Urban Romance Wedding Ideas

The team at Amber Karson Events wowed us by taking a space and created a soft, intimate romantic feeling in the heart of bustling Washington DC. They brought the outdoors in with plenty of ferns, terrariums and mixed various elements (wood, glass, metal, and greenery) into an otherwise traditional space and made it their own. Without a doubt, you know we love anything soft, pretty and full of romance.  We have to say the entire shoot is quite charming, but we are especially smitten with all the florals designed by Petals and Hedges. The hanging terrariums add such a great element. Don’t you think?

All captured by the incredibly talented Adam Barnes Fine Art Photography for the Venn Workshops. You can see more in the full gallery by clicking here and be sure to visit Green Wedding Shoes to see more of this inspirational shoot by clicking here.

From Adam Barnes:

These images were photographed while I was teaching at Venn Workshops this past April.. Styling and Coordinating by the incredibly talented ladies at Amber Karson Events.

We titled the workshop, Urban Romance. We wanted to create a soft, intimate romantic feeling in the heart of bustling Washington DC. Amber Karson events says, “Our interpretation of Urban Romance played off the idea of bringing the outdoors in with plenty of ferns, terrariums and mixing various elements (wood, glass, metal, and greenery) into an otherwise traditional space. We worked with an amazing vendor team to pull our look together.”

What is Venn?
Venn Workshops is a collaboration between Adam Barnes Fine Art Photography and Jodi Miller Photography who look to share their expertise with other photographers, in an intimate, boutique style workshop. Like the Venn diagram, we believe that a collaboration is the best way to teach, because it allows each hosting photographer to share on the strongest aspect of their business and their craft.

Elegant Rustic Wedding Ideas

Here at The Wedding Chicks we relish in sharing wedding inspiration with you. Whether it’s a  food truck wedding or how to make meringue parfaits for your dessert table. We adore it all. Needless to say we are super excited to share today’s elegant rustic wedding ideas from a few of Seattle’s finest wedding vendors.

With the brick walls and exposed beams of the fabulous Seattle wedding venue Melrose Market Studios as the background, they created a soft and romantic look all inspired by Chrissy Wai-Ching’s stunning ruffled wedding dresses. Impeccably styled by Finch & Thistle Event Design and photographed by Abbey Hepner Photography. So many more ombre dresses and rustic wedding ideas to see in the full gallery by clicking here.

From Finch & Thistle Event Design:

When Abbey contacted me about styling the shoot, I knew I wanted the flowers to be very soft and romantic to contrast with the industrial feel of the space. I created a loose, cascade style hand-tied bouquet in a soft pastel color palette with garden roses, ranunculus, orange blossom, parrot tulips and jasmine. The jasmine trailed beautifully leading the eye to the dramatic skirts of the wedding dresses and the deep pinky-red color of the jasmine’s buds also mimicked the color of the hem.

For the tabletop, I used Vintage Ambiance’s silver teapots and jugs instead of vases for the satellite arrangements and a vintage mercury glass urn for the centerpiece. A vintage lace runner was a romantic touch and didn’t hide the beautiful wood table. The flowers coordinated with the bouquet and I created small boutonnieres tied with twine for each place setting. The birch votive holders brought the outdoors inside and softened the look. The beautiful table, mismatched chairs, sofa, apple crates and silverware came from Vintage Ambiance, a NW vintage rentals service. They have a huge range of vintage furniture, props and tabletop pieces and I use them for many of my weddings.

Abbey’s assistant, Heather Dow, sewed a burlap and lace backdrop and made a rustic mason jar chandelier that completely transformed the space.

Jenny Bowker styled the models and created romantic and dramatic hair and makeup looks to coordinate with the dresses. You can check out Jenny’s video library on YouTube for lots of wonderful makeup tutorials.

As you may have guessed already, Finch & Thistle Event Design is one our Hand-Picked wedding vendors. You must visit their Hand-Picked page to see more of their stunning work.

Photographer Abbey Hepner produced the shoot and created an inspiration board inspired by one of Chrissy’s dresses in particular; a beautiful, edgy ruffled gown with a deep red hem. She then contacted Marie Jenkins, a pastry chef based in Silverdale, WA who baked a beautiful white three tiered ruffled cake that also had a red “hem.”

Amelie Wedding Inspiration

Amelie is not only a heart-felt movie, but also has a ton of  lovely wedding inspiration throughout the film. So much inspiration that The Emerics created an outdoor garden wedding vignette inspired by the film. Filled with organic elements, quotes from the film and a very specific color scheme of greens and reds. Read on to hear more details from these Las Vegas wedding photographers. Do check out more Amelie wedding inspiration in the full gallery by clicking here.

We decided on small plants as favors too because Amelie has potted plants along the windowsill of her apartment and thought it would flow nicely with the organic vibe. Since Amelie was a waitress at a cafe in Paris, we decided on a menu board instead of individual menus on the plates. In the movie you can see her handwriting the menu on glass. And just to pay further homage to the movie itself, we chose a few of our favorite quotes and hung them alongside the escort cards.

Jason and I set out to create a wedding inspired by the French movie Amelie, which is our favorite movie of all time – our daughter’s middle name is Amelie, just as an indication as to how much we love it! I began to seek out the organic elements of the movie, as well as our favorite quotes to help us set the scene for a small, intimate courtyard wedding. The movie has a very specific color scheme of greens and reds, so we kept those colors throughout the design elements.

The narrator describes Amelie early in the movie as someone who enjoyed “life’s small pleasures : immersing one’s hand in a sack of grain, cracking the crust of a crème brulée with the back of a teaspoon or skipping stones on the Canal St-Martin.” We used burlap sacks with the word, amour, over the outdoor fireplace, we also used had a vase of river rocks for guests to write wishes for the newlyweds on, and of course, creme brulee was part of our dessert table.

A lot of the pieces were thrift store finds, such as the cake table, the suitcase, and the panel with fabric strips. We simply refurbished them ourselves to match our color scheme. We had our talented friend, Sarah Barajas, make the crepe cake, raspberry tart, and creme brulee. There were a lot of DIY elements throughout the decor, as well. Jason hand-sewed the burlap sacks and the burlap “cards” flag then made stencils for the letters. I painted the small terre cotta pots green then used sandpaper to give them a distressed look. We also designed and printed our own escort cards, place cards, and quote cards. The table covering was also made by the floral artist based on the vision we had.

How Much Does A DIY Wedding Cost?

Colleen and Corey knew they wanted a romantic and intimate wedding that also showed their love of Charlotte and their southern background. While keeping true to their vision they also wanted to stay on a budget. They saved money by making almost everything themselves, scouting out pre-owned items, spray painting decor to match with the theme and baking the sweets for the dessert table. With all this do-it-yourself going on the question still remains “How Much Does A DIY Wedding Cost?”.

Lucky for us Colleen goes into a full breakdown on the costs of her diy wedding along with pretty much every detail from start to finish. You can see all the photos from this diy wedding in the full gallery by clicking here. Captured by Abigail Seymour Photography.

