Boutwell Ten Year Anniversary Wedding

We can all say that in high school we imagined where our life would be in ten years. Will you be married to your high school sweet heart? Will you have kids? Will you be a fabulous wedding photographer and run a Totally Rad business? In the Boutwell’s case the answer is yes, yes and yes. After ten-years of marriage, two precious babies and a whole lot of love, we are happy to share with Chenin and Doug Boutwell’s ten year anniversary wedding.

Artistically captured by Hugh Forte Photography and stylishly designed by Amanda, In The Now Weddings and Events. To see more you simply must peruse the entire gallery by clicking here.

From Amanda, In The Now Weddings and Events

I was blown away and totally honored when Chenin approached me about designing her event for her and Doug’s 10 year vow renewal. She told me up front how similar she thought our styles were- and she was right! We both tend to lean towards clean, timeless looks with a little twist of modern, but never losing the romantic vibe that should always mingle at events. We started with a semi-masculine color palette [which is always my fave- and Chenin is the same way] of poppy orange, peach, gray, and natural greens.

We also created a “focal point” from the mantle area, creating a custom cover that hung over the existing stone structure; making the site look just-built for the event [my favorite!!]. Every detail was picked by Chenin and Doug by hand- and I truly could not love more how everything came together! This was a group effort, a labor of love, and one of the funnest events I’ve ever been a part of designing. And on the day of the event- magic was in the air! Truly a beautiful, flawless, tear-filled event!

Since 85% of the guest count [maybe more, even] were in the wedding industry, we kept pushing ourselves to find details that would be enjoyable, gorgeous and fun for this crowd to be a part of! Oversized pillows in gold sequin and colored textures, along with custom monogrammed ones, filled our ceremony area [turned-dance-floor, turned-lounge-area] with color and personality.

A bourbon tasting bar was enjoyed by nearly ALL the male guests at the party, a true Doug touch! We custom printed “thank you” notes from Chenin and Doug onto their cocktail napkins so that each guest would remember how thankful the couple is for them.

Since she isn’t into big, formal, fancy arrangements, we knew that the nature-inspired venue would lend itself well to using greens abundantly in her centerpieces. That’s where Megan from Honey and Poppies came in- her textural genius with foliage is something that I feel has no competition in our area. So, she was an easy match for this event! Chenin knew this party would be an intimate event, so we planned for one long seated dining table with strung patio lights above for ambiance. We finished the neutral textured linen with a flashy gold runner for pop!

Assigning the place settings made the party feel even that much more personal- so we took the opportunity to use vinyl stickers of their names that were adhered right to the guests’ plate rim. A gray paper menu wrapped the plate and sat on top of a warm orange napkin to add just enough color to this muted palette. My favorite part was likely the play on ivory and white- something we don’t see nearly enough of [and I looove it when people combine the two at events!!]. Chenin’s event was also one of the FIRST to use these farm chairs [brand new to Signature Rentals for the 2012 season]; a great hint of rustic without giving off a “tired” vibe.

Vineyard Wedding At Justin Vineyards & Winery

Justin Vineyards in Paso Robles is one of those locations that you can count on for an exquisite vineyard wedding. Offering an elegant wine-country style wedding  amidst some breathtaking vineyards. Add in some beautiful florals by one of our Hand-Picked wedding vendors April Flowers and you are guaranteed to have a stunning event. See more of this Justin Vineyards wedding in the full gallery. Captured by William McKee. Be sure to check out more beautiful vineyard wedding by clicking here.

From The Bride On Justin Vineyards & Winery
Our wedding planning happened pretty easily. Jeff and I were living on the East Coast when we met several years ago. Over Christmas vacations, we would travel back to Los Angeles (where I grew up) to visit my parents and escape to the sunshine and warmth. It quickly became an annual tradition of ours to drive up to the Central Coast for wine tasting and relaxation, which is where we first fell in love with Justin Vineyards. When we arrived at Justin for the first time, the grounds blew us away. The location is secluded and peaceful – not only an escape from the big city, but even escape from the small towns in the area! It was a dream and when we went saw it we both remarked what a lovely spot it would be for a wedding. A few years later after Jeff proposed, we quickly knew that Justin would be our spot.

After selecting the location, the vendors were next up. I scoured website and blogs looking for inspiration for my own wedding and trying to match vendor styles with my own. I found April Flowers after coming across a blog that presented a wedding that I fell in love with. The flowers had a sophisticated yet rustic elegance, which was exactly what I wanted. The use of different textures and styles created depth and individuality and I knew then that April is who I wanted.

