Handmade Vintage Carnival Wedding

There are so many noteworthy weddings to swoon over, but we have to say our next wedding is quite magical. James & Georgina set out to create a wedding that was bright, colorful and super fun. They wanted it to have a handmade feel that was overflowing with personal touches. They didn’t want their wedding just to say Georgina and James, they wanted it to shout it from rooftops. As you can clearly see, they did exactly that.

Captured by one of our favorite Australian wedding photographers Feather + Stone. You simply must see more of this handmade vintage carnival wedding in the full gallery by clicking here.

From Georgina:

When James and I started dreaming up our “Vintage Carnival” wedding, we had no idea just how rewarding all of our efforts would be on the day. Seeing our loved ones, both young and old, having a bash at croquet, my 92 and 99 year old grandparents eating fairy floss off a stick and watching everybody dancing the night away under strings of exposed bulbs and a night sky full of stars was truly the most magical experience of my life.

We set out to create a wedding that was bright and colourful and fun. We wanted it to have a very handmade feel and we made a lot of the little touches ourselves. We didn’t want our wedding just to say George and James, we wanted it to shout it from rooftops!! We had all these crazy ideas and Trudy and Nadia, the legends and creators of dreams, from Lovebird Weddings, brought them to life for us. It was so much more amazing than I ever could have imagined! And lucky for the us, the ridiculously talented Seth and Tenielle from Feather + Stone have captured our day so beautifully that for the rest of our lives we will be able to look at our photos and be transported back to the magical Big Top and the Spectacular that was our wedding!

How much fun is the ceremony site? Haystacks with mismatched blankets and a lace alter cabana. A rustic table was set up next to the cabana with a book and simple can of flowers for signing the wedding documents. There are a ton more photos in the full gallery to check out of the ceremony site by clicking here.

From Feather + Stone:

Working with James & George was an absolute joy. I’ve never seen two people celebrate with as much gusto as these two did. Documenting James’ expression as Georgina walked down the aisle has been one of the most memorable things we’ve ever witnessed. This was a celebration in every sense of the word, from the spontaneous dancing mid ceremony through to the dancing under the stars that continued into the wee hours of the morning. James & Georgina’s wedding really “them” and anyone who witnessed it, from their guests through to the vendors, saw it clearly. There’s something so amazing when two people put every bit of themselves, their personalities, their story into their planning, when it comes to the day it’s one of the most beautiful celebrations you’ll ever witness.

One of our favorite elements was the punch bar. Georgina and James set up a long table filled with mismatched vintage tea cups for the fruity punch. Such a clever and unique idea … don’t you think? The dining area was equally as fabulous. Still keeping with the mismatched theme, they lined the tables with mixed china and loosely arranged florals in a variety of vases. Each table had an old window frame propped up against it with that table’s guests.

The couple seemed to hit the nail on the head with each and every one of their selections, including their wedding stationery. Royal Steamline created their vintage carnival wedding invites. Royal Steamline also happens to be one of our Hand-Picked wedding vendors, you can see more of their work by clicking here.

Amelie Wedding Inspiration

Amelie is not only a heart-felt movie, but also has a ton of  lovely wedding inspiration throughout the film. So much inspiration that The Emerics created an outdoor garden wedding vignette inspired by the film. Filled with organic elements, quotes from the film and a very specific color scheme of greens and reds. Read on to hear more details from these Las Vegas wedding photographers. Do check out more Amelie wedding inspiration in the full gallery by clicking here.

We decided on small plants as favors too because Amelie has potted plants along the windowsill of her apartment and thought it would flow nicely with the organic vibe. Since Amelie was a waitress at a cafe in Paris, we decided on a menu board instead of individual menus on the plates. In the movie you can see her handwriting the menu on glass. And just to pay further homage to the movie itself, we chose a few of our favorite quotes and hung them alongside the escort cards.

Jason and I set out to create a wedding inspired by the French movie Amelie, which is our favorite movie of all time – our daughter’s middle name is Amelie, just as an indication as to how much we love it! I began to seek out the organic elements of the movie, as well as our favorite quotes to help us set the scene for a small, intimate courtyard wedding. The movie has a very specific color scheme of greens and reds, so we kept those colors throughout the design elements.

The narrator describes Amelie early in the movie as someone who enjoyed “life’s small pleasures : immersing one’s hand in a sack of grain, cracking the crust of a crème brulée with the back of a teaspoon or skipping stones on the Canal St-Martin.” We used burlap sacks with the word, amour, over the outdoor fireplace, we also used had a vase of river rocks for guests to write wishes for the newlyweds on, and of course, creme brulee was part of our dessert table.

A lot of the pieces were thrift store finds, such as the cake table, the suitcase, and the panel with fabric strips. We simply refurbished them ourselves to match our color scheme. We had our talented friend, Sarah Barajas, make the crepe cake, raspberry tart, and creme brulee. There were a lot of DIY elements throughout the decor, as well. Jason hand-sewed the burlap sacks and the burlap “cards” flag then made stencils for the letters. I painted the small terre cotta pots green then used sandpaper to give them a distressed look. We also designed and printed our own escort cards, place cards, and quote cards. The table covering was also made by the floral artist based on the vision we had.

Real Mad Men Wedding Designed By David Tutera

Jason and Taylor love the impeccable ’60s-inspired style of the hit show Mad Men. They also wanted their wedding to  feel like a place they take clients for drinks and dinner. Seems simple enough … right? Apparently not,  Taylor had a hard time finding anything that looked like, “Mad Men” theme without looking cheap or cheesy. The only thing that seemed to be spot on with her initial planning process was our Mad Men Save The Date.

Lucky for Jason and Taylor, David Tutera from My Fair Wedding  came into the picture and took over. Arranging every detail for their Mad Men inspired wedding. The entire celebration went off without a hitch and was more then they could ever imagine. Read on to hear more from the bride and be sure to see more retro inspired wedding ideas from this real Mad Men wedding by clicking here. All captured by Matt & Molly Snelson of Mathieu Photography.

Filming with the crew was awesome. It sounds so cliche but by the end I didn’t notice the cameras. I felt like these were my friends from way back in the day and we were just catching up. Both Jason and I really gave David full rein of our wedding. We had no strings attached. We knew it was going to be fantastic. I don’t think we knew how amazing. I would have never dreamed that I would be doing a photo shoot on the set of “Mad Men” or to get married there. I mean I joked around with my family when they said, “What do you think David will do?” My response was, “Put us on the set to say I do.” I said it thinking no way on God’s green Earth was that a possibility.

Everything on my wedding day went off without a hitch, or if a hitch happened I didn’t know about it because the crew handled it. I got to be like so many Grooms. I showed up and got dressed and then married. I didn’t stress about the caterer, florist, or rentals. I sat up in the suite with my girls and Mom. That is the way everyone should get married.

Jason and I chose the theme of “Mad Men” because when we first got engaged I asked Jason what he wanted for the wedding. His reply was, “To get married in the Galapagos Islands, to not wear a tux, to have a “Seinfeld” themed wedding cake, a whiskey and cigar bar. I vowed to have him not wear a tux, to have a whiskey and cigar bar. I looked into the rest but they were kinda out there requests. From what I could do I thought I could make the whiskey and cigar bar have a lounge feel like in “Mad Men.” I wanted it to feel like the place they take clients for drink and dinner. Jason and I are big into retro fashion, especially the sixties, so the concept just kinda snowballed from there.

When I saw Jason at the end of the aisle, tears were instantly in my eyes. Jason and I have been together for 8 years. It was long over due, because I have known that he was “The One” since our first date. David and his team made Jason far more handsome than Donald Draper ever could be, which I know was an easy job. My officiant was my Uncle Timmers, it was his first wedding and truly I think he knocked it out of the park. Every tear shed was of pure happiness and love

My photographers were the only thing that I was allowed to keep when David changed everything, although if he had tried to change them I would have fought to the death to keep them. I know that they have been to some crazy weddings, but between the filming schedule and my family they were able to get the most amazing shots of Jason and I that I will cherish for a lifetime and more. Not only were Molly and Matt able to take charge and get the shots they needed to they are such professionals and amazing people that they brought out the true Jason and Taylor moments. Jason and I are not the most photogenic people, I know everyone says that, but truly, and Molly and Matt captured that day in the photos. I loved the way they both took pictures that had the booms and cameras in the shots it capture the true essence of that day.

All in all it was a beautiful wedding. Jason and I are truly blessed. We couldn’t have “Dreamed Bigger” as David says. Thank you to everyone who helped,. some of you I will never know but I want to personally say thank you for making my wedding everything I wanted and more.

Pride and Prejudice Midnight Tea

Chicago wedding photographer Kortnee Kate Photography and event designer Dora Manuel of Viva Bella Events collaborated to bring you “Pride and Prejudice, Midnight Tea.” Designing an event around what would have been a late night tea reception after the wedding of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth.