My bouquet was made of blush pink garden roses, snow-white dahlias, and a mixture of wildflowers from a fresh cut flower farm in Asheville, and adorned with an antique broach from my mom. To include part of Corey’s Irish heritage, we decided to incorporate a handfasting ceremony, in which our two mothers bound our hands together using lace from Corey’s mother’s wedding dress.

To fancy up our gorgeous invitations from The Aerialist Press, we punched pretty shapes out of cardstock and tied all the pieces together with bakers twine like a little package. We addressed the envelopes using faux calligraphy, in which we printed the address on the envelope in a scripted font and traced it with a metallic pen.

The Aerialist Press is one of our Hand-Picked vendors, you must visit their page to see more of their divine work by clicking here.

The ceremony programs were designed by an etsy seller, printed on recycled paper, and placed in mail holders filled with baby’s breath. We provided ceremony refreshments in the form of a “strawberry lemonade stand” complete with striped barber straws. Heart shaped lemonade labels were placed on each lemonade container and we created the “Wet your whistle and have a seat” signs by printing them on cardstock and placing them in painted frames that we already owned. The ceremony chairs were lined with baby’s breath and the altar was draped in white sheer fabric and adorned with a halo chandelier I found at Ikea. We painted large white pumpkins and surrounded them with pre-owned sparkle pumpkins to adorn the front steps of the house to be seen as the guests arrived.

The reception took place in a courtyard filled with trees that we strung with bistro lights the day before the wedding. To create the centerpieces, my sister and I spent months gathering lanterns on sale and collecting vintage green glass bottles from flea markets. We crafted the table numbers from wooden numbers and spray paint, and we used silver leaf and spray paint to turn clear glass votives into mercury glass votives. I wanted to be eco-friendly wherever possible, so I used recycled card stock for all paper products, including the guest book love letters that we tied with bakers twine to each napkin place setting.

The dessert table was my favorite part of the wedding décor, because it was both beautiful and delicious. Our mint green almond and spice cake was covered in dahlias and garden roses and topped with miniature versions of Corey, myself, and our cat Picasso purchased from an Etsy vendor. Apple pie has always been my favorite dessert, so my sister and I made apple pie pops the weekend before the wedding. My sister also whipped up some strawberry and cinnamon macarons for the lucky guests (I swear her macarons are the best in town). To satisfy the chocolate lovers, Corey and I picked up chocolate covered oreos and pretzels. Recycled card stock and our trusty paper punches were used to create the dessert table signs, which were held in place by some adorable bubble place card holders from BHLDN. We also crafted the sparkle Colleen and Corey signs hanging in the dessert table gazebo as well as the bride and groom signs on the back of our dinner chairs. To save money on flowers, we placed empty mason jars on the dessert table (as well as other locations around the venue) for the bridesmaids to place their bouquets in after the ceremony.

To save money, we made almost everything ourselves, and used as many pre-owned items as possible for décor, from the mail holders for the programs, to the baskets that held the flip flops and blankets. We also altered items that we owned to fit in with the look of the wedding, using glitter, spray paint, or card stock. Another budget saver was my agreement with the videographer whom I decided to hire in the last month before the wedding. I was very fortunate to be able to afford a fantastic videographer because he agreed to bring the cost down by sending me just the raw footage, which I could then have edited by a video savvy friend.

This should give you a good starting out point on How Much Does A DIY Wedding Cost? This just a little insight into one bride and groom’s overall expenses who saved costs by doing as many projects on their own as they could.

Hot Air Balloon Wedding Ideas

Punches of color make a wedding feel lively and youthful. That’s why we are suckers for adding yellow to any wedding theme. It effortlessly matches up with everything and anything. Looks especially snappy with a hot air ballon theme … don’t you think?  All this fun and playfulness was captured by one of our very own Hand-Picked Wedding photographers Lavender & Twine.

Be sure to read on as these central coast wedding vendors go into more detail on this playful inspirational shoot. So many many more pretty pictures to swoon over in the full gallery. You have to see a close up of this yellow cake and you will fall in love with these hot air balloon table numbers designed by Lilly & Louise.

From: Lavender & Twine.

Tenley Erin Young, named “America’s Best Floral Designer” after winning the TV Show “The Arrangement”, designed the gorgeous florals to enhance the lemon yellow used in the attire. She worked with billy balls, dusty millers, parrot tulips, hydrangea, succulents and greens. We especially love the bouquet–so unique!

Lilly & Louise took our ideas and ran with them, translating our Hot Air Balloon Wedding Ideas into the most precious invitation suite that tied everything together perfectly.

This lemon-themed shoot was inspired by a beautiful local venue, Limoneira Ranch in Santa Paula CA. It is a hidden gem, known for both their delicious lemons (a real working ranch!) and hot air balloons. It’s tucked away in the hills and when you drive up to the Ranch you drive through towering eucalyptus trees, and miles of lemon groves. The site is amazing with several wedding locations on the property, which allows each of it’s couples to customize their wedding to fit their own personal vision.

We wanted a fun and playful look, and to inspire bride’s who love a pop of color we incorporated yellow into different parts of the bride and groom’s attire. Our bride is wearing a sweet short gown by La Soie Bridal – Santa Barbara. We wanted to add a little ‘zest’ with her accessories; the sweater is from Forever 21 and the adorable satin shoes are by Nina Shoes. The bride’s birdcage veil was handmade by VVeronique Coleccion.

For the groom we stumbled upon Me and Matilda who handmade the Gingham print suspenders and tie to match the rest of our vision. We completed his look with khakis and a white shirt from Gap and penny loafers from Bass.

San Clemente Historic Cottage Wedding

As the weather warms up, a beach wedding sounds ideal. Picture the rolling cliffs and the crystal blue ocean as the backdrop to your ceremony, we can’t think of a prettier setting. Jacquie and Greg could not agree more. They chose a San Clemente cliff side camp spot for their ceremony and headed over to the Historic Cottage San Clemente for their ceremony.

Most all the details were crafted by Jacquie. Umbrellas & fans for the ceremony, mason jars for the guests’ cocktails, succulent filled window panes, burlap banners, wine barrels as cocktail tables and wooden signs directing guests to each location. She did it all with a little help from event planner Kimberly Conners. You can see all the pretty details up close in the full gallery. Photographed by Matthew Morgan Photography.

From Kimberly Conners:
Jacquie and I first met at the beginning of the year where she told me about her wedding and all the ideas she had. When she told me she was going to get married at a camp site overlooking the ocean, I was thrilled! I loved the idea. This also meant that a lot of work was to be done to transform it into a ceremony site, but I was totally up for the challenge.

There’s nothing I love more than a creative bride. Jacquie worked so hard on this wedding and all of the details that went into it. Some of those details included umbrellas & fans for the ceremony, mason jars for the guests’ cocktails, succulent filled window panes, burlap banners, wine barrels as cocktail tables and wooden signs directing guests to each location.
The weather that day was perfect for an outdoor ceremony and the ocean provided the perfect backdrop for their vows. After the ceremony, guests followed the path to the Historic Cottage where the reception was held. Everything was amazing – down to the last detail!