From The Blog on Her Wedding Vendors

William McKee the photographer was also instrumental in making our day so special. I found the photographer from the same blog where I found April. After several phone conversations and our engagement shoot, William quickly felt more like a friend and helped the day to feel so relaxed. Also, his work is so beautiful that we’re still having trouble deciding which ones to put into a book!
Niki and Jonnell of Events Redefined brought the whole thing together seamlessly. I had several vendors remark how thorough and well-planned everything was. They completely took the weight off my shoulders and made the day stress-free. Overall, we wanted our wedding to be a small and simple rustic wedding at twilight. (In fact, our wedding had only 35 people total, including us!) It was important to me to personalize our big day by handcrafting a large share of the decorations. My mom, bridesmaid, and I spent many summer evenings making burlap wreaths while drinking wine and enjoying girly conversation. Also, I’m a lace girl and looked for ways to incorporate it into the wedding. While not overtly obvious, there were lace-like details on the strung paper doilies around the cocktail/dancing tent and in the wooden clothespin decorations used on the cupcake table.”

Crafty Fun Caballos Ranch Wedding

It may be the middle of winter, but that will not stop us from sharing a litte more bright and colorful prettiness with you. This time we are headed for San Luis Obispo, California; home to one of our favorite Hand-Picked florists April Flowers. This top notch floral designer is responsible for that beautiful bouquet above and all the sweet and lovely flowers at this crafty fun Caballos Ranch Wedding. You can see so much more from  Samuel Potter in the full wedding gallery by clicking here.

From the bride….
As soon as Tim and I saw the Flying Caballos Ranch portrayed on a wedding blog, we knew it was where we’d get married.  We booked it before we even saw it in person!  With most of our family travelling from out-of-state, we knew we wanted to maximize time with them, so we booked the ranch for the whole weekend so our intermediate family could stay on property with us.  We invited all the out-of-town family to a casual rehearsal barbeque on Friday night as well as a brunch on Sunday morning.  It all turned out so well! Everyone had such a fun time together.
Planning was actually a lot of fun!  It’s kind of amazing to look back and see how it all just came together!  We wanted a fun, festive, this-is-us feeling to exude from the moment our guests stepped on the ranch.  I think we achieved hat through all the crafty projects we worked so hard on – the bunting flags, hand-made napkins, yarn-wrapped wine bottles, burlap table runners.  My Mom was so amazing – she made the embroidered table numbers and the sock monkey cake toppers as well as revamping her wedding veil so I could wear it; that was so special to me.  We carefully chose all of the music to reflect our personalities and were lucky enough to find a fantastic local rock/blues band play at cocktail hour.  We bought all of our wine from the winery where we got engaged in Sonoma. I whole-heartedly believe the whole event wouldn’t have come together without all the help from our family and friends in the days leading up to the big day. And our vendors!  They were all just fabulous!  It was so fun to work with each of them.  They totally ‘got’ us and made very helpful suggestions to help make our day so special.  We live in bustling San Francisco and it was so refreshing to go to San Luis Obispo every other month and enjoy the laid-back attitude and beauty of the area.  Sure there were hiccups during the planning process and, of course, on the actual day, but we were just so happy to finally get married. And to make those vows in such a special place.  It was truly our dream wedding!

Modern Rooftop Wedding At Pasadena Museum of California Art

We have super fun, modern playful wedding for you. Even better they used a few of our free printables to make their special day even more fantastic. The theme was,”Up In The Clouds.” Of course you need to have your wedding as high up as possible if that is your theme. So, The Pasadena Museum of California Art seems like such a natural choice.

As you can see, everything is simple and modern keeping with the up in the clouds theme. Bridesmaid in bright sky blue dresses, floral arrangements popping with color and a very clever way to portray the sun and clouds and the reception. This Modern Rooftop Wedding was captured by Adrienne Gunde. You can see all the photos in the full wedding gallery by clicking here.

From The Bride:

While planning the wedding, I adored all the wedding creativity I saw on wedding blogs, in particular, Wedding Chicks. We pored over the DIY & Downloads section and were tickled when we came upon the perfect Save the Dates for our wedding: the Airplane Save the Dates. We loved the retro vibe of the customized the Airplane Save the Dates to our wedding colors. To save money, we e-mailed the Save the Dates to our guests.