Held in Darbyshire, England in the late 18th century and overflowing with striking details and one of the fanciest wedding cakes we have ever seen. See more Pride and Prejudice wedding ideas in the full gallery by clicking here and read on to hear complete decor details.

The stationary designs are intended to capture the timelessness and formality of a late 18th century British courtship while infusing unexpected modern embellishments. In true “high tea” form, rhinestone encrusted escort cards are each displayed atop a single sugar cube foreshadowing the events to come with period-correct tea time details like teapots, cups and saucers—each appearing among prim swirly bits inspired by Jane Austen’s classic novel. We particularly love the subtle detail in the escort cards’ placement on the worn squares of the chess board complimenting the shape of the sugar cubes perfectly, as true to then as to present day.

Mr. Darby and Elizabeth’s invitations include traditional fonts—but formatted in a very new, dramatic way. Large, sweeping text playfully mimics steam from a teapot while silhouettes of bride and groom give a nod to pristine English cameos worn in the era. Classic Victorian patterns weave throughout each piece; but instead of pastels, we update the traditional palette to bold, rich hues of teal and black complimented by rich jewel tones. Silk tea bags nest inside vintage English tea cups—each elegantly tethered to a custom tag welcoming its guest with one of many inspirational messages pertaining to love, tea and sweetness, remaining true to the “Pride & Prejudice, Midnight Tea” design theme.

The lighting sets the tone as subdued yet energetic, cool blue, yet romantic, more “club” than “country club,” and strikingly true to our image of “the late night event of the era.”

The deep teal table linens chosen by the design time were rich in color and texture to set the stage for the opulence and extravagance of the setting. The linens and napkins are accented with brooches. The ruffled chair skirts are feminine yet bold in color and design.

Classic cameos are thoughtfully placed at each setting and vintage brooches adorn each swag in the table linen, candy dishes overflow with gems and pearls and hanging English tea cups reminisce our theme.

The grandeur of the time is accentuated with gorgeous centerpieces in rich jewel tones including Hydrangea, Roses, Cabbage, Eucalyptus, and other organic elements, all in a formal silver vintage footed vase. As often seen in the Georgian era as well as today, we’ve incorporated fruit to reflect abundance and prosperity. Additionally, we have impeccably dressed vintage silver containers for the occasion with sugar cubes, fruit, and flowers.

Our dessert table exudes noble and timeless British elegance with engraved cake labels placed delicately into impressive gem-laden stands and proudly displayed on the cake tiers aside their miniature counterparts. Each confection incorporates the luxurious elements of our imagined “Pride & Prejudice, Midnight Tea” theme; black lace and jewel toned satin and pleated ribbons adorn these opulent, sinful delights.

The sugar flowers are as reminiscent to the late 18th century fashion as they are to today’s haute couture adding to the whimsical mood of the theme. Each guest is delighted with a confectionery gift designed to welcome them personally to Darbyshire’s quintessential event of the era, the “Midnight Tea” reception of the esteemed Mr. Darcy and his new bride, Elizabeth.

Elizabeth’s brooch bouquet features vintage heirloom rhinestone brooches with a dupioni silk, satin, and organza stem treatment.

Hot Air Balloon Wedding Ideas

Punches of color make a wedding feel lively and youthful. That’s why we are suckers for adding yellow to any wedding theme. It effortlessly matches up with everything and anything. Looks especially snappy with a hot air ballon theme … don’t you think?  All this fun and playfulness was captured by one of our very own Hand-Picked Wedding photographers Lavender & Twine.

Be sure to read on as these central coast wedding vendors go into more detail on this playful inspirational shoot. So many many more pretty pictures to swoon over in the full gallery. You have to see a close up of this yellow cake and you will fall in love with these hot air balloon table numbers designed by Lilly & Louise.

From: Lavender & Twine.

Tenley Erin Young, named “America’s Best Floral Designer” after winning the TV Show “The Arrangement”, designed the gorgeous florals to enhance the lemon yellow used in the attire. She worked with billy balls, dusty millers, parrot tulips, hydrangea, succulents and greens. We especially love the bouquet–so unique!

Lilly & Louise took our ideas and ran with them, translating our Hot Air Balloon Wedding Ideas into the most precious invitation suite that tied everything together perfectly.

This lemon-themed shoot was inspired by a beautiful local venue, Limoneira Ranch in Santa Paula CA. It is a hidden gem, known for both their delicious lemons (a real working ranch!) and hot air balloons. It’s tucked away in the hills and when you drive up to the Ranch you drive through towering eucalyptus trees, and miles of lemon groves. The site is amazing with several wedding locations on the property, which allows each of it’s couples to customize their wedding to fit their own personal vision.

We wanted a fun and playful look, and to inspire bride’s who love a pop of color we incorporated yellow into different parts of the bride and groom’s attire. Our bride is wearing a sweet short gown by La Soie Bridal – Santa Barbara. We wanted to add a little ‘zest’ with her accessories; the sweater is from Forever 21 and the adorable satin shoes are by Nina Shoes. The bride’s birdcage veil was handmade by VVeronique Coleccion.

For the groom we stumbled upon Me and Matilda who handmade the Gingham print suspenders and tie to match the rest of our vision. We completed his look with khakis and a white shirt from Gap and penny loafers from Bass.

Carnival Wedding Ideas

In case you have not noticed, we love anything that is fun, whimsical and these carnival wedding ideas are as whimsical as it can get. Think outrageous candy bar filled with brightly colored sweets, delicious food, a hand-crafted pinwheel backdrop, and stunning floral selections. You will find all of these carnival ideas and more from A Style Collective along with tips and tricks to throw the ultimate carnival wedding. Be sure to see all the images in the full gallery photographed by Ryan Price. They are truly pin worthy.

Our goal was to strike a whimsical note while offering a nostalgic feeling and still keep the color palette lively and versatile. Red, powder blue, blush pink, and pops of black & white were the perfect match for this set. We played the colors up on the dessert table with our paper designs, a hand-crafted pinwheel backdrop, brightly colored sweets, and stunning floral selections. Our white washed vintage buffet server was brought to life. Traci at Cupcake Cachet created the most adorable, perfectly coordinating cake with ruffles, stripes, fondant, and a custom balloon topper.

Her bubble-gum cupcakes and cotton candy cake push-up pops were also a major focal point on our sweets table. We’re not sure which was sweeter, the look of her goodies with our paper goods and backdrop or the delectable taste of them all. Traci ROCKS. We also used bulk candy, salty popcorn, rock candy sticks, and donut parfait “sundaes” as extra carnival inspired nibbles. The paper goods we designed reflected this whimsical and bright vibe by serving as
unique additions to the displays. Fork picks, cupcake toppers and wrappers, cocktail glass tags, etc. are even more eye candy than the desserts alone.

We styled the simple but striking sweetheart’s table to coordinate perfectly with its pinwheel adornment, custom Mr. & Mrs. sings, pink and vintage lace table linens, LOVE frame backdrop, and a vintage replica Circus Animal Cracker tin for flowers. We’re not sure anything could have worked better for this set’s style than the beautiful red anemones, billy balls, blush peonies, and blue hydrangeas. The bride’s bouquet also had sweet blue and white lollipop accents and a pink and white striped cotton ribbon that left us swooning.

The idea for food and beverages was shown through our vintage wardrobe-bearing cocktail waitresses who toted red trays of indulgences from chicken & waffles to cotton candy martinis. Lori Alexander, with 7 Closets Vintage, was on set to offer her unique vintage wardrobe options and style these cocktail waitresses as well as our groom in his tasteful suspenders and bow-tie. Ventura’s Bridal of Houston provided the bride’s adorable and fun short dress that matched the nostalgic carnival theme so well.

We couldn’t let this shoot end without the addition of oversized balloons and pinwheels. Shooting amongst the Kemah Boardwalk and Carnival was the quintessential playground for these fun props and for Ryan to capture wonderfully with his artistic style of photography. The ferris wheel, carousel, games, sea wall, and energy of the Saturday crowd were the best backdrop we could have asked for. We were thrilled with the results. I think anyone would want to jump right into this scene upon viewing the photo playback. I can almost smell those bubble gum cupcakes! A huge thank you to all of the contributing vendors! You guys rocked this one and truly allowed us to have so much creative freedom and fun. Ryan Price did a remarkable job at telling the story through such beautiful images.

How to create your own Carnival Boardwalk Wedding

1. Color Palette
Select a color palette that is bold and brings in the opportunity for a carnival inspired vibrancy. Colors like a bright red, pink, yellow, or aqua blue are amazing to work with in décor elements from balloons to candy to flowers. If you feel hesitant to go too over-the-top, choose a classic black & white base and add one additional strong color for the punch.