Jacquie is so lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful friends and family. One of her best friends, Missy, provided many of the antique jars and succulent arrangements for the wedding. They were stunning! The rest of the beautiful flowers along with the bouquets were provided by my favorite florist, Aly with the Vine’s Leaf. Jacquie also had several friends help out during the reception by making yummy desserts for the sweets table, helping with the set-up and helping to clean up at the end of the night. It was so awesome to see everyone work together to make Jacquie and Greg’s day perfect! It was such a beautiful wedding to be a part of.

All the pretty florals you see at this San Clemente Historic Cottage Wedding are designed by one of our Hand-Picked Vendors. You can see more of The Vine’s Leaf work on her Hand-Page by clicking here.

Green and Blue Wedding Ideas

Kati and Bryan envisioned a wedding that was tailored, sophisticated and accented with gorgeous flowers.  Little elements referencing their love for their favorite band (Dave Mathews) surrounded them in a tasteful fashion, and made their event very unique and personal. Read on to hear more wedding planning tips from Toledo Event Designers Elite Events and be sure to see more green and blue wedding ideas in the entire gallery captured by Mary Wyar.

If you want your Wedding Party to be in high fashion dresses, but do not want them to shell out a fortune considering renting the dresses form Rent The Runway. They are able to wear a snazzy fashionable gown at a reasonable price. Great idea …. right?

From The Bride:
How to make sure your wedding vision comes to fruition: Being aware of whom you are as individuals and as a couple is the MOST IMPORTANT part of designing your wedding. Piece together what your love story is. Look at photos of the two of you throughout your relationship and write down what you like to do together, how you fell in love and some of the greatest memories you have made. This should tell you what type of a couple you are and give you a starting point to begin gathering images and examples for your wedding designer. Use the images you have gathered to work with your event designer and coordinator to create an inspiration board that reflects not only your style but your budget as well. Take this with you for every wedding related meeting to insure your florist, cake artist and even your bridesmaids all understand exactly what you are going for.

Location:
Bryan and Kati fell in love camping at Dave Matthews Concerts. Keeping in line with how they fell in love outside, they wanted a location with an outdoor natural setting that would subtly transport their guest’s into their love story. They chose the Historic Toledo Country Club built in 1892. The gorgeous building’s large windows, wrap around porches and terrace dance floor provided guest with views of the Maumee River, an award winning golf course, perfectly manicured gardens and a night sky full of stars.

The Design:
Elite Events created a brand for the couple which subtly can be found in every detail. The custom inspiration board titled Tailored Sophistication reflected a color palette that coordinated with the exterior facade of the venue including shades of Greens, Blues, Greys and Whites. Since the couple fell in love camping at Dave Matthews Band concerts, Elite Events took inspiration from an album cover art and transcended the image into the interlocking circles you see on all the details. The circular image represents the couples joining of lives, shared love of a band, and a never ending commitment. The love story continued in other details, using quotes on straw tags and programs, naming tables after meaningful songs, and turning music sheets of the Song “Everyday” into cones that held flower petals in which guests would toss at the conclusion of the ceremony. Paying tribute to the couples favorite past times, the ring bearers dressed like golfers, the flower girls resembled ballerinas and the couple’s dog carried the rings around his collar just as he did during the proposal.

The Reception Décor:
Event Designer Nikki Wolfe incorporated circular details into the table décor utilizing 3D marshmallow white confetti accent linens that complimented the sophisticated Indigo Lamoure linens alternating throughout the reception area.
3 floral designs were created to keep the guests eyes moving throughout the room.
Look 1: A Modern Touch: moss spheres wrapped in white calla lilies and placed in clear square vases
Look 2: A Simple Statement: Dendrobium Orchids playfully emerging from square beds of wheat grass
Look 3: An Understated Elegance: 3 cylinder vases varying in height displayed submerged Cymbidium Orchids, overflowing large Phalaenopsis Orchids, and sprays of newly budded Dendrobium Orchids.

Fun with Food:
Jane’s Cakes created a 3 tier cake inspired by the bride’s ceremony & reception dresses which was topped with a cake topper molded to resemble the couple and their pets. Out of town guests were offered goodie bags filled with Apple butter and Pepper butter made from ingredients grown in the groom’s family garden. The couple invited guests to enjoy their grandmother’s homemade cookies and kept the party going into the late hours of the night with a Nacho station in honor of the grooms favorite late night snack.

African Safari Wedding Ideas

Away from busy streets of a tourist city, there is one truly exceptional place that makes you want to stop the time and enjoy the moments of tremendous experience. It is the residence of Ms. Bubbles – a gorgeous African elephant with the big ears, big trunk, big feet, and also with a big heart.

Elephants in many countries around the world symbolize patience, wisdom, longevity, the power of family and happiness. Those are important ingredients to every recipe of happy marriage. All beautifully photographed by Pasha Belman Photography. See so many more African Safari Wedding Ideas in the full gallery.

From: Pasha Belman Photography

The vision that the vendors collaboratively had about the shoot was to create simple but at the same time original in design wedding inspiration of mostly earthy tones and elements, with slight color accents of soft orange, light blue and turquoise. The bride looked stunning in her off-white wedding gown during the ceremony part of the shoot. The dress was very simple with just an accent piece on her waist.

The bride changed into less formal gown for the relaxed after-the-ceremony part of the shoot. Soft off-white tones of her gowns helped stylists to achieve natural simplicity that they had in mind. Her hand-made hairpieces with natural elements such as feathers and leaves and elegant jewelry with rustic metallic accents became the key elements to the bride’s looks. Her gorgeous hair definitely added a pop of color to the photos. Braiding was essential in providing more authentic look. Our hair stylist wanted to add a little wild touch to her hair and emphasize the wildness of safari experience. She also added a touch of tribal character to the bride’s make-up, which made her look quite unique. A little pop of color on the lips – and the look is complete.

The floral design was quite unique in nature. Bride’s bouquet had bamboo handle with dry natural element symbolizing the dryness of safari desert and with long feathers representing the wild side of the safari love affair. Freshly cut bamboo accents helped to form a structure for the altar. Palm leaves and candles created cozy atmosphere during the ceremony. Elegantly decorated bamboo chairs and the dinner table covered with animal print linens became a perfect setting for the romance.

Since we first layed on eyes on this Northern California wedding venue we have fantasized about having a Nestldown Wedding. A magical and whimsical forest nestled in the Redwoods on acres of lushly landscaped property, this exceptional retreat is located just minutes away from the heart of the Silicon Valley. Enjoy Nancy and Anthony’s intimate Nestldown Wedding captured by Tinywater Photography. You can see more of this magical wedding venue by clicking here.

Nancy wished for a wedding that was the opposite of a hotel ballroom wedding, opting for a mix of elegant, romantic, and vintage meets nature inspired wedding. She had an idea of a whimsical dream in a magical forest, and I think the Nestldown setting matched her vision perfectly! The reception dinner took place at one long family style table, where lush green centerpieces matched the beauty of the towering redwood trees, ferns, secret waterfalls, open fields, and crisp lakes on the property.