We wanted our wedding to pop with happy, bold colors. We love color, and our color palette began with a subdued blue and green (more specifically, Mint and Deep Ocean, according to Wedding Chicks color palette for our electronic Save the Dates) and ballooned to include sunshine yellow, hot pink, and bright orange. We also could not resist using varying shades of blue and green throughout the wedding.

The escort cards (printed on cloud address labels) and cheery yellow billy balls sprouted from beds of cotton “clouds” which filled a wooden box that adorned our escort card table.

We found a woodblock print of a cloud, which inspired our invitations. The fun customized invitations featured woodblock print clouds designed by our stationer Papercake Designs and our interpretation of the PMCA rooftop. The RSVP cards gave guests two options: “OH YES. can’t wait.” or “OH DEAR! can’t make it.” The invitation sets were mailed in sunshine yellow envelopes, and we used a typewriter font to print out each guest’s name/address to give our invitations more of a fun, retro feel.
Our amazing wedding coordinator Uyen Nguyen of Sassy Girl Weddings & Events worked with us and with our other vendors to design and incorporate cloud details into the wedding. We had loads of fun with our theme.

Eric crafted the hanging clouds floating over the guests at the rooftop reception. There were individual clouds as well as clusters. To create the hanging clouds, Eric magnified varying cloud designs from our invites, pasted the images on foam board, cut the edges to resemble clouds, and attached each ensemble to fish wire. We interspersed the hanging clouds with yellow lanterns that were an interpretation of the sun.

The PhotoBooth Sign! We printed out the freebie from the Wedding Chicks website, pasted the sign on foam board, and propped it up on a striped green tray.

Owl Love You Wedding

Thanks to the lovely ladies at Sarah Houston Couture for sharing these Owl Love You Wedding ideas with us. Merging Fashion with some sophisticated wedding ideas that are totally doable. Read on to see how this fantasy was brought to life by Electric Blonde Entertainment and Events along with some obviously talented Canadian wedding vendors.

To see more owl wedding ideas along with the latest wedding fashions from Sarah Houston Couture be sure to click here.

The theme for the shoot, “Owl Love You Forever”, was inspired by the owl fashion accessory craze. Our goal was to create a color palette that married fall and winter colors, bridging the gap between the seasons. We used traditional fall items in the shoot, like pumpkins for the centerpieces, and brought in the winter season by wrapping our model in a cozy fur and using balls of fuzzy grey yarn to display table numbers. The palette consisted of soft greys and plums, vibrant rusts and oranges, a rich mocha, and a hint of nude

The birdseed pine cone favors were made using peanut butter on pine cones and then rolling them in birdseed – very budget friendly.

The root beer floats were made in mismatched mason jars with retro looking root beer and paper straws. Adding rum or whiskey would make this a delish signature cocktail and the froth on the top adds a dreamy cloud-like texture to the photos.

We styled our gorgeous model Hillary in two gowns by Sarah Houston. The first, {River}, brought a winter vibe with a hand stitched skirt that reminded us of icicles and snowflakes. The second {Willow} was a lace dress with a more laid back, vintage feel. Our bride completed our owl theme with a feather headpiece and a statement owl ring.

This guest book is a must see. A genius idea by Electric Blonde Entertainment and Events.

For the guestbook, Beet&Path designed five different owls, which I then cut and pasted into a collage on a large canvas. The idea here was that guests would arrive, find a photo of themselves in a box, then cut and paste their face onto the owl of their choice – a fun alternative to the traditional guestbook.

Movie Colony Hotel Wedding

You can always count on Palm Springs for a stylish wedding. Amy and Ethan had their ceremony at the Elvis Honeymoon Hideaway and then headed to the Movie Colony Hotel for their wedding reception.

Keeping everything super Palm Springs, they had an Elivis impersonator as a DJ and as you see, some very stylish retro invites. All designed by the bride. After guests danced the night away, they were treated to custom doughnut boxes from Dough a Deer that matched their wedding stationery. Nothing like a sweat treat to end the night.

McCormick Home Ranch Wedding

McCormick Home Ranch Wedding

McCormick Home Ranch is an incredible venue, perfect for a bride and groom looking for a backyard wedding feel. Jessica and Kevin had a specific vision in mind for their wedding and pooled their family resources to help bring this vision to life. The groom’s dad created their invitations and all of the signs used at the wedding. Jessica and her mom sewed the table runners for the reception.

Every last detail was considered – even down to the table name holders on the wine bottles, created specially by a friend and shaped into a perfect “J” and “K”. Guests were treated to lawn games (and prizes!) and BBQ. Serious cuteness that was captured by Jenna Marie Photography. Be sure to see more of this McCormick Home Ranch Wedding in the full wedding gallery.