2. Whimsical Décor
You may not want to get too “theme” happy, but even a few tasteful additions to your wedding décor that reflect carnival elements can be just the thing to make it stand out. Perhaps you love the idea of lollipops in your bouquet, a festive candy stand, outdoor game or prize areas, balloons, colorful tents outdoors, or dressed up cocktail waitresses.

3. Inspired Catering
Forget the standard buffet or meat & potatoes dish. Let your catering venue get creative with carnival inspired food selections or passed small bites like chicken and waffles, corn dog poppers, herb tossed French fries, funnel cake, or cotton candy. Perhaps for an interactive cocktail station you could have create your own spiked snow cones or cotton candy martinis.

4. Games & Prizes
This is the fun, self-explanatory part. Get your guests involved in more than just ‘oo-ing’ and ‘ah-ing’ about your wedding dress. Entertain them outdoors with games, juggling acts, balloon artists, etc. Do you have children attending? Have a face painting booth. Your adult guests will definitely feel young at heart the more interactive your lounge or outdoor cocktail hour is.

5. Attire
Inform your guests of the ‘feel’ of your wedding in your wedding invite or website by encouraging more casual, comfortable, or whimsical dress. Sundresses, bow-ties, and suspenders welcome. If you want to represent a certain ‘era’ like the 1950s or 1940s then, by all means, encourage them to partake. The more relaxed your guests are, the more fun they will have – especially on the dance floor. Allow your bridal party to wear knee length dresses and have a fun cocktail dress for yourself to change into.

6. Paper Goods
It’s a well known fact that your save-the-dates, wedding invite, and wedding branded paper goods set the initial tone of your event. Get creative with a graphic designer to portray the mood you envision for your big day. Adding confetti, touches of mini fabric pendant banners, hand-stamped hot air balloon, or carnival font-types can add in a whimsical note. Now your guests first impression is a unique one!

Ideas For a Cinderella Themed Wedding

Looking to have a fairy tale-inspired wedding with an over the top table decor, ballgown wedding dress and opulence galore? You are going to love all of these Ideas for a Cinderella themed Wedding from Bethann Greenberg Photography and Couture Events. Complete with lavish gowns, gold table decor, grandiose floral arrangements and of course a prince charming. To see more Cinderella wedding inspiration click here and be sure to share with us what you think.

To start the planning process for your majestic wedding, you need to think about where you are going to hold your fairy tale wedding. Most venues can be transformed into a magical wonderland – a private estate, garden or winery venue. Chandeliers would be ideal, but no necessary. These San Diego wedding vendors choose a Private Estate in Rancho Santa Fe to bring all this Cinderalla goodnes.

From: Bethann Greenberg Photography

When the fabulous Bethany from Lotus Hair Design Studio approached me about doing a shoot, something striking and dramatic she could put up on the wall of her new salon, my first thought was, Marie Antoinette! But I knew it wouldn’t be enough to just photograph a model with big hair and a dress. So I went to wedding planner, Krystel with Couture Events, known for her vision and creativity, and talked to her about putting together something that would knock people’s socks off.

Krystel immediately thought of Cinderella. It occurred to us, why not fuse our two concepts together?, and “Marie meets Cinderella” was born. We found a beautiful private estate in Ranch Santa Fe that looked as if it had been created for this very shoot. In addition, the combination of all our talented vendors, including the wonderful Teal Green Designs who created the magnificent “Cinderella Pumpkin Chair,” really made the set something to behold. After Bethany and Brides by Brittany worked their magic, our Prince Charming, Cinderella, and her two stepsisters were ready to go! I, Bethann Greenberg Photography, took care of the rest!

Pick up a Horseshoe Bridal Tank Top and Buck Tee for Groom while you are picking up your Welcome Wedding Totes.

From: Brooke Keegan Events

Our inspiration for this shoot was the RL Ranch meets the mountains in the winter. With lots of rich texture, colors and patterns, we brought both elements together in the beautiful Sierra’s. Mammoth Mountain was the perfect backdrop for the shoot. Shooting at 3 locations on the Mountain; a Private Estate in Juniper Ridge, Tamarack Lodge and Dry Creek Bar and Terrace at the Mammoth Mountain Inn. Each location was perfect for what we were looking for.

Fusion Linens custom made the wood table and benches for the tabletop shoot. Elegant by Design did a great job capturing the ranch feeling within the florals, decor, pillows, runner and vessels used. The copper silverware and amber chargers were a great addition to the tabletop design, thanks to Signature Party Rentals. The cake was created by the fabulous Sweet Gems Cakes. The mini desserts and drinks to accompany it were created by the talented Chef Will Flores. The models hair and makeup was gorgeous thanks to Beauty-Full by Molly. The paper suite was perfect! Wiley Valentine always creates the most amazing paper goods. The stunning photos were taken by the talented Lane Dittoe Photogrpahy.

1960s Backyard Wedding

Straight out of the 60s, we have a backyard wedding with a few modern updates that is overflowing with personal statements and style.

Jenny and Aaron had their super stylish 60s wedding in their own home that they have been restoring and renovating for the past two years.  What an awesome way to show off their handy work and love all in one shabang. You can see more of this 1960s Backyard Wedding Photographed by Lilia Photography in the full gallery by clicking here. Read on to hear more juicy details from the bride, Jenny.

The theme of our wedding was Jenny and Aaron. It was very personal and very us!
Our wedding ceremony and reception was held at our home that we have been restoring and renovating together for the past 2 years. I paint pop art paintings for a living and I hand-painted a portrait of the two of us. Our portrait greeted everyone as they walked into our backyard. Aaron is a musician and audio engineer, so I found antique sheet music that I cut into paper pennants that were strung around the backyard and inside the house. This paper was also used to decorate the cupcake tower. To top it off, we love all things vintage, family history, and 60s lounge music. We gave our wedding a healthy dose of all three!

I did a ton of DIY projects! I made a wedding zine that included the regular program information, but also included fun facts about our 1912 Craftsman home, a scavenger hunt, and a welcome poem that Aaron wrote. We made 1 inch buttons for guests to take using vintage dictionary paper with cute wedding words like “love bird” and “bliss”. Besides that, we did the usual fun wedding must-have DIY projects like the tissue paper flowers, paper pennants made out of music sheets, and pinwheels.

An interesting tidbit about our wedding was that my mom was able to wear her wedding dress to my wedding. She married in 1968 and wore a yellow mini dress with a sheer cape and pill box hat. The dress is still in great condition and she fit in it perfectly! I think she most liked the attention from it and really “hammed” it up all day!

My favorite memory of our wedding was having all our friends and family at our home. Many of the people that came had never seen our place and all the work we’ve done to it. Before the wedding, I was nervous if everyone would all fit comfortably in the backyard and in the house, but it all worked out beautifully. It was cozy, but not squished. It was cute seeing how proud my dad was of the house (he helped us out a lot with his handyman skills) and giving family friends tours. It was nice seeing how everyone really appreciated all our hard work and enjoyed the space. It really warmed our home and gave us a giant boost of happy memories.

San Diego Spanish Style Wedding

Emily and Abe wanted a small intimate wedding that really focused on the details of who they were as a couple. Rancho Valencia was the perfect setting because it already gave off the Spanish Hacienda feel which was the look Emily and Abe were going for.

Abe, the groom – being the talented artist he is – designed all the paper goods for the wedding. They were also huge dessert fans so their dessert display was very elaborate with key lime pies, churro flavored cupcakes, macaroons, cake pops and homemade mexican cookies. All beautifully planned out by LVL Weddings & Events.  There are so many more beautiful images to see in the full gallery captured by Paula Luna.

We love all the details that Emily and Abe incorporated into their Spanish Style Wedding, especially the mini tequila bottles used as escort cards. You can choose any tequila, the couple went with small bottles of Patron Anejo Tequila for $8 a bottle, placed guests name and table numbers on natural paper and tied it around the bottle. Making for an easy yet festive escort card and wedding favor. Olé!

You definitley need to sit back, relax and watch Emily and Abe’s film captured by one of our favorites Joel Serrato Films.

Honey Bee Wedding Ideas

Thinking of adding a little honey love to your wedding? You really can go so many directions with this theme, and Michelle Lemley shows us some incredibly cute ideas to incorporate the sweet stuff into your wedding. Like dressing your bridesmaids in sunny yellow dresses and having some way cute bee worthy wedding florals to go with everything. Courtesy of Pink Posey Design, you have to see more way cute honey bee wedding ideas in the full gallery.