Nancy and Anthony opted for a dessert table full of sugary sweets for their guests in addition to their smaller wedding cake. How much do you love the three-tiered glass stands with the assortment of tarts atop the rich damask linen?

Seaside San Diego Wedding

With all this winter talk, we thought we would throw a little sunny seaside San Diego wedding your way. Kari and Matt’s La Jolla Scripss wedding was filled to the brim with some incredibly vibrant wedding details that we know you are going to love. Including some of the cutest wedding place mats we have ever seen.

This stylish seaside wedding did not happen on its own, it took a whole lot of talented vendors to make it super fabulous. Luxe Events coordinated and styled, Joielala Photographie snapped all these pretty pictures and 10.11 Makeup made everyone look pretty. Be sure to see this entire Seaside San Diego Wedding in the full wedding gallery.

From Luxe Events

Kari has an extremely fresh sense of style.   She is drawn to vibrant colors and modern patterns.  So I set out to design a wedding layered in colorful bold patterns.  We let go of traditional ideas of what “matches” and became playful with the design choices.     I’d call the wedding design “Layered Chic”. Once we embraced this concept the plan fell into place.  We picked three fabulous patterns that would complement each other.  We brought the patterns to center stage through unique wedding elements. When we could not find a charger that was just the right color or pattern I came up with the idea to create a stylish placemat.   Enlisting Brightly Designed to take our pattern decor to the next level, she designed super-cool placemats including quotes from favorite songs.  Each table had one of the three patterned placemats.  In addition we made paper vase wraps for the centerpieces.   While we loved the blue and green colors I felt something whimsical was missing, and we added the slightest touch of hot pink.   The pattern and color story carried through from guest book poster, signature drink flags, hanging tissue balls, dangling ceremony flowers, signage above the head table, vase wraps, placemats, lighting, linens and that wow-factor cake.   The end result was a wedding so very Kari and Matt- bold and beautiful.

Rustic Wisconsin Wedding

Mostly everything you see at this wedding was designed by the bride and groom with a little help from family and friends. Anna and Paul envisioned a unique, relaxed, “rustic romantic” day that incorporated some of their favorites: an outdoor ceremony, a barn, comfort food, sweet treats, live music, vintage finds, natural elements, and closest family & friends. It looks like they got exactly what they wanted and then some. This Rustic Wisconsin Wedding was photographed by The McCartneys Photography. To see more visit the full wedding gallery.

From Anna:

With a limited budget in our pocket, we prioritized pieces that were most important to us and trusted that our creative DIY touches would make up for the rest! Paul’s artistic & graphic skills soared in making all the paper goods. (He used the perfect font and made sure we consistently used it throughout. Even on his hand painted signs!) And my eye for detail and Martha-Stewart-love brought about many DIY projects that I truly enjoyed completing! Cost-friendly materials were found at rummages, Etsy, and local craft stores. (One of my favorites was the chandelier that sparkled above our heads during the ceremony. A simple $3 Goodwill find redone to shine!)
All of the natural and vintage elements that we incorporated in our day wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our family. Paul’s uncle and my brother and nephew were eager to stomp through the woods, gathering fallen branches and trees for our table décor. Paul’s aunt harvested her very own wheat for the ceremony décor! We scattered borrowed vintage crates, boxes, tables, mason jars and bottles throughout. And a friend’s Dad delivered a truckload of ferns to help soften and green-up the rustic venue. (SO grateful for our helpers!)

Starbucks Wedding

We are positive that there are dozens of you that have meet your soulmate at Starbucks/your local coffee house. In fact there are so many of you out there that Paul Nelson Images and Blossom Events collaborated to bring you some inspiration for a coffee themed wedding. Your wedding does not  necessarily have to be held at a coffee shop. Read on to hear how you can have a Starbucks Wedding and of course be sure to  see the entire gallery with way more coffee shop photos here.

Setting: We wanted a photo shoot that felt cozy, casual and fun. We wanted to use the idea of a couple of have had their first date in the coffee shop and associate the idea of why people hung out in Starbucks. So we wanted the dark furniture, brick walls, chalkboards, shelves, books, and of course coffee beans to create the feel and coziness of it. The School Café and Bakery was a perfect location for us, as it incorporates all of the above.

Stationery: Along with the idea of first date at a café, we wanted to create a set of invitations that would be fun, and non-traditional. The main colours we used are the Starbucks Green and White. Matching tea packages and coffee labels were made to continue with the casual theme. The tea and coffee names are of course inspired by selection that Starbucks carry. Because we wanted this to be fun, we decided that mini newspaper programs with a crossword puzzle at the back about the couple would be a great way to create the relaxed feeling, just like sitting at a café. As for the table number, we decided instead of a normal traditional table number, we could use coffee specials in Starbucks to name them, like Caramel Macchiato which is well known there. Lastly, as Starbucks always have a CD of the week on their cash counter, we decided we can have something similar created as ‘guest favors’.

Cake: Inspired by Starbucks small bites desserts and snacks, we knew that Jaime from Wicked Little Cake Company whom we worked in the past before would do an awesome job! A simple cake complemented with homemade fluffy marshmallows, coffee beans, coffee mugs was exactly what we imagine that would fit a theme like ours.

Rustic Purple Wedding Ideas

Nestldown is located in the redwoods on acres of lushly landscaped property.  This exceptional wedding venue is located just minutes away from the heart of the Silicon Valley in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It is pretty much the ideal location for a rustic wedding. Mark and Afton loved this wedding venue so much that they sacrificed other wedding splurges in order to have their wedding here. Yep – it’s that good.

Since most of their budget was spent on the venue,  the decor and details were diy. The bride goes into more detail here about her planning process and of course the bow on the back of her dress. Be sure to see more Rustic Purple Wedding Ideas in the full wedding gallery. All of this prettiness was captured by Christina Diane Weddings.

Wisconsin Barn Wedding

You are going to love this barn wedding from one of our Hand-Picked Vendors in the Midwest, Emily Steffen Photography. Matt and Claire wanted a day that was simple, charming and a little rustic. They chose The Enchanted Barn, an ideal choice for a simply lovely Wisconsin barn wedding.

Of course, it was ultra important to have their Boston Terrier, Crosby, at the wedding. He was decked out in a handmade bow tie that matched the groomsmen’s handmade neckties that both Matt and Claire’s moms made! We are dying over how cute Crosby is. To see more of this barn wedding check out the entire gallery.

Other handmade details that you might want to take note of are the embroidered table numbers and fabric bunting banners. Another steal worthy idea is the paint chips in coordinating colors as the escort cards for the guests! You can pick those up at any local hardware store for free.

Tin Can Floral Arrangements

Tin can floral arrangements are incredibly charming, but also add that extra vintage touch to your wedding decor. If  you cannot find those perfect vintage-tin-cans, another option is to paint everyday vegetable or coffee cans or make covers for the containers. We just so happen to have a diy wedding project that covers this very topic.