McCormick Home Ranch Wedding

McCormick Home Ranch Wedding

Jessica and Kevin did something during their ceremony that you might want to take note of – a love letter ceremony. Both of them wrote one another a love letter, sealed it and, during the ceremony, each placed their sealed letter into a box along with a bottle of wine. The box was then nailed shut by both of their fathers. The box is to be opened on their 25th wedding anniversary.

Modern Wedding Centerpieces

Event Design and Coordinator Lindye Galloway Events was all about designing a tablescape filled with shapes and color. Creating the perfect modern wedding centerpieces for the a funky, outside-the-box-bride. Read on to hear more details from Lindye.

Be sure to see more modern wedding ideas in the full gallery that was captured by Katie Neal Photo.

The tablescape was all about shapes and color! The modern wood table was donned with a yellow and orange patterned runner and funky white rectangle vases lining the center. Instead of putting flowers in the mouth of the vase, Lindye decided to put flower bunches in the vase’s rectangle holes for a unique look. The table was then filled with delicious food…. seared sea scallops with lemongrass wasabi, chilled tropical soup of mango, pineapple, and mint with a chili-honey drizzle, and finally, cake. Yum!

For the ceremony Lindye Galloway Events built an alter piece that played with shapes. The structure was a tall step-like figure and was topped off with dozens of octagon tiles to give it dimension and interest. The ceremony space was completed with a fun patterned runner and benches on each side.

Desert Botanical Garden Wedding

The desert is home to the agave century plant, which traditionally blooms after 100 years. Our next couple chose this desert plant as a symbol of their love. The plant is featured throughout the garden, and even portrayed in Chihuly sculptures at the garden entrance. The plant was referenced in the vows and displayed on printed material throughout the event, as well. We love when a theme is carried throughout the wedding.

The bride shared so much more with us about this desert wedding so be sure to read on. You can also view the entire wedding gallery by clicking here. All of this desert beauty was captured by Hollye Schumacher Photography.

Guests were given small white bells to ring as the couple walked down the aisle during the recessional. The bells featured tags tied with twine, and said “RING ME!” How sweet of the guests to ring in the newlyweds.

After the ceremony, guests picked up prickly pear margaritas and wandered through the desert pathways to Boppart Courtyard. The courtyard featured bright coral tablecloths on high-top tables, tied with burlap ribbon and topped with small arrangements of succulents.

Guests found their names and table assignments hanging with twine strung between a set of agave stalks Marney’s parents had carefully collected, which continued the theme of the century agave plant. The tags were hand-written by the bride on kraft card stock tags with white ink, so very lovely.

Guests sat in shabby chic white chairs at tables covered in natural green tablecloths. The centerpieces were 8″ x 8″ dark-stained boxes filled with coral peonies, purple lisianthus, yellow genista, flower shaped succulents, yellow & purple freesia, green viburnum, ladies mantle and purple lilac with floating candles highlighting throughout. Each box was wrapped with twine.

Tables were identified by cities Marney and Booth had lived in (Florence, Honolulu, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Chicago, etc). The city names were hand-written by Marney’s artistic cousin Michael in white lettering on kraft card-stock. Place settings were clean and crafty. A kraft menu (designed and printed by Marney) featured the agave logo hand-stamped at the top, and tucked inside a crisply folded white cotton napkin tied with twine. Marney’s mother cut rosemary from her herb garden and added a sprig to each napkin.

The homemade guest book was housed in a Russell + Hazel Signature 3-Ring Binder wrapped in white patent. Inside, natural/kraft and green sheets held green and salmon-colored (empty) envelopes. Guests chose their own blessing from any of five card sets laid out on the table. The cards are hand-stamped with custom designed graphics borrowed from one of Martha Stewart’s guest book ideas. Guests wrote a response to whichever card they chose and slipped it in an empty envelope.

Marney spent a few of her childhood years in London, and has fond memories of snapping British Christmas crackers with her family. After ordering supplies to fabricate 175, she put her parents to work helping stuff the cardboard rolls with almond roca, white LED jelly rings that flash when depressed, traditional silly colorful paper hats, and light marriage jokes like “My wife and I were happy for twenty years. Then we met,” courtesy of Rodney Dangerfield. Marney’s sisters lead the guests in a celebratory “SNAP” to celebrate the couple in their toast.