From: Michelle Lemley

Here is how a bride can create a DIY Honey bee wedding. Of course, the best place to start gathering ideas is to find that first inspiration piece. Ours was a gorgeous plate from Anthropologie that had a honey bee in the center. By looking at the accent colors on the plate we came up with colors for the flowers & décor. Those included light green, yellow & black, ivory, and soft gold. Then I was able to find beautiful ribbon to wrap the honey sticks & charming stickers to label the honey jars. As far as décor I was determined to find charming details that would boast a soft & sweet appearance. Enter honey bee napkins holders and honey bee bottle caps. To my delight, I found adorable wooden honey sticks to compliment the honey and tea cups.

The same day I discovered a light yellow teapot with honey bees engraved in the porcelain. We also had vintage white tea cups and plates that were perfect for our tea and honey bar.
The florist used black & white ribbon for one bouquet. She also created a one of kind bouquet with yellow rose petals resembling one large rose bouquet with a shimmer of white ribbon. The flowers included daisies, roses, billy balls, gladiolas, and anemone’s. They were simply stunning and one can never go wrong with yellow! Don’t forget about the sweets! Our amazing baker created a fluffy ivory cupcake with a beautiful Ivory & yellow flower on top. Finally, I knew I needed to start looking for the Bride & Bridesmaids dresses. I found a gorgeous yellow dress from Urban Outfitters that had an open back. Then we went to Blue Bridal and found the loveliest Tara Keely gown that incorporated the southern belle/sweetness appeal. The end result was a bright and colorful palette with sweet honey, tea, champagne & a gorgeous sunny day.

African Safari Wedding Ideas

Away from busy streets of a tourist city, there is one truly exceptional place that makes you want to stop the time and enjoy the moments of tremendous experience. It is the residence of Ms. Bubbles – a gorgeous African elephant with the big ears, big trunk, big feet, and also with a big heart.

Elephants in many countries around the world symbolize patience, wisdom, longevity, the power of family and happiness. Those are important ingredients to every recipe of happy marriage. All beautifully photographed by Pasha Belman Photography. See so many more African Safari Wedding Ideas in the full gallery.

From: Pasha Belman Photography

The vision that the vendors collaboratively had about the shoot was to create simple but at the same time original in design wedding inspiration of mostly earthy tones and elements, with slight color accents of soft orange, light blue and turquoise. The bride looked stunning in her off-white wedding gown during the ceremony part of the shoot. The dress was very simple with just an accent piece on her waist.

The bride changed into less formal gown for the relaxed after-the-ceremony part of the shoot. Soft off-white tones of her gowns helped stylists to achieve natural simplicity that they had in mind. Her hand-made hairpieces with natural elements such as feathers and leaves and elegant jewelry with rustic metallic accents became the key elements to the bride’s looks. Her gorgeous hair definitely added a pop of color to the photos. Braiding was essential in providing more authentic look. Our hair stylist wanted to add a little wild touch to her hair and emphasize the wildness of safari experience. She also added a touch of tribal character to the bride’s make-up, which made her look quite unique. A little pop of color on the lips – and the look is complete.

The floral design was quite unique in nature. Bride’s bouquet had bamboo handle with dry natural element symbolizing the dryness of safari desert and with long feathers representing the wild side of the safari love affair. Freshly cut bamboo accents helped to form a structure for the altar. Palm leaves and candles created cozy atmosphere during the ceremony. Elegantly decorated bamboo chairs and the dinner table covered with animal print linens became a perfect setting for the romance.

Vintage Travel Wedding Ideas

We guarantee you are going to swoon over our next inspirational shoot. We know you are already head over heels over the bride’s baby blue vintage style dress. If you are a long time visitor, you know that we adore a colored gown, especially if it’s overflowing with ruffles.

Besides the fabulous wedding fashion, the table decor, dessert and guest book, the tables are all filled with steal worthy vintage travel wedding ideas. These ideas can easily be incorporated into your nex event. Beautifully designed by Colorado vendors Toast and photographed by Cat Mayer Studio. You can see more in the full gallery by clicking here.

We are all over these travel inspired wedding favors that you could easily replicate. Each of the wedding favors was wrapped in map style wrapping paper and tied with twine and had a vintage inspired travel tag attached to it. Each guests name was hand written on the tags to add that little extra touch of personalization. What you put in these adorable boxes is up to you.

Renting vintage dressers from your local vintage rental company is such a great way to set up side stations at your wedding. One to place the deserts on and one for a guest book signing area. To keep with the vintage-inspired travel theme, heart garlands were strung on each of the tables.

New Year Eve Wedding Ideas

How fun does it sound to gather up all your friends and throw a huge New Year’s Eve Wedding? Lucky for us, we have some utterly fabulous ideas from one of our favorite event designers Hey Gorgeous Events. Take it all in and start planning for 2013. See more New Year’s Eve Wedding Ideas, photographed by Jenna McKenzie Photography by clicking here. Happy New Year!

From: Hey Gorgeous Events

I love the prettiest shade of blush pink as much as the next wedding savvy chick out there (it’s even a major part of my branding!) and I sure can’t resist a perfectly placed vintage detail, but in hopes of putting some fresh inspiration of there, my team and I thought a little outside the box with this shoot. Together we brought the idea of a New Years Eve dinner party elopement to life with some pretty chic ways to ring in 2012. With just the right amount of sparkle, a beautiful color palette of every shade of blue imaginable, and little nostalgic touches reminiscence of another new year (I swear confetti will never go out of style!) we couldn’t think of a more beautiful way to end a fabulous year while simultaneously celebrating sweet love.

Again a special thanks to Hey Gorgeous Events for sharing all of these New Year Eve Wedding Ideas. Wishing everyone a happy happy New Year. See you next year.

Circus Wedding Ideas

Our next feature was actually a 30th birthday celebration for event designer Lindsey Hartsough for Magnolia Event Design. The ideas were so spectacular and could easily be carried over for a wedding. Lindsey goes on to share how her day was put together and of course give you some fabulous Circus Wedding Ideas. That are glitzy, glamorous and of whole lot of fun.

The ever so fabulous Linda Chaja captured this fun day. You can see so many more photos in the full gallery by clicking here. Let us know what you think about this circus extravaganza.

From Lindsey:

Circus to me evokes fun, childhood, fantasy, beauty and all things wonderful. Being an event designer I find that food is the easiest way to convey a theme to your guests and luckily for me the thought of “Circus/Carnival Food” makes me giddy!  I am a girl who loves to go to carnivals, cicus’ and fairs to experience all the tasty treats that aren’t easy to come by.  I taste a lot of “fancy” food for my clients, but there is nothing like a corn dog, churro, popcorn, cotton candy or a caramel apple.  Because my guests are used to fancy food I thought it would be fun for them to go back to childhood and enjoy lots of tasty treats.  I worked with the chef to “fabulize” the  foods a bit, but really didn’t want to take away from the traditional mindset that these foods convey.

So, what is a birthday without a cake?  To me funfetti cake is childhood all baked up!  There is something unexpected and fun about cutting into a formal cake and finding every cover of the rainbow inside. Jessica created her Salted Caramel Apples and Beet Sugar dyed Truffles. Okay, you may think you have tried a Caramel Apple before, but you haven’t! These little puppies make my mouth water just writing about them. As the birthday girl I would have hoped my friends would have left me one, but NO! Those babies were devoured before I had a chance to grab one for myself… how rude!

A “Lindsey” event isn’t an event without an Open Air Photo Booth… we created a custom backdrop for the booth and was sparkly and super fun. Nick designed the perfect custom layout to match the event perfectly! Who knew that in Nick’s bag of tricks was a professional grade cotton candy maker machine thing? Nick has that little sugar goddess available for rent and let me tell you first hand how much fun it is to have cotton candy at your party… real FUN!

As you see there are a ton of custom cocktails at the party. Lindsey greeted guest with a custom cocktail.

I really love floral tasting drinks and feel in love with Parfait Amour, which is a violet liqueur on one of my trips to Vancouver.   I worked with Josh at Blush to create the perfect signature cocktail for my event.  I wanted something with a violet hue and that had a floral taste.

Lindsey’s Luscious Lavender Sparkler
1 part Pinky vodka (This  vodka is hand blended with violets, rose petals and ten other botanicals),

1 part rose champagne
and a dash of Parfait Amour.
We garnished with fresh mini edible flowers

The idea of carnival food at a wedding at first makes you think ummmm no…but, we love the idea of jazzing it up a bit and making carnival food fancy. Sounds like an episode of Top Chef. What do you think? Would you opt for carnival food at a wedding?

Mossin the super duper fabulous chef at Blush created a custom menu for me and the guests raved about the flavors and treats. We had carnival treats- churros, corndogs, French fries, mac and cheese, burgers,

Starbucks Wedding

We are positive that there are dozens of you that have meet your soulmate at Starbucks/your local coffee house. In fact there are so many of you out there that Paul Nelson Images and Blossom Events collaborated to bring you some inspiration for a coffee themed wedding. Your wedding does not  necessarily have to be held at a coffee shop. Read on to hear how you can have a Starbucks Wedding and of course be sure to  see the entire gallery with way more coffee shop photos here.