After you have figured out your can situation, place simple yet striking florals like the anemones you see in this styled shoot. Use a little moss or floral foam and voila, you have an instant wedding centerpiece. Annabella Charles and Haute Horticulture are the masters behind these stunning tin can floral arrangements. A Simply Shabby Chic Wedding

Before we dive into this week’s Sweet Treats we had to share with you Mary and Dana’s backyard wedding. Mary actually found a vintage green tandem bike in Santa Cruz that she wanted to use as her wedding theme … and after discovering our Tandem Bike Free Printable Wedding Invitations Templates, she was all about it. We love it! She also looks pretty darn cute in our Vintage Bride Tee shirt captured by Jessica Burke Photograpy. To see more delicious photographs be sure to see the entire wedding gallery.

Fortunately for Mary, her mom owns an antique shop, Junk in the Trunk … how cute is that name? So sourcing a lot of her decor was relatively easy. The milk bottle vases were found at various flea markets that her mom frequents, and the banners were made by the bride herself and she sells for holidays in her mom’s store. How stinking cute are those personalized wine labels? Remember so many more shabby chic wedding ideas to see in the wedding gallery.

Desert Botanical Garden Wedding

The desert is home to the agave century plant, which traditionally blooms after 100 years. Our next couple chose this desert plant as a symbol of their love. The plant is featured throughout the garden, and even portrayed in Chihuly sculptures at the garden entrance. The plant was referenced in the vows and displayed on printed material throughout the event, as well. We love when a theme is carried throughout the wedding.

The bride shared so much more with us about this desert wedding so be sure to read on. You can also view the entire wedding gallery by clicking here. All of this desert beauty was captured by Hollye Schumacher Photography.

Guests were given small white bells to ring as the couple walked down the aisle during the recessional. The bells featured tags tied with twine, and said “RING ME!” How sweet of the guests to ring in the newlyweds.

After the ceremony, guests picked up prickly pear margaritas and wandered through the desert pathways to Boppart Courtyard. The courtyard featured bright coral tablecloths on high-top tables, tied with burlap ribbon and topped with small arrangements of succulents.

Guests found their names and table assignments hanging with twine strung between a set of agave stalks Marney’s parents had carefully collected, which continued the theme of the century agave plant. The tags were hand-written by the bride on kraft card stock tags with white ink, so very lovely.

Guests sat in shabby chic white chairs at tables covered in natural green tablecloths. The centerpieces were 8″ x 8″ dark-stained boxes filled with coral peonies, purple lisianthus, yellow genista, flower shaped succulents, yellow & purple freesia, green viburnum, ladies mantle and purple lilac with floating candles highlighting throughout. Each box was wrapped with twine.

Tables were identified by cities Marney and Booth had lived in (Florence, Honolulu, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Chicago, etc). The city names were hand-written by Marney’s artistic cousin Michael in white lettering on kraft card-stock. Place settings were clean and crafty. A kraft menu (designed and printed by Marney) featured the agave logo hand-stamped at the top, and tucked inside a crisply folded white cotton napkin tied with twine. Marney’s mother cut rosemary from her herb garden and added a sprig to each napkin.

The homemade guest book was housed in a Russell + Hazel Signature 3-Ring Binder wrapped in white patent. Inside, natural/kraft and green sheets held green and salmon-colored (empty) envelopes. Guests chose their own blessing from any of five card sets laid out on the table. The cards are hand-stamped with custom designed graphics borrowed from one of Martha Stewart’s guest book ideas. Guests wrote a response to whichever card they chose and slipped it in an empty envelope.

Marney spent a few of her childhood years in London, and has fond memories of snapping British Christmas crackers with her family. After ordering supplies to fabricate 175, she put her parents to work helping stuff the cardboard rolls with almond roca, white LED jelly rings that flash when depressed, traditional silly colorful paper hats, and light marriage jokes like “My wife and I were happy for twenty years. Then we met,” courtesy of Rodney Dangerfield. Marney’s sisters lead the guests in a celebratory “SNAP” to celebrate the couple in their toast.

Another family tradition of the bride’s family is to sing “Happy Trails” as a family member departs. To close down the evening, the band played “Happy Trails” as Marney and Booth danced by their friends and family lining the luminaria-lit pathway. Guests picked up muslin bags hand-stamped with a custom “Happy Trails” stamp designed by the bride and filled with the Binns family’s secret trail mix recipe.

Handstitched Anthropologie Wedding

Being a display designer for Anthropologie naturally inspired our next bride, PJ, to design a wedding with handmade and whimsical details on a very reasonable budget.

Lucky for you, PJ now designs handmade weddings over at Going Lovely. Adorable name..right? Read on to hear more about this lovely wedding that was captured by Emily Blake Photography. There are ton more details to see in the full wedding gallery.

From PJ:

We chose to have our wedding at Strawberry Farms in Irvine because it’s in the city where we went to college and met. We created a spreadsheet of all the decorations we wanted to have at our wedding, followed by a completion date, a budget, and helpers. This really helped us stay organized and on track with making the decor without getting too stressed out! Andrew was the best DIY partner and our family and friends were so helpful throughout the planning process. They were happy to join us and help with making anything that had to be mass produced, like canning homemade jam for our favors, sewing the burlap table runners, and building wood planters for our centerpieces.

My favorite part of the day was when the doors of the barn were pulled back and we walked in for the first time as Mr. & Mrs. I loved seeing our guests excited and already having a good time! It was also wonderful to see our vision for the wedding come to life. My mom’s friend, EJ, did such an amazing job designing our floral centerpieces. They were gorgeous and she incorporated my love for succulents! Andrew’s favorite part of the day was the dance party, where he surprised everyone with a fun dance routine during the garter toss.

Words Of Advice:

Don’t hesitate to call in favors and ask for help. We reached out to our friends and family for things that we would normally have to hire a vendor for, and they were more than happy to help and be a part of our special day! Everyone did such an amazing job on their assigned tasks and were such a blessing to us. We couldn’t have made it happen without them.

Sarah Young and Derek Neher were married at Sarah’s parent’s winery, Walla Walla Vintners not far from the foothills of the Blue Mountains near Walla Walla, WA. Carmel Super 8 Wedding

Sitting in a Tree shared with us their incredible Super 8 Wedding Film shot by Austin Hendrix. Read on to here about the wedding details from the bride, Myka. If you would like to see more of this wedding you can head on over to Style Me Pretty to check out the whole wedding

Our wedding day was truly a labor of love. Georges and I had decided early on that we wanted to have a cocktail style wedding, no formal sit-down dinner, just drinks, desserts and lots of dancing. To help create our DIY vision, our families and friends poured their hearts into making sure our day was absolutely perfect. Our amazing moms made desserts, our aunts made appetizers, our uncles played live music during the ceremony, our cousins hung fabric, our siblings created floral arrangements and our best friends ran around town making sure everything was ready for our special day. We found the most amazing location nestled away in Carmel Valley. It created the perfect setting to share our day with all of our friends and family. We were lucky enough to have won a wedding photography contest and the wonderful Melissa Diep Photography flew out all the way from Chicago.