Another family tradition of the bride’s family is to sing “Happy Trails” as a family member departs. To close down the evening, the band played “Happy Trails” as Marney and Booth danced by their friends and family lining the luminaria-lit pathway. Guests picked up muslin bags hand-stamped with a custom “Happy Trails” stamp designed by the bride and filled with the Binns family’s secret trail mix recipe.

The tabletop was filled with gradations of yellow, orange, and cream floral with beautiful Dahlias, Billy Balls, Kattelaya Orchids, Mukara Orchids, Succulents, and Tree Peonies. Also, adding elements of white ceramic pieces and velvet ribbon napkin treatments were a luxuriously chic touch! It is pretty much off the hook spectacular.

The playful colored and patterned tile from the Garden Terrace provided the perfect creativity this amazing modern wedding stationery. The antler heads from the lobby of the hotel presented a style that provided a unique take on the table top while incorporating the antlers within the invitations, adorable cookies, and stylish chandeliers.

Music Themed Wedding

Our next bride happens to be full time wedding photographer (Emily Porter Photo) and her wedding has some clever ideas that we know you are sure to enjoy. In fact she goes into full detail about the entire wedding here. From start to finish the theme it’s a music themed wedding. From the engagement all the way to the table decor, it was all about the tunes. Captured by Ken Kienow.

Emily had so many clever ideas for their wedding, but one we think that you will especially love is that the little eggs you see on the table are actually tea lights. Since the wedding is based around music, the idea was to have a song assigned to a table in order for them to hit the buffet. Pure Genius.

The desert table is pretty intense and there are so many more photos of it in the full gallery that you have to see. The reason why it is so intense is Emily lost over 100 pounds (amazing!) and sweets are her weakness so every time she had a craving she added it to the desert table. Another brilliant idea.

Harvest Inspired Colorado Wedding

In order to commemorate this Halloween, we thought we would throw a little fall wedding inspiration your way this holiday. Adrienne & Eric’s Colorado wedding has some splendid DIY touches and is filled with all of our favorite autumn colors. Read on to learn how they conquered their fall DIY wedding, captured by Colorado wedding photographers Eric & Moriah Photography.

Be sure to see the entire wedding gallery by clicking here.

From Adrienne, The Bride:

I love autumn and wanted the decoration and flowers to resemble fall colors with dried grasses, pumpkins and fall foliage. Eric’s mother found large pumpkins she hollowed out and filled with water, then placed heart shaped floating candles in them, she also got mini pumpkins we used as place card holders, Eric’s sister made all the name tags attached to the mini pumpkins with pins. We found Martha Stewart craft punches of oak, maple and aspen leaves and punched out of fall colored card stock to create fall leaf confetti for the tables. I contacted Palmer Flowers and they made centerpiece wreaths with curly willow, wheat, bear grass and red and green eucalyptus leaves and buds. In the center we had red and orange candles. I wanted a bouquet with lots of texture and color, I had a hand tied bouquet with lotus pods, fiddle fern, coxcomb, Leonidas roses, hypericum berries, flame calla lilies, curly willow, feathers, eucalyptus buds, bear grass and pin cushion protia, all wrapped in ivory satin with chocolate satin crisscrossed ribbon. Eric’s boutonniere had a flame calla lily, feather, and fiddle fern curl.

Orange Wedding Ideas From Tokyo

This wedding comes straight to you from Tokyo and Sutherland Kovach Studio! We know you are loving the orange Fendi open toed pumps with the adorable bows! So incredibly cute. Reiko is Japanese, from Tokyo, and Baptiste is French, from Paris. They decided that Tokyo was the best place for them to get married. Reiko goes into detail about their special day so be sure to read on. Enjoy this international delight and be sure to view the entire wedding gallery here.

From Reiko The Bride

Baptiste and I both wanted to have an elegant and chic wedding. One thing I was really insistent upon was to wear a kimono (Japanese traditional outfit). Baptiste wore one in white and I wore one in purple, after the ceremony.

When we were choosing the venue, we had a few things in mind. The first was that it had to be beautiful; secondly, it needed to provide good food (usually, in Japan, a venue itself supplies food for a wedding, using a catering service is not yet popular), and third, it needed to have a nice garden. When we visited Ogasawara Hakusyakutei, we liked the place immediately. It had a beautiful marquee where we could have the ceremony, a big garden, and a nice patio and rooftop. Plus, it has a Michelin star so the quality of food was guaranteed. We had the ceremony and reception here, and then for the nijikai (afterparty) we went to a restaurant in the Aoyama district of Tokyo.