Setting: We wanted a photo shoot that felt cozy, casual and fun. We wanted to use the idea of a couple of have had their first date in the coffee shop and associate the idea of why people hung out in Starbucks. So we wanted the dark furniture, brick walls, chalkboards, shelves, books, and of course coffee beans to create the feel and coziness of it. The School Café and Bakery was a perfect location for us, as it incorporates all of the above.

Stationery: Along with the idea of first date at a café, we wanted to create a set of invitations that would be fun, and non-traditional. The main colours we used are the Starbucks Green and White. Matching tea packages and coffee labels were made to continue with the casual theme. The tea and coffee names are of course inspired by selection that Starbucks carry. Because we wanted this to be fun, we decided that mini newspaper programs with a crossword puzzle at the back about the couple would be a great way to create the relaxed feeling, just like sitting at a café. As for the table number, we decided instead of a normal traditional table number, we could use coffee specials in Starbucks to name them, like Caramel Macchiato which is well known there. Lastly, as Starbucks always have a CD of the week on their cash counter, we decided we can have something similar created as ‘guest favors’.

Cake: Inspired by Starbucks small bites desserts and snacks, we knew that Jaime from Wicked Little Cake Company whom we worked in the past before would do an awesome job! A simple cake complemented with homemade fluffy marshmallows, coffee beans, coffee mugs was exactly what we imagine that would fit a theme like ours.

Owl Love You Wedding

Thanks to the lovely ladies at Sarah Houston Couture for sharing these Owl Love You Wedding ideas with us. Merging Fashion with some sophisticated wedding ideas that are totally doable. Read on to see how this fantasy was brought to life by Electric Blonde Entertainment and Events along with some obviously talented Canadian wedding vendors.

To see more owl wedding ideas along with the latest wedding fashions from Sarah Houston Couture be sure to click here.

The theme for the shoot, “Owl Love You Forever”, was inspired by the owl fashion accessory craze. Our goal was to create a color palette that married fall and winter colors, bridging the gap between the seasons. We used traditional fall items in the shoot, like pumpkins for the centerpieces, and brought in the winter season by wrapping our model in a cozy fur and using balls of fuzzy grey yarn to display table numbers. The palette consisted of soft greys and plums, vibrant rusts and oranges, a rich mocha, and a hint of nude

The birdseed pine cone favors were made using peanut butter on pine cones and then rolling them in birdseed – very budget friendly.

The root beer floats were made in mismatched mason jars with retro looking root beer and paper straws. Adding rum or whiskey would make this a delish signature cocktail and the froth on the top adds a dreamy cloud-like texture to the photos.

We styled our gorgeous model Hillary in two gowns by Sarah Houston. The first, {River}, brought a winter vibe with a hand stitched skirt that reminded us of icicles and snowflakes. The second {Willow} was a lace dress with a more laid back, vintage feel. Our bride completed our owl theme with a feather headpiece and a statement owl ring.

This guest book is a must see. A genius idea by Electric Blonde Entertainment and Events.

For the guestbook, Beet&Path designed five different owls, which I then cut and pasted into a collage on a large canvas. The idea here was that guests would arrive, find a photo of themselves in a box, then cut and paste their face onto the owl of their choice – a fun alternative to the traditional guestbook.

Travel Theme Wedding At The Smog Shoppe

Jenn and Victor are known for their love of wanderlust. So it seemed only natural that their wedding theme would be “around the world”. They carefully displayed art and objects collected  from various countries and used a map for their seating chart. Be sure to take note of the map it is quite a piece of art itself. They also incorporated Jenn’s Chinese heritage and Vic’s Mexican heritage throughout their cocktail hour, making it truly personal.

Enjoy more of this travel theme wedding at The Smog Shoppe photographed by Sweet Monday Photography in the full gallery.

Each guests was given a paper flower before they sat down for the wedding ceremony. After Jenn and Victor became husband and wife guests were asked to toss the flowers. Such a fun and idea.

For their reception, they had amazing BBQ to pay homage to Victor’s Texas roots as well as their mutual love of the BBQ. We love how they infused both of their heritages into their wedding favors. Saying thank you in both their languages on the favor tags is super cute.

Princess Wedding Ideas

eph*ra event design shared with us all these utterly romantic princess wedding ideas. Instead of a grand ball room theme, they opted to go with a charming garden setting. They layered lace, with soft pink flowers, green moss and vintage books.

They had such a lovely idea of having the bride display some her favorite  things at the table to represent her on her wedding day … a hand-painted tray, delicate mirrors, tiny lotus dishes, a crystal decanter, a frog prince, bunny bookends, old family pictures, chandeliers and bird cages. The beautiful pink silk boxed invitation and coordinating table numbers and menus tie in perfectly to the theme. Don’t you think? To see more princess wedding ideas click here. This dreamy, feminine shoot all started with the stunning couture headpiece from the amazing Jannie Baltzer, whom we all adore.

Michelle March Photography loosely based this bridal session on the Greek mythology of Narcissus, who was renowned for his beauty and exceptionally proud. Narcissus disdained those who loved him. Nemesis saw this and attracted Narcissus to a reflection in a pool where he saw his own reflection in the water and fell in love, not realizing it was merely an image of himself.

This gorgeous shoot took place in one of the most romantic places in the world, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, located in Miami-Dade County. See so many more dreamy photos in the full wedding gallery.

Casa Romantica San Clemente Wedding

Casa Romantica in San Clemente was the backdrop for Clarissa and Dodger’s Spanish style wedding. It’s surrounded with beautiful reds, oranges, greens and blues that come from the gardens and Spanish tiles, and of course the ocean.

The bride tied Casa Romantica in with all the wedding details, which included using a design from a spanish tile at Casa Romantica for invitations, menus, and the wedding cake. See the rest of this beautiful Casa Romantica San Clemente Wedding from Joielala Photographie in the full wedding gallery by clicking here.

A Bicycle Wedding Theme

First off, how incredibly clever is that altar? Random vintage bicycles hanging everywhere make this altar one for the books.

From the altar you can tell that cycling plays a major role in Sarah and Jason’s day-to-day lives so it only made sense for them to have a bicycle wedding theme. The bicycle theme is carried throughout the wedding. One of our favorite elements of this wedding is that each guest was given a bike bell as a wedding favor. We adore a bicycle wedding theme so much that we have some free printable bicycle wedding invitations that you can download here.

Be sure to read more from the bride and see more bicycle wedding ideas from Emily Porter Photography by visiting the full gallery and clicking here.

Vintage/Anthropologie Themed Wedding

Allison wanted a vintage/anthropologie theme, which she knew is super popular, however she wanted to put her own little spin on the theme. Do not fret, she gives complete insight on the entire day. With a little help from her friends and some serious style – this wedding is surely to inspire. To see the entire wedding that was captured by onelove photography and read more from the bride. Be sure to click here.

From Allison on the ceremony site:

The curtain panels was something I wanted to do instead of an arch, which is very pricey. I purchased 27 yds of fabric (3 monochromatic tones of natural) from the Los Angeles downtown area and designed panels to create a neutral classic look for both sides of the gate. It provided two purposes; to mask the reception, and to create a ceremonial focal point. Gretchen Durgan with Flower Power LA only added to it’s design by suspending my little vintage bottles filled with flowers with jute twine.

Allison collected old photos and documents from both sides of the family and thought they would look awesome displayed on ripped dropcloth garlands that were made by visual merchadiser, Patrick Michael Masterso. The ripped dropcloth was originally hung in the window of Urban Outfitters, which I run by all the time and is how I came up with the idea. Patrick donated them to me for free and used the wooden clothespins and shipping tags to finish off my design and break the trend of hanging photos just on a clothesline.

In order to make these do-it-yourself table numbers Allison removed the glass and spray painted them with chalkboard paint and hand wrote each number with chalkboard marker. A steal worthy idea that we are sure you are going to take note of.

You might notice a fantastic bird garland in many of the photos, a $30 decoration that took forever to make and required the assistance of Allison and her friends. There are more close up views of this spectacular diy project in the full gallery. Amazing the things you can do with paper.

This lucky couple is the winner of the 2010 Choura Events Facebook Events Giveaway with De-Lovely Events. You must watch their submission video on YouTube here. It is pretty hilarious.

Vibrant Carnival Themed Wedding Ideas

County fair ribbons as table numbers and homemade heart-shaped suckers were only a few of the handmade details from Thomas and Jaelithe’s  carnival inspired wedding. This colorful explosion of love was based around all things that the couple loved most about each other.

