of conflicting advice about destination weddings. “Most people who have had a destination wedding will agree that it does not come with many clear guidelines,” says Amanda. “All we heard and read was that guests needed to be notified a year in advance but our wedding was 8 months away. Some websites suggested that we save money and skip on the save the dates. Others said that sending wedding invitations so early would cause many guests to simply forget so a save the date was indeed appropriate. We were so confused by all the different advice.”

“When we finally decided to send out save the dates we were so discouraged! They all looked the same. The prevalent themes for destination wedding ideas are boarding passes, passports or palm trees. Also, it was very important to me to incorporate our engagement pictures because I was so proud of them. I really wanted something unique and festive. When I saw the Engaging Stripes in Blue – Save the Date Card on Pear Tree Greetings’ website, I knew immediately that I had found the right one! It had the look and the functionality we were looking for. We were able to add one of our favorite pictures and include all the important travel details. We received so many wonderful compliments, and we couldn’t be happier!!” We hope you have the wedding of your dreams, Amanda. And don’t forget your flip flops.