This video is no longer available to view. Please visit Austin Hendrix on their website.

Sweet & Chic Shabby Chic Wedding

Ready for a touching backyard wedding? Napa Valley wedding photographer, Marin Kristine Photography captured this touching wedding.

The wedding took place at the bride’s parents home. They got married underneath a big old cotton wood tree at sunset. The old rickety furniture, desks, dressers, frames, and doors were found around the barn, parents home and grandmas home. Everything was an heirloom from within the family and passed down to celebrate the day. Along with each tea pot, hairbrush, old tin, scale, typewriter and everything else you see.

Napa Valley wedding photographer, Marin Kristine Photography is a preferred vendor and proud sponsor of The Wedding Chicks.

Read on to hear more touching moments to this incredible wedding from Marin Kristine Photography.

The bride designed (and personally made) her bird cake toppers by hand. She personally made the wedding favors of grape jam. Her father made the frames and doorways that they passed under to go into the ceremony and reception sites. The groom’s cousin (Amanda) made the garlands that draped over the doorways, assembled every bouquet, styled the event to perfection, and coordinated the wedding.

Another special, yet tragic unfortunate event that occurred was one of the groomsmen (best friend to the groom) was killed 2 days before the wedding in a car accident. A chair/bouquet was placed at the ceremony site in his honor and in remembrance of him. He was spoken of during the wedding ceremony, and given toasts during the reception.

It was a bittersweet wedding filled with sadness and joy. They remembered him, cried for him, and had moments of silence. It was (in a way) a memorial and wedding at the same time. There were so many moments of joy and laughter as friends came together, just to find moments later tears being shed and hugs exchanged between them all.

Wedding By The River In New Jersey

Get ready for a clean and natural wedding with that backyard feel from one of our favorite New Jersey wedding photographers, Pat Furey Photo. Pat never seems to disappoint us. Erin and Kurt shared with us all the details that made their Califon, NJ wedding come to life. Please read on for the juicy details.

The key theme to our wedding was “natural”. We wanted our whole day to not only be about us, but to be about everyone attending. After all, they are the ones that made us into the people we are today. We were going for a backyard style wedding, and when we saw the Raritan Inn we instantly fell in love. We felt like we were home, it had everything our home didn’t have, a big back yard. The ceremony was about a ¼ mile walk through the field down to a clearing near a brook. We didn’t have any decorations at the ceremony, we felt the natural landscape was too perfect to disturb. We had a simple old tree as our altar, the butterflies swarming the field as adornment, and a bagpiper playing in the distance.

For the reception, we took advantage of the gorgeous greenery and natural summer wildflowers and put the tables outside. We had horseshoe pits set up, a great way for the families to get to know one another, and we created a DIY photo booth and props. There is something about watching adults act like goofs that will make anyone laugh (not to mention the great pictures)! We used burlap and jute twine everywhere!

We love the natural earthy-ness and texture. The tables each had a runner of burlap that stood out against the crisp white linen table clothes, and we used old ball jars my mother had in the basement for centerpieces. Every table had a different mixture of flowers. Each jar was wrapped with jute and held white hydrangeas, daisies, aster, or pale yellow roses, giving the “just picked” look. We used the restored 1880′s barn to cool off for cocktail hour and dancing. We strung jute along the barn walls with black & white pictures of our friends and family held on by clothespins. Instead of the traditional wedding cake we went with Stuffed Cupcakes, allowing everyone to choose their own flavor! Our small wedding cake for the groom and I was a simple butter cream cake topped with fresh flowers and custom-made yellow lovebirds found on etsy.com.

The place cards were affixed to the tops of jars of raspberry preserves. Each donned a home made label, and yellow gingham fabric tied on with jute. The ring bearer’s pillow was made of a bed of moss with a tiny nest to hold the rings. The flower girl carried a matching basket woven with moss holding yellow and white petals. With a short time to plan the wedding, I scoured the web gathering ideas we liked, and then made them myself for the custom, homemade look we were going for!

Lemon and Lime San Diego Wedding Part Deux

We are overjoyed that you stopped by our wedding blog for part deux of Amanda and Jeremy’s San Diego citrus delight. Not only do we have all the lemon lime wedding details for your viewing pleasure, but we also have their wedding film to show you. Captured by seriously talented Nick Bowser of Crafthouse Productions. We must warn you that if you watch this be prepared to shed some major tears. Captured by the incredible La Vie Photography!

Amanda and her sister Amy collaborated together to design all the florals and boutonnieres. Possibly they missed there calling as florists? Minnesota Lilac and Green Wedding Ideas

Happy Thursday and thank you for visiting our little wedding blog. We are thrilled to share with you a little Minnesota wedding from one of our very own preferred vendors, Geneoh Photography. Jamie is a event coordinator for USA Hockey and Ryan is a forward for the Edmonton Oilers.

They met in college and from the very beginning Ryan knew Jamie was going to be his wife, super love when that happens. They got married at Noerenberg Gardens and had there reception at grandparents house on Lake Minnetonka.

From The Bride

We wanted to show all of our guests why we love Minnesota so much. Why we call Lake Minnetonka home. So we did just that. We had and outdoor tent party. We catered Famous Dave’s because Ryan wanted ribs, chicken, salmon, mashed potatoes and vegetables. I didn’t want the typical red and white checked barbecue so I rented white ceramic platters, bowls, and stainless steel serving utensils from Apres and made it an eloquent summer barbecue. We had family and friends fly in from all over the U.S. and Canada. To honor our Canadian relatives, the Canadian National Anthem was played during fireworks. I cut and glued Canadian Maple Leafs on all the clothes pins that held the seating cards. We also hung a Canadian flag on the flag pole outside my parent’s house.

I am a perfectionist so my wedding was all about little details. We had a week of time line and a day of schedule. Everything ran on time and we were even ahead of schedule. Green maple leafs, hockey pucks as table numbers (spray painted sliver with green ribbons and green table numbers), decorated bathrooms, fans at the ceremony in case guests got hot, great food, a DJ that knows how to keep the party going.

I wouldn’t change anything about our Wedding. Ryan let me make it everything I could have dreamed of. Most of the day was a surprise for him, I didn’t involve or waste his time in the little decisions. And at the end of the night he pulled me aside, kissed me and said thank you for making this the best day of my life, I have dreamed about our wedding for a long time and you blew my dreams away and made this day so much more than what I ever could have imagined.

San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf Wedding

Monica and Patrick were married at The Argonaut Hotel in San Francisco. The original 1907 style architecture still embodies elements of the nautical history of San Francisco in its heyday, its plush, stylish decor nestles guests in an accommodating, stimulating environment that is both modern and comforting. Since Patrick went to the Maritime academy, it only made sense to update the style of the wedding to nautical theme with vintage flair.

Monica daunted a flirty tea length Melissa Sweet Dress along with a pair of satin navy blue peep toe pumps. Love the tea length gown it looks adorable on her don’t you think? Captured by Larissa Cleveland Photography.