My dress was by Catherine Regehr, from Barneys NY in Tokyo. When I found it, I knew it was the one for me. It was exactly my style, very simple and elegant, and exactly my size. I had another dress from Robert Rodriguez for the nijikai.

Originally, I’d picked different flowers for each room at the venue, but the more I thought about it, that didn’t sit right so I simplified it, using just white and green. For the dining room, I added in a few different colors – a smoky pink, a lighter green – to create more of a vintage feel, which I absolutely love.

We’d planned to make a CD with all our favorite songs for the music but three weeks before the wedding, I thought it might be nicer to have live music. Though it was very last minute, I got lucky and found a quartet. I requested my favorite classical music (mainly Bach as the Brandenburg Concerto #5 is one of my faves) and they played beautifully.

Our wedding incorporated lots of traditions, and some we changed around a bit to suit us more. In Japan, the bride usually reads a letter to her parents to express her appreciation for them in front of all the guests, but I didn’t want to make it too personal, or just between me and my parents. So, we made a slideshow of pictures starting from our childhoods and going through to the present, and including our parents’ wedding pictures. We also presented our parents with teddy bears that weighed the same as our birth weights, with our details embroidered on them.

I loved planning this wedding, and I am looking forward to celebrating again at our French wedding which will be held in Paris in October!

DIY Western Wedding With Pumpkins

Happy Saturday! We have a western DIY wedding from Nordica Photography to share with you today.

Rhett and Leah’s wedding was filled to the brim with DIY fall wedding details. The venue for the wedding was on Leah’s family property in Cache Creek, British Columbia. The wedding details were inspired by the colors of fall, and the simplicity of a typical western-Canadian ranching family. From the pumpkin carvings, to the jars of jam that were gifts to the bouquets of flowers in traditional canning jars that hung around the property, the families put a massive effort into beautiful, yet simple, details.

1960s Mad Men Theme Wedding

Susie here — also known as The Wedding Chicks programmer. You might remember my Mad Men Save the Date from earlier this year (click here to get your own customized version). I can’t believe it, but the wedding came and went on Friday, October 1! I’m here to share the details with you! Please enjoy our Mad Men Theme Wedding.

All of the amazing photos were taken by the super sweet and oh-so-talented Seattle wedding photographer, Julie Harmsen.

When we got engaged we knew our wedding wouldn’t be traditional. We wanted something fun, comfortable, and focused on our love. To come up with the theme, I brainstormed with Jocey (one half of The Wedding Chicks!). Our original venue, which actually went out of operation before our wedding, was decked out in mid-century modern furniture. We loved this look, so we chose to match it with an early-to-mid 60s Mad Men theme. I started collecting ideas by going through vintage magazines from the 1960s, like Vogue, and photo galleries from the show.

To capture the Mad Men look, I had my dress custom designed by Andrea Pitter of Pantora. Working with Andrea was so easy! I explained my vision and she took my ideas and came up with her own creative spin. I finished the look with vintage-inspired jewelry by Mercury Jane Designs on Etsy. The birdcage veil and mini hat was custom designed by Eugenia of Petit Plume, who stepped in for me very last minute and designed something 100% original! Of course the look would not have been complete without the help of Renee and Emily of Two Fishes Artistry, who gave me a high, retro updo and beautiful makeup to match.

We had planned for our wedding to be held at a rooftop venue overlooking the Las Vegas strip. We wanted the reception to feel more like a cocktail party with dancing under the stars. Six weeks before the wedding, we discovered that our venue had gone “out of operation”. Our absolutely incredible wedding coordinator, Juliet Douglas of Green Orchid Events, really came through for us in hunting down a replacement venue on such short notice. She executed and coordinated the entire wedding flawlessly. Juliet and her team were our wedding heroes! Thanks to their hard work, we landed a perfect backup venue in The Platinum Hotel a few miles off the strip. The Misora Terrace at the hotel has a breathtaking view of the Strip as well as the mountains beyond, making it a beautiful spot for the ceremony as well as the perfect spot for a party-vibe reception after sunset.

We kept the ceremony simple, and sweet, and it was such a beautiful event for us! We only invited our immediate family members to the ceremony to keep it intimate. We placed benches for the guests around our four post altar with hanging orange and white blooms and crystals. Everyone had a great seat, and we were surrounded by a warm, loving energy. Our officiant Reverend Judy Irving wrote such a touching ceremony that all of our guests loved.