Jaelithe said that being in love with her husband is like being at a carnival, although he doesn’t readily supply cotton candy as much as she would like. Pure cuteness. Jaelithe designed the invitations (about 8 times), the save the dates, and every sign and note at the wedding. Music Themed Wedding

Our next bride happens to be full time wedding photographer (Emily Porter Photo) and her wedding has some clever ideas that we know you are sure to enjoy. In fact she goes into full detail about the entire wedding here. From start to finish the theme it’s a music themed wedding. From the engagement all the way to the table decor, it was all about the tunes. Captured by Ken Kienow.

Emily had so many clever ideas for their wedding, but one we think that you will especially love is that the little eggs you see on the table are actually tea lights. Since the wedding is based around music, the idea was to have a song assigned to a table in order for them to hit the buffet. Pure Genius.

The desert table is pretty intense and there are so many more photos of it in the full gallery that you have to see. The reason why it is so intense is Emily lost over 100 pounds (amazing!) and sweets are her weakness so every time she had a craving she added it to the desert table. Another brilliant idea.

Art Deco Wedding by Megan Ann Photography

Monika & Joe were married in downtown San Diego at the The Ultimate Skybox. Their vision from the beginning was a travel/art deco/old Hollywood affair with closest family and friends. Monika designed every detail, including all of the flower arrangements.

Since Monika is from Poland they incorporated the Polish tradition of presenting two shot glasses to the bride and groom. One containing water and the other containing vodka. Whoever picked the vodka is said to “wear the pants in the relationship.” You can tell by the photos who found the vodka.

Yellow and Gray New York Wedding

Get ready for some yellow and gray steal worthy ideas from New York event designers, Rock Paper Scissors Events. They really dove in deep and represented the couple as whole. Taking their love for books and travel and turning into a visual masterpiece. Our favorite element of this fabulous New York wedding is the escort card table along with a huge stack of books and a vintage globe. Share with us what you love! Read on find out all the juicy details from Rock Paper Scissors Events.

Be sure to check out the entire wedding gallery by clicking here.

From Event Stylists: Rock Paper Scissors Events

The bride, Marcella, is a teacher and the groom, Cameron, loves to read, so we personalized the decor with a really cute book and travel theme as they are big travelers as well. The couple lives in Brooklyn, and the wedding took place at the LOVELY Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Each table had a stack of vintage books (that served as a favor for each guest to take home), postcards made by the groom (who is an amateur photographer) of cities they have traveled to together with travel tips from the couple, and gorgeous soft yellow flowers. We used airmail envelope as escort cards, and the groom had vintage polaroid cameras that we used to decorate the escort card table along with a huge stack of books and a vintage globe. Each table represented a different city that the couple had traveled to together, and the postcards with the groom’s photography really livened up each table. The books were a great way to add height and visual interest inexpensively as the bride and groom collected the books at used books stores, stoop sales, and from friends over several months. The end result was an extremely personalized, visually dynamic table that did not break the bank!

Kate Spade Inspired Wedding Ideas

This eclectic, chic photo shoot was inspired completely by Kate Spade. MMD Events wanted to create a table reflecting the eclectic, bright colors and chic design. The absolute perfect location for this eclectic chic inspiration shoot was the Postcard Inn, a fabulous new boutique hotel located on St. Pete Beach. Everything was focused and designed around a bold pattern and the colors of kelly green, hot pink, gold, orange, and black and white. Read on hear more about how this Kate Spade Wedding shoot came to life. All photographed beautifully by Florida wedding photographer, Tina Bass Photography

Be sure to check out all the details by clicking here

We wanted to show brides that they can use bright colors and bold patterns and still be chic and modern. Placed with unique plates, the simple, chic menus created by Emily Ley Paper were the starting element. A simplistic colored border and matching font coordinated with the color of the napkins and the “place books”. Place cards created by Emily were made to look like “titles” for miniature books, doubling as favors at each place setting. Various found objects and a unique table number created by Every Last Detail added to the eclectic feel for the table.

A gorgeous centerpiece in shades of pink garden roses was placed on top of fashion magazines, standing out against the backdrop of a chic black lamp. A champagne and gold overlay was draped over a kelly green satin linen, all provided by Connie Duglin Linen. Gold chivari chairs from Signature Event Rentals were adorned by custom chivari chair toppers created by Simply & Forever Boutique, adding the perfect amount of style and sophistication. Combined with a custom bench cover made of a black and white floral print, the black and white seating completed the whole table.

Our stunning model wore a gorgeous gown provided by White Closet Co. and was all dolled up by Hope Henderson Artistry and Hair By Monique. She was accessorized with Stella & Dot jewelry, Bethany Lorelle hairpieces, and an adorably chic clutch from Oatmeal Lace Design. These bright colors and bold patterns are perfect for a stylish bride wanting a wedding that is a little different, yet still incredibly chic. And of course the details are what complete this whole eclectic chic look!

1960s Mad Men Theme Wedding

Susie here — also known as The Wedding Chicks programmer. You might remember my Mad Men Save the Date from earlier this year (click here to get your own customized version). I can’t believe it, but the wedding came and went on Friday, October 1! I’m here to share the details with you! Please enjoy our Mad Men Theme Wedding.

All of the amazing photos were taken by the super sweet and oh-so-talented Seattle wedding photographer, Julie Harmsen.

When we got engaged we knew our wedding wouldn’t be traditional. We wanted something fun, comfortable, and focused on our love. To come up with the theme, I brainstormed with Jocey (one half of The Wedding Chicks!). Our original venue, which actually went out of operation before our wedding, was decked out in mid-century modern furniture. We loved this look, so we chose to match it with an early-to-mid 60s Mad Men theme. I started collecting ideas by going through vintage magazines from the 1960s, like Vogue, and photo galleries from the show.

To capture the Mad Men look, I had my dress custom designed by Andrea Pitter of Pantora. Working with Andrea was so easy! I explained my vision and she took my ideas and came up with her own creative spin. I finished the look with vintage-inspired jewelry by Mercury Jane Designs on Etsy. The birdcage veil and mini hat was custom designed by Eugenia of Petit Plume, who stepped in for me very last minute and designed something 100% original! Of course the look would not have been complete without the help of Renee and Emily of Two Fishes Artistry, who gave me a high, retro updo and beautiful makeup to match.

We had planned for our wedding to be held at a rooftop venue overlooking the Las Vegas strip. We wanted the reception to feel more like a cocktail party with dancing under the stars. Six weeks before the wedding, we discovered that our venue had gone “out of operation”. Our absolutely incredible wedding coordinator, Juliet Douglas of Green Orchid Events, really came through for us in hunting down a replacement venue on such short notice. She executed and coordinated the entire wedding flawlessly. Juliet and her team were our wedding heroes! Thanks to their hard work, we landed a perfect backup venue in The Platinum Hotel a few miles off the strip. The Misora Terrace at the hotel has a breathtaking view of the Strip as well as the mountains beyond, making it a beautiful spot for the ceremony as well as the perfect spot for a party-vibe reception after sunset.

We kept the ceremony simple, and sweet, and it was such a beautiful event for us! We only invited our immediate family members to the ceremony to keep it intimate. We placed benches for the guests around our four post altar with hanging orange and white blooms and crystals. Everyone had a great seat, and we were surrounded by a warm, loving energy. Our officiant Reverend Judy Irving wrote such a touching ceremony that all of our guests loved.

At the reception, we opted for an interactive dessert station rather than a traditional wedding cake. Our floral designer, Fleuretica, along with Picture Perfect Events, came up with the clever concept of a station divided in half, with one side representing feminine, and the other masculine, joined together by a common object: a window in the middle of a shared wall. This symbolism was so perfect for marriage, but also for the Mad Men theme in creating a retro kitchen for one side, and a sleek mid-century modern bar or office for the other. They filled each space with vintage furniture and props from the 1960s. I felt like we were on the Mad Men set! Sweet and Saucy Shop provided the delicious and lovely little desserts for each side, which included mini lattice top pies and delicate french macaroons in the kitchen, and rich chocolate mousse dessert shots and chocolate dipped pecan shortbread squares in the office.

Guests were encouraged to channel Mad Men in their attire. Fleuretica put together an amazing accessory bar for us, again using vintage pieces and tons of props throughout the display. The ladies could finish off their retro look with gloves, handbags, pearls, and scarves, while the men could grab a fedora, vintage tie, and vest, amongst other items. The station also had other great details, like an old shoe shine kit and perfume bottles. This was a huge hit with our guests! We let them capture their look in photos by setting up a photo booth area with a long couch right next to the accessory bar. Our amazing photographer, Julie Harmsen, created the setup for us and provided a remote control so guests could snap their own shots. We now have hundreds of hilarious, super fun photos that we will absolutely treasure forever.