DIY Lime Green & Navy Blue Wedding

Our next wedding took place in Washington at the historical Red Barn Farms. It has been in the Meyer family for over 100 years, but recently renovated into a rustic and elegant wedding venue. The 1903 timber-frame barn is the focal point and magical in the evening with the glow of soft light. An ideal spot for WA rustic barn yard wedding.

Betsy, the bride, did absolutely everything herself (with the help of her friends) or at least had the idea for those unique touches.  She made the groom’s ring, flower arrangements, bouquets, centerpieces, candy table, tulle ceiling adornment (which made tossing the bouquet a little difficult), photobooth (decorated with family photos). She dyed her own slip blue (something blue!), chose the boys’ socks, and after not being able to find a chandelier that matched what she wanted, she made that herself as well. Talk about a DIY bride and of course a special thanks to Matt Shumate Photography.

NYC Queens County Farm Wedding

Before we dive into the wedding, we have to share with you that Melanie is wearing her something blue wedding gown designed by Project Runway’s leanne marshall. How fun is that? Thanks to Heather Espana Photography for sharing this laid-back wedding with us.

About the day, in the bride’s words:
“David and I aren’t very formal people, so we set out to have a sweet, silly, homegrown, do-it-together wedding. we were married at queens county farm museum, which is one of our favorite places; it’s the only working farm within new york city limits, and it was the perfect mix of rural and urban for our laid-back wedding.

Below is a list of all the DIY’s that Melanie and David did for their wedding.

veil & bridesmaid’s flower fascinator
favors (we wrapped chocolates with patterned paper & made heart cutouts)
guest book (i took a leather photo album, glued tiny envelopes into it, and guests were asked to leave us notes on small cards, which are now tucked into the envelopes)

Palm Springs Wedding At The O’Donnell House

Anna and Brandon live in snowy Canada and wanted to have a wedding filled with sunshine. The obvious choice would be Palm Springs, where the sun is rarely shy and the skies are always blue.

They settled on The O’Donnell House for their wedding venue. What makes The O’Donnell House a little different than a boutique hotel is that offer two different large houses that you can stay in and hold your wedding and reception. Nestled against a mountainside in the heart of Old Palm Springs Village, this makes a more intimate desert wedding. Thanks to JAC Photography for sharing this desert wedding with us. Take note of all the exquisite flower designed by Luna Salomon. We especially love the anemone wedding bouquet and birch trees used as vases. Everything is simple yet elegant.

Palm Springs Wedding Filled With Vintage Charm

First off we have to admit we are in love with Mi Belle Photography! They really do have something special going on!

I am guessing that is why Chris and Allison choose Mi Belle Photography to shoot their hip Palm Springs Wedding. They tied the knot at the famous Colony Palms Hotel Palm Springs. Originally dubbed The Colonial House by reputed mobster owner Al Wertheimer, the Spanish Colonial style hotel began receiving guests in 1936 featuring plenty of sunshine, a good night’s rest, as well as a legendary underground speakeasy and brothel. Sounds like risky business to us.

Indulge in the the rest of Chris and Allison’s wedding and read on for some of their steal worthy ideas.

Allison’s adorable shoes are by Jeffrey Campbell, who I am personally a huge fan of. These particular shoes have a retro 40s flair with a little slice of a sparkling color to add a dash of drama. Known as the Quartz Platform and retail for $159.

If you are loving the bridesmaid dresses and wondering were you can snag those up for your maids they are actually BCBG. Allison added brooches to the bridesmaid dresses to complete that vintage look and feel. She actually picked them up at the Long Beach Flea market.

Another super cute wedding idea is their vintage postcard wedding menus created by PEAK a Boo Design. The postcards include guest seating on the right and the wedding menu on the left. A custom postmark was created especially for Allison and Christopher. Allison selected a vintage Palm Springs graphic for the front of the postcard. Such a fun and creative way to tie in all that is Palm Springs. You can purchase these vintage post card menus here.

Costa Rica Wedding From Jose Villa Photography Part I

First off we have to give a special shout out to the Groom, Akil Bennet, who happens to be a Wedding Chicks photographer in Houston, TX.

Akil wanted nothing but the best for his tropical island getaway. So, of course, he enlisted fine art wedding photographer Jose Villa to capture his Costa Rica wedding after attending one of Jose’s workshops. Besides choosing the wedding photographer Alex, the bride, planned 100% of the wedding with assistance from Tropical Occasions. She wanted Akil to be surprised with this breath taking island event.

If you are planning a Costa Rica wedding be sure to take note of the weather. There is no real summer or winter in Costa Rica and the rainy season here lasts from May to November, with the months of December through April having little to no rain and September and October being the heaviest rain period. As far as heat goes the coolest months of the year are November, December and January. The months March through May are the hottest months of the year.

Be sure to stay tuned later today we will be showcasing more of this seriously beautiful couple.

Stay tuned there will be so much more to enjoy!

Tropical Hawaiian Wedding

Did you know that one of Amy’s favorite places in the world is Hawaii? Just a fun Wedding Chick fact!

Callaway Gable shared with us Matt and Heather’s tropical love story.

Matt and Heather were married at a private beachfront home in Wailea on the island of Maui in Hawaii. They were originally going to be married at the Hoku Lani Estate next to the famous Keawalai Church (built in 1855 and made of 3 foot thick lava rock) but were forced to relocate venues just weeks before their wedding! Luckily, Matthew’s brother, Ryan, a Hollywood producer, pulled some strings and secured his friend’s beautiful beachfront home, just minutes from the Four Seasons, and on Makena Beach. How Lucky were they?

Heather converted to Matthew’s faith, Judaism. So, it was a traditional Jewish ceremony against a breathtaking back drop. We also want to make a special mention that the above paper goodies were handmade Coral Save The Dates, mailed to guests in box. A keepsake and wonderful idea.

Santa Barbara Shabby Chic Wedding

Paul Von Rieter always shares ultra fabulous weddings with us. Like this Hollywood Stunner or this MTV star’s wedding. Both amazingly wonderful weddings.

Gianna (one of our super talented coordinators from Chic Celebrations) and Gary dish all of the details on their barn yard wedding. Read on…

“We had another venue already booked, and just out of curiosity stopped into Eucalyptus Lane one weekend. It was love at first sight. Gary and I both wanted something that was a little rustic and a little shabby chic and this was exactly what we envisioned. I wanted lots of whites to lighten the inside of the barn and greens to accent the property’s lush gardens. Jocelyn, at A Beautiful Day Production could almost read my mind, and brought to life what I spent so much time trying to explain. Aged julep cups and birds’ nests exuded the rustic romance Gary and I were looking for. March weather is always tricky so I wanted to make sure guests were covered at the ceremony either way. Fresh lemonade if it was hot and pashminas if it was cold.”

“The ceremony took place in front of the herb garden gates on the property and the reception moved over to the barn. A close friend who is also an ordained minister married us, it was so personal and hilarious. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. Von Rieter rocked the photography, the candids from him are so heartwarming and show how happy we all were at that moment. It started to drizzle just as we made our grand entrance.”