At the reception, we opted for an interactive dessert station rather than a traditional wedding cake. Our floral designer, Fleuretica, along with Picture Perfect Events, came up with the clever concept of a station divided in half, with one side representing feminine, and the other masculine, joined together by a common object: a window in the middle of a shared wall. This symbolism was so perfect for marriage, but also for the Mad Men theme in creating a retro kitchen for one side, and a sleek mid-century modern bar or office for the other. They filled each space with vintage furniture and props from the 1960s. I felt like we were on the Mad Men set! Sweet and Saucy Shop provided the delicious and lovely little desserts for each side, which included mini lattice top pies and delicate french macaroons in the kitchen, and rich chocolate mousse dessert shots and chocolate dipped pecan shortbread squares in the office.

Guests were encouraged to channel Mad Men in their attire. Fleuretica put together an amazing accessory bar for us, again using vintage pieces and tons of props throughout the display. The ladies could finish off their retro look with gloves, handbags, pearls, and scarves, while the men could grab a fedora, vintage tie, and vest, amongst other items. The station also had other great details, like an old shoe shine kit and perfume bottles. This was a huge hit with our guests! We let them capture their look in photos by setting up a photo booth area with a long couch right next to the accessory bar. Our amazing photographer, Julie Harmsen, created the setup for us and provided a remote control so guests could snap their own shots. We now have hundreds of hilarious, super fun photos that we will absolutely treasure forever.

In lieu of a traditional guestbook, an aqua, vintage typewriter (do any weddings *not* have a vintage typewriter these days?) directed guests to write a note and tack it to our “office bulletin board”, as Mad Men is set mostly in the office. I also purchased an orange suitcase from the 1960s on Etsy, and used it to hold the cookie favors. The favors were made by my uber talented sister-in-law, Brigi, who matched them to the invitations I designed (look for a customizable version of my invitation coming your way soon!). We also included four popular 1960s cocktails for guests to try at the bar.

DJ Smiles Davis of the infamously awesome The Flashdance kept the party going all night long. Smiles was our dream DJ! She played a great eclectic mix of songs and kept the party vibe right where we wanted it without ever treading anywhere near “traditional reception music”. Everything you have heard about The Flashdance is true — they are the best, there is no way around it.

Lighten Films was on hand to capture the event in live action on film. We’ll share a trailer from them in a few weeks so you can see what it was like, up close and personal!

I will be sharing more details and personal stories over in Brides in the coming weeks!

San Luis Obispo Holland Ranch Wedding

Schell and Morgan got married at the Holland Ranch on the central coast in San Luis Obispo. This venue was amazing and all the details of this day fit perfectly. Morgan gave Schell a new surfboard as a wedding gift. They had homemade pies and doughnuts for dessert. The flower girl wore an orange and blue tutu. Being from Hawaii, Schell’s mom and sister performed a traditional hula dance, to add something special from home for the wedding. All of this captured by the ever fabulous Aaron Shintaku Photography.

If you recall, we actually featured Rochelle and Bobby’s darling engagement shoot. Inspired By Their Love Of Children was the theme of the engagement shoot which naturally carried on to their wedding decor and was actually styled by Wildflowers Photography as well. Talk about a jack of all trades.

Rochelle and Bobby wanted their wedding to be fun, creative, personal, handmade, inexpensive and a theme based upon all things childlike. They also firmly believed that it should be a day celebrating their love for God and their childlike joy in waiting on His timing in bringing the two of them together.

From Wildflowers Photography on the creative touches of the day:

Pinwheels made out of children’s book pages, paper chains, painted cardboard clouds, quilts hanging as backdrops, hundreds of old time candies, paper flowers, chalkboard artwork, cupcakes topped with fruit loops, gummy worms and sprinkles, a dinner catered by an in & out truck, a cotton candy machine, multicolored paper crowns, handmade boutonnieres with kites colored by my Gracie, paper “leaves” cut from an old Cinderella storybook and a lollipops, 20 pairs of converse sneakers and one fantastic hand made swing set.

Michigan Farm Style Wedding

Before we present this week’s Sweet Treats, we want to give you one last dose of wedding eye candy to get you through the weekend.

There is not a better way to kick off the weekend than a good old fashion farm wedding chalked full of funky fresh wedding details. Nicole Ladonne Photography captured this down home wedding that took place at Piccard Farm in Marne, MI.

Some fun wedding tid bits that we know you will enjoy are the tables were named after all the places the couple had traveled to together. The cake toppers were inspired by etsy but hand painted by the bride. The stamp banner on the cake were actually stamps from Kilimanjaro and Ecuador, and all places and mountains the couple has climbed. It really does not get more personal than that.