In lieu of a traditional guestbook, an aqua, vintage typewriter (do any weddings *not* have a vintage typewriter these days?) directed guests to write a note and tack it to our “office bulletin board”, as Mad Men is set mostly in the office. I also purchased an orange suitcase from the 1960s on Etsy, and used it to hold the cookie favors. The favors were made by my uber talented sister-in-law, Brigi, who matched them to the invitations I designed (look for a customizable version of my invitation coming your way soon!). We also included four popular 1960s cocktails for guests to try at the bar.

DJ Smiles Davis of the infamously awesome The Flashdance kept the party going all night long. Smiles was our dream DJ! She played a great eclectic mix of songs and kept the party vibe right where we wanted it without ever treading anywhere near “traditional reception music”. Everything you have heard about The Flashdance is true — they are the best, there is no way around it.

Lighten Films was on hand to capture the event in live action on film. We’ll share a trailer from them in a few weeks so you can see what it was like, up close and personal!

I will be sharing more details and personal stories over in Brides in the coming weeks!

Carmel Super 8 Wedding

Sitting in a Tree shared with us their incredible Super 8 Wedding Film shot by Austin Hendrix. Read on to here about the wedding details from the bride, Myka. If you would like to see more of this wedding you can head on over to Style Me Pretty to check out the whole wedding

Our wedding day was truly a labor of love. Georges and I had decided early on that we wanted to have a cocktail style wedding, no formal sit-down dinner, just drinks, desserts and lots of dancing. To help create our DIY vision, our families and friends poured their hearts into making sure our day was absolutely perfect. Our amazing moms made desserts, our aunts made appetizers, our uncles played live music during the ceremony, our cousins hung fabric, our siblings created floral arrangements and our best friends ran around town making sure everything was ready for our special day. We found the most amazing location nestled away in Carmel Valley. It created the perfect setting to share our day with all of our friends and family. We were lucky enough to have won a wedding photography contest and the wonderful Melissa Diep Photography flew out all the way from Chicago.

The Cutest California DIY Wedding Ever

We have a huge crush on Joy Harmon Prouty of Wildflowers Photography and we are over the moon to share her next wedding with you. If you recall, we actually featured Rochelle and Bobby’s darling engagement shoot. Inspired By Their Love Of Children was the theme of the engagement shoot which naturally carried on to their wedding decor and was actually styled by Wildflowers Photography as well. Talk about a jack of all trades.

Rochelle and Bobby wanted their wedding to be fun, creative, personal, handmade, inexpensive and a theme based upon all things childlike. They also firmly believed that it should be a day celebrating their love for God and their childlike joy in waiting on His timing in bringing the two of them together.

From Wildflowers Photography on the creative touches of the day:

Pinwheels made out of children’s book pages, paper chains, painted cardboard clouds, quilts hanging as backdrops, hundreds of old time candies, paper flowers, chalkboard artwork, cupcakes topped with fruit loops, gummy worms and sprinkles, a dinner catered by an in & out truck, a cotton candy machine, multicolored paper crowns, handmade boutonnieres with kites colored by my Gracie, paper “leaves” cut from an old Cinderella storybook and a lollipops, 20 pairs of converse sneakers and one fantastic hand made swing set.

Sweeter Than Honey California Wedding

From start to finish this wedding is the bees knees. You are literally going to go gaga over all the juicy details that Sara and Brian have in store for you. Effortlessly captured by the incredibly talented Mi Belle Photography who always seems to amaze us with their over the top weddings. The event and design are seriously beautiful thanks to Amber Events and wait until you see the florals, they are to die for. Peony & Plum Floral Design hand painted vintage milk cartons to give it that extra added touch.

Sit back relax and enjoy some a truly sweet wedding and be sure to read on for Sara shares with us this masterpiece came together.

The antique Cameo was my Great Grandmas. When she was alive I would look in stare at that cameo, I thought it was and is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. My Great Grandma passed away when I was a senior in high school, and ever since then I dreamed about wear her cameo on my wedding day. That day my grandma brought it, the box in the picture is actually the original box she received the cameo in. It meant the world to me to wear something of her’s with such meaning to me- made me feel that she was by my side on our special day.

From the Bride:
Brian and I meet in college across a parking lot and hit it off from the start. Once, we were engaged the planning began. I knew I wanted a outdoor/rustic wedding, like the ones you see in the wedding magazines. But, I was fearful I would  not be able to pull it altogether. When we meet Amber we totally hit it off and knew she got the vision of the wedding. She got us in touch with our amazing vendors and we were able to pull off a great day.

Up to the month before the wedding, I still was not sure that it all would look put together. The week before when I saw my dress, the honey jars, the chalkboards, the flowers, and linens, I could breathe knowing the day would look amazing. The theme of Bees evolved over the weeks before the wedding through my mom and I (Both of us are teachers so creativity and ideas are always within our conversations), we thought honey “bee sweet take one” and”Eat drink and Bee married”.

Throughout the wedding planning process etsy became an obsession, thus the vintage milk carrier that held our wishing cards, tree stump ring holder, and the wood signs in the front of the venue. When the day came, everything was perfect and I was calm.

Brian and I had a Blast ! Everything came together in a rustic/elegant manner in our flowers, signs, drinks (vodka lemonade),dress, and venue. All of our friends had a blast and danced the night away and we only get great reviews about the day. At the end of the night Brian and I got in the limo to go to the Lagham, and it was pure silence. We started to laugh, we both were soo exhausted and happy (all at the same time), we could not believe how amazing everything was and how perfect it came out-Truly was the greatest day of my life!

Thanks Amber, Mi Belle Photography, and Peony & Plum Flowers, we could not have pulled it off without all of you! xoxo- Sara

Disney Pixars Up The Wedding

Before we start, let’s back it up a bit … if you recall, we posted Wildflowers Photography, Pixar’s Up Inspired Engagement Shoot. Take a look by visiting here! Long story short, Pete Docter and Jonas Rivera (writer and producer of the movie UP!) sent Lynnette and James a customized hand drawing based on them and a little note about how much they loved their engagement photos. The photo is below! Pretty amazing…right?

From Joy of Wildflowers Photography on Pixar calling her!

Yay to Wedding Chicks for being so rad and helping guide these photos up to the big head honchos. Such a rad thing that they took interest in the couple and Pixar even called me to say how much they loved the photos.
Joy. To see more photos of the wedding please click here.

From Lynnette the bride on their wedding:

After 8 years of growing in love James and I decided to invite our closest friends and family to celebrate our marriage and everyone in our lives who brought us together. It was as much about our friends and family as it was about us. We were engaged in our favorite vintage photo booth at the Musee Mechanique in San Francisco, so we knew from the beginning that we had to have a photo booth at the wedding and everyone had a great time taking photos in it!

We wanted the wedding to be unique, personal, intimate and beautiful which it turned out to be all of those things! We wanted every aspect to represent “us” from the handmade save the dates and invitations to the picnic blankets and baskets we used in lieu of chairs at the ceremony. We had one of our best friends perform the ceremony which meant so much to us. It was so special saying our own self written vows and “crossing our hearts” to love each other rather than saying “I do”.

On their wedding inspiration:

Lynnette and Jame’s wedding was loosely based on our favorite Pixar movie “UP”! Some fun items that they included was picnic baskets, grape soda, a painted mailbox and a few balloons!

They had help from family and friends along the way to make this incredible day come alive. They made their save the dates and invites with help from their moms. Lynnette and her Mom made the entire dessert bar based on the adorable custom cake topper from lollipopworkshop on Etsy. We love the use of vintage hankies to make an adorable bunting backdrop. Everything came together and looks quite amazing.

If you are not looking to have a DJ you might want to see if you can borrow sound equipment from friends who also helped set up a iPod DJ station!

Yellow, Blue & Red All Over Wedding Details

Jesi Haack is is beyond magnificent! Her wedding design and event planning skills are seriously off the hook. Sara and Michael wanted to do something bright, fun and personal. Read on to see how Jessie’s vision came to life.

Watermelon red. Vibrant blue. Sunshine yellow. The color combo alone is enough to flip me out! So, of course, Carissa from JL Designs and Melody from Sweet and Saucy Shop had to be along for the ride. The amazing girls at Posh Paperie really started the whole concept with their amazing invitation design! They really wanted it to be fun, different, and impacting while still capturing a classy and beautiful environment. This wedding is also a perfect example of how to distract from the sometimes difficult carpets and drapes of certain venues. The white chiavari chairs and white dance floor made the hugest difference to take your eye away from the abrupt colors of the venue!

Posh Paperie , Jesi Haack Weddings , Sweet and Saucy Shop are some of the best Orange County wedding vendors. They are preferred vendors and proud sponsors of The Wedding Chicks.

Purple Fairytale Wedding

I know we have seen a lot of Alice in Wonderland shoots, but this one has a purple spin and we know you all love purple. So we had to share. (; I’m also a sucker for a Rivini Gown.

Read on to hear from the creative team!
A darling “Welcome to our Wonderland” sign hung from a tree in the entrance of the garden. The sign was created using hand white-washed wood that was laser etched with Victorian graphics.