“The menu complimented the venue with tri-tip, jalapeno macaroni and cheese, and warm cornbread. A guest was able to pick up the cake and cupcakes from our favorite Orange County bakery, French’s, the same bakery that did the bride’s parents wedding almost 30 years ago. The drink tables, bars and buffets were made from old barrels and reclaimed doors. Brilliant!”

“And in lieu of a gift table we used an old wheelbarrow. Nicole, who works with me at Chic Celebrations, was incredible. The wedding-planner in me never even had a chance to kick in. I felt like a guest the whole entire night, a rarity. Classic Cuts kept the party going all night, the last dance was Purple Rain by Prince (one of Gary’s favorites) and had every guest singing their heart out. The night was amazing, it truly sparkled. I still have guests tell me that it truly felt like they were in the back woods somewhere in the South. Perfect, exactly what we were going for.”

Purple Fairytale Wedding

I know we have seen a lot of Alice in Wonderland shoots, but this one has a purple spin and we know you all love purple. So we had to share. (; I’m also a sucker for a Rivini Gown.

Read on to hear from the creative team!
A darling “Welcome to our Wonderland” sign hung from a tree in the entrance of the garden. The sign was created using hand white-washed wood that was laser etched with Victorian graphics.

Lindsey Luxa of Dragonfly Custom Design created the invitation suite. Once opened, an antique pewter key gives you a hint that you are in for something magical. Lindsey nestled the beautiful invitation in a silk box constructed of deep purple and iridescent green silks. The body of the invitation was set on a deep purple silk pad with a layer of iridescent green silk, natural fiber paper and dark purple paper. To further tie it into Alice in Wonderland, she used subtle clocks and teapot imagery. Guests are also reminded, “Don’t be late for a Very Important Date”.

A garden tea party underneath a rooftop peppered with manzanita branches, crystals and orchids is right up my alley. For our Alice in Wonderland Photo Shoot, we were so inspired by our environment that we decided to bring the natural elements of the garden not only onto the table but above the table as well. In addition to our organic chandelier, we created an natural structure made of driftwood, intense purple hydrangea clusters and ivory roses paved along the edge. For our charming setting, we scoured all over Miami to find unique vintage tea sets. Mixing and matching sets adds so much character to a table – perfect for a bohemian chic vibe. To top it off, we set an antique pendulum clock indicating the table number for that Alice in Wonderland touch.

Eco Friendly Wedding Ideas

Here are some lovely eco friendly wedding tips and tricks form The Good Life Special Events! If you are DIY bride are looking for a more eco conscience wedding ideas you must read on.

Our inspiration: Vintage print press blocks were our primary inspiration for styling this woodsy design in a tropical setting. The intention was to give brides and grooms a glimpse into a sweet and unique woodland wedding soiree in coastal Southern California. By playing with more muted tones of moss, khaki, and chocolate, we kept the look of this luncheon wedding reception lush but brought in bright and cheery pops of color with the gold brocade napkins and bright pink button flowers in our apothecary jars.

DIY: It’s amazing what you can do with moss and twigs! We filled our apothecary jars with cushiony moss and smooth river stones and stood pink button flower branches and twigs upright as if they were growing up from the bottom of the jars. The result was a charming and whimsical centerpiece. We also filled two wooden trays with the same moss and spelled out JOY and LOVE with our vintage print press blocks for an unexpected touch.

Whimsical touches: Momental Designs whipped up some lovely paper goods that emitted that true woodland feeling. With velvet chocolate ribbon, hand painted menus and place cards, and a gorgeous watercolor table number, our bride and groom oohed and aahed at the finishing touches.

The attire: Our gorgeous bride stunned in a vintage gray frock from Queue – we wanted to style her and our groom a little differently to showcase alternative wedding wear options. The ruffles, her sash, and that breathtaking tone were the perfect partner to our groom’s sisal suit from Tommy Bahama.

Using your imagination: When dreaming up your wedding vision, be sure to stay true to you and your fiancè. Draw inspiration from your surroundings; this could be your home, the town you live in, or your favorite place to visit. If you love camping and hiking, pipe in bits of natural settings (like with moss or stones). If you long for the beach, use simple shell accents in your engagement party or reception details. Tying in subtle hints here and there will help to keep your wedding unique and special to you. Use your imagination and get creative with your centerpieces. Sometimes the most beautiful designs are so simple.

A Real New Jersey Wedding

Our first Real Wedding of the week is straight from Jersey. Shared with us by Dinofa Photography. We fell in love with them way back when we featured them in one of our free table numbers and menu downloads style boards.

I know that you love purple, and this wedding has touches of it here and there and pretty much everywhere. Jamie and Tony were married at the gorgeous Saint Thomas at Villanova Chapel followed by a lovely reception at the historic Cairnwood Mansion in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. You are going to gush over Jamie’s hairpiece which was custom created by her seamstress, Lori Matthews of Havertown, PA. It compliments her vintage style wedding dress designed by the dreamy Jim Hjelm!

Costa Rica Destination Wedding

Remember yesterday when we shared with you those spectacular vintage invites from Jenn Lane? Well … here is Jenn and Daniel’s DIY Costa Rica Wedding. They wanted their entire wedding from start to finish to be incredibly unique. Staring off with a destination wedding in Costa Rica.

With family and friends by their side they spent a whirlwind week relaxing and exploring the rain forest. Thanks to Jenn and her talented photographer, Rachel Nicole for sharing this tropical delight with us.

Steal this idea!

What a lovely idea to have your wedding party sign the bottom of your bridal shoes. It might be a crafty idea to place them in a shadow box with other wedding memories to have as a keepsake of your special day.

Jenn and Daniel had some unique twists to their wedding ceremony. Her Mom and Grandmother walked her down the aisle to “Crazy Love” by Van Morrison. They read the love letters that they wrote to each.  Those letters were on their wedding invitations that they sent to their guests. Instead of a unity candle, they mixed paint, and stood on canvas to make footprints. They ended the ceremony by washing each others feet and then finally sealing the deal with a kiss.

The entire bridal party looks incredibly cutting-edge. The bridesmaid’s wore heather gray dresses from Target, over mustard tee’s from forever 21. For that extra pop the girls wore kelly green tights. Also from forever 21.

The groomsman’s outfits were super simple. A basic fresh white dress shirt paired with black slacks. The key to the outfit is the kelly green suspenders purchased from Amazon.

I love all the hues of greens and yellows used in the floral arrangements. Splendid Sentiments and Designs did a stellar job. Especially on the bridal bouquet, filled with billy buttons, yellow tulips and other spring floral delights. This yellow and green bouquet is not only gorgeous but incredibly stylish.

The fantastically fun little bird pins on the bridesmaid dresses and the groomsman’s suspenders were created by Maisey Handmade, and the felt flower clips in the ladies hair were created by Whimsical Accessories. Both of course, Etsy stores.

Crafty Paige + Blake also made the ladies’ bird rings from supplies purchased at Micheal’s.