Malibu Canyon Indie Wedding

Kaitrin and Erik both live in the North East and flew to Los Angeles to be married. The wedding took place in Malibu at the “Inn of the seventh ray” which is nestled in a beautiful canyon.

The Inn is surrounded by horse ranches and bordered by a lazy creek. The weather was perfect and both the bride and groom looked amazing. The wedding colors were peach, yellow and orange. The theme was “For ever and a day.” After the ceremony, the guests dinned and danced the nigh away. For their grand exit, Kaitrin and Erik ran through a tunnel of sparklers. Love this!

Thanks to Juan Turcios Photographer who captured this lovely event.

Palm Springs Wedding At The O’Donnell House

Anna and Brandon live in snowy Canada and wanted to have a wedding filled with sunshine. The obvious choice would be Palm Springs, where the sun is rarely shy and the skies are always blue.

They settled on The O’Donnell House for their wedding venue. What makes The O’Donnell House a little different than a boutique hotel is that offer two different large houses that you can stay in and hold your wedding and reception. Nestled against a mountainside in the heart of Old Palm Springs Village, this makes a more intimate desert wedding. Thanks to JAC Photography for sharing this desert wedding with us. Take note of all the exquisite flower designed by Luna Salomon. We especially love the anemone wedding bouquet and birch trees used as vases. Everything is simple yet elegant.

Ranch Style Wedding Overflowing With Glamour

White Haute Photography is super hot! Be sure not miss all the super glamorous details from XOXO Bride.

So of course we had to share with you Scott and Kirsten’s ranch style wedding. Below is the wedding story from White Haute. Let us just say the population of the town where the wedding was held was a whopping 18.

My first pinch was on the drive to the wedding site, a town called Parkfield, population 18.  We drove for 15 miles on a one-lane road, passing horse pastures and thousands of cattle. The hand-painted wooden signs kept us on track, but when we reached the town itself, we blinked and missed it, heading another several miles past our destination. After a few dirt roads and some frantic phone calls with one half a bar of cell service, we realized our mistake and returned to the town. When you park, you look to your left and see one half of the town, the Parkfield Lodge. Turn to your right, and the other half greets you, the Parkfield Cafe.

Now this isn’t just any old town in the middle of nowhere, it happens to be the Earthquake Capital of the World, a town with more scientific equipment monitoring the ground than anywhere else on the planet. It was definitely a unique setting, but the details really made this wedding spectacular. The groom in his custom cowboy hat and boots, the handmade leather photo guest book the couple made themselves, the rustic feel of the celebration made us feel like part of a huge family, and it was amazing to witness. Thank you to the girls at XOXO Bride for putting on such a spectacular event.

Enjoy Scott and Kirsten’s ranch style wedding!

Costa Rica Wedding From Jose Villa Photography Part I

First off we have to give a special shout out to the Groom, Akil Bennet, who happens to be a Wedding Chicks photographer in Houston, TX.

Akil wanted nothing but the best for his tropical island getaway. So, of course, he enlisted fine art wedding photographer Jose Villa to capture his Costa Rica wedding after attending one of Jose’s workshops. Besides choosing the wedding photographer Alex, the bride, planned 100% of the wedding with assistance from Tropical Occasions. She wanted Akil to be surprised with this breath taking island event.

If you are planning a Costa Rica wedding be sure to take note of the weather. There is no real summer or winter in Costa Rica and the rainy season here lasts from May to November, with the months of December through April having little to no rain and September and October being the heaviest rain period. As far as heat goes the coolest months of the year are November, December and January. The months March through May are the hottest months of the year.

Be sure to stay tuned later today we will be showcasing more of this seriously beautiful couple.

Stay tuned there will be so much more to enjoy!

Oklahoma Vineyard Wedding

Orange and Gray are oh so nice. Especially when Carl Zoch Photography is behind the lens.

Kaleb and Marilyn tied the knot at Tres Suenos Vineyards a splendid Oklahoma wedding venue. Whether you choose to have your wedding under the whispering pines or overlooking the beautiful vineyard as you can see it is a breathtaking wedding location.

Are you going to wait to lock eyes while walking down the aisle or see your partner before the ceremony?

We have come to see that many brides and grooms are moving away from the more traditional custom of waiting until the ceremony to see one another? Regardless of the setting it is a wonderfully romantic moment that your photograph will be sure to capture. Share with us what you think about this!