Lindsey Luxa of Dragonfly Custom Design created the invitation suite. Once opened, an antique pewter key gives you a hint that you are in for something magical. Lindsey nestled the beautiful invitation in a silk box constructed of deep purple and iridescent green silks. The body of the invitation was set on a deep purple silk pad with a layer of iridescent green silk, natural fiber paper and dark purple paper. To further tie it into Alice in Wonderland, she used subtle clocks and teapot imagery. Guests are also reminded, “Don’t be late for a Very Important Date”.

A garden tea party underneath a rooftop peppered with manzanita branches, crystals and orchids is right up my alley. For our Alice in Wonderland Photo Shoot, we were so inspired by our environment that we decided to bring the natural elements of the garden not only onto the table but above the table as well. In addition to our organic chandelier, we created an natural structure made of driftwood, intense purple hydrangea clusters and ivory roses paved along the edge. For our charming setting, we scoured all over Miami to find unique vintage tea sets. Mixing and matching sets adds so much character to a table – perfect for a bohemian chic vibe. To top it off, we set an antique pendulum clock indicating the table number for that Alice in Wonderland touch.

Eco Friendly Wedding Ideas

Here are some lovely eco friendly wedding tips and tricks form The Good Life Special Events! If you are DIY bride are looking for a more eco conscience wedding ideas you must read on.

Our inspiration: Vintage print press blocks were our primary inspiration for styling this woodsy design in a tropical setting. The intention was to give brides and grooms a glimpse into a sweet and unique woodland wedding soiree in coastal Southern California. By playing with more muted tones of moss, khaki, and chocolate, we kept the look of this luncheon wedding reception lush but brought in bright and cheery pops of color with the gold brocade napkins and bright pink button flowers in our apothecary jars.

DIY: It’s amazing what you can do with moss and twigs! We filled our apothecary jars with cushiony moss and smooth river stones and stood pink button flower branches and twigs upright as if they were growing up from the bottom of the jars. The result was a charming and whimsical centerpiece. We also filled two wooden trays with the same moss and spelled out JOY and LOVE with our vintage print press blocks for an unexpected touch.

Whimsical touches: Momental Designs whipped up some lovely paper goods that emitted that true woodland feeling. With velvet chocolate ribbon, hand painted menus and place cards, and a gorgeous watercolor table number, our bride and groom oohed and aahed at the finishing touches.

The attire: Our gorgeous bride stunned in a vintage gray frock from Queue – we wanted to style her and our groom a little differently to showcase alternative wedding wear options. The ruffles, her sash, and that breathtaking tone were the perfect partner to our groom’s sisal suit from Tommy Bahama.

Using your imagination: When dreaming up your wedding vision, be sure to stay true to you and your fiancè. Draw inspiration from your surroundings; this could be your home, the town you live in, or your favorite place to visit. If you love camping and hiking, pipe in bits of natural settings (like with moss or stones). If you long for the beach, use simple shell accents in your engagement party or reception details. Tying in subtle hints here and there will help to keep your wedding unique and special to you. Use your imagination and get creative with your centerpieces. Sometimes the most beautiful designs are so simple.

Elegant Beach Wedding Ideas

Who is having a beach wedding?

Here are some elegant beach wedding ideas that Joy de Vivre Wedding Coordination in Santa Barbara shared with us. We love the incorporation of succulents and drift wood are ohh so gorgeous. Below are some inspirational tips that Joy shared with us so that you can incorporate these stylish ideas into your wedding decor.

From: Joy de Vivre Wedding

Nico, owner of Nico Designs and I wanted to put together a table that really highlighted the beauty of Santa Barbara. We were inspired by the beautiful coastline and the incredible views the area offers. Our color palate developed around our decision to use drift wood as the foundation for our centerpiece. Nico added succulents and moss to the driftwood, making it feel organic and natural. To keep the look clean and beachy, Nico used an all white floral palate with dried poppy pods. We added abalone shells, big pieces of white coral and blue sea glass in between the floral arrangements to glam it up.

We chose a light blue taffeta linen to mimic the ocean, paired with a steel blue silk napkin to capture the oceans darker tones. For glassware, we chose a set of complementary steel blue goblets, using a smaller wine glass for water to keep things pretty and fun. We used a mixture of gold glass and ornate silver chargers, over which we placed neat bubble glass plates that looked like water, and a gold banded bread plate. We sat the escort cards in a scallop shell bed of coral and sea glass, topping it all off with oversized orchids that Nico hand glued petal by petal!

We chose an ornate silver flatware to help keep the look sweet and romantic. We hung strings of white orchids and succulents from each corner of the natural wood chiavari chairs which we chose to mimic the driftwood. Our fabulous stationary designer, Tracy Lazaro of Lazaro Designs made the cutest favors, complete with urchin shell and pearl decorated boxes. The invitations, escort cards, and table numbers were all printed on blue paper that matched our table linen. To keep them elegant, yet beachy, Tracy used a ornate font and added beach shells and pearls by hand.

During the process of the shoot, we decided to try out two looks: one with a fabric canopy over the table and one without. Lani from LBPS Events created an amazing sheer fabric canopy over the table from which he hung an amazing sea shell chandelier that Nico handmade! Our awesome photographer Tim Halberg literally worked until the sun went down to get all these amazing shots. KariAnn, the owner of the Santa Barbara Beach Clubwas kind enough to allow us to shoot on her breathtaking property, which she frequently rents out as a vacation rental for weddings.

San Diego By Carter & Cook Event Co.

I am super excited to share with you a darling wedding that Carter & Cook Event Co. shared with us. It is a total show stopper. Filled to the brim with charming details, just how you like it. Read on because Carter & Cook Event Co. spills the beans on all the juicy details.

The wedding theme was Up, up, up and Away! Their engagement pictures were taken with lots of heart balloons, and they wanted to carry this theme into their wedding. See the Engagement Session Here.

Liz and Rich were married at the The Darlington House in La Jolla, California. I have passed by it personally many times and can vouch that it is an adorable place to get married. On that note if you are throwing around destination wedding ideas, La Jolla is one to add to the list of possibilities. Delightful beach town, full of activities for out of town guests. Not to mention there are a ton unbelievable wedding vendors right at your fingertips.

Speaking of unbelievable wedding vendors, he and she photography are the masterminds behind the lens of Liz and Rich’s wedding.

Liz and Rich are quite the creative duo. Liz came up with so many of the ideas, and the adorable groom got to creating!

They handmade dozens and dozens of fabric pendants to hang throughout the grounds of the The Darlington House. Rich and Liz also created a beautiful ribbon back drop for the ceremony. Imagine guests having to walk through a wall of ribbons to get their seats. Such a clever idea!

Another great idea that I think you might like was that each bridesmaid carried her own balloon down the aisle for the ceremony. Such a cute touch, and a creative way to save money on bouquets! The bridesmaid dresses were perfect for the color scheme for the day. Dresses can be found at Anthropologie.

Each guest’s seat had a cone filled with dozens of colorful and homemade pom-poms to throw as the two newlyweds ran down the aisle.

The tables had a colorful, eclectic mix of vases and wildflowers to fit the playful wedding mood. Modern Bouquet did a fabulous job on those, and Liz’s bouquet. Such bright and cheery colors!

A colorful candy bar was filled with fun sweets and cotton candy. Another table was full of red velvet cupcakes, the father of the bride’s homemade chocolate chip cookies, and hot air balloon shaped sugar cookies. Their guests enjoyed the variety and ability to pick and choose favorites.

Running with the Up, up, up and Away theme Liz and Rich also wanted to have a pinata at the wedding, so the groom, Rich, handmade a colorful paper mache hot air balloon pinata for reception. It was so much fun to watch the two of them give it a whirl. The pinata broke and was filled with dozens of tooth brushes and tooth paste in honor of the brides grandfather “Doc”. They also felt it appropriate as they severed many sweets during the afternoon reception.

Despite the rain forecast, the weather held off perfectly. The guests lined the streets and waved the handmade ribbon wands, as the two newlyweds ran off to their getaway car, it began to pour. Talk about perfect timing!

budget friendly wedding

The entire bridal party looks incredibly cutting-edge. The bridesmaid’s wore heather gray dresses from Target, over mustard tee’s from forever 21. For that extra pop the girls wore kelly green tights. Also from forever 21.

The groomsman’s outfits were super simple. A basic fresh white dress shirt paired with black slacks. The key to the outfit is the kelly green suspenders purchased from Amazon.

I love all the hues of greens and yellows used in the floral arrangements. Splendid Sentiments and Designs did a stellar job. Especially on the bridal bouquet, filled with billy buttons, yellow tulips and other spring floral delights. This yellow and green bouquet is not only gorgeous but incredibly stylish.
