A bougie barn wedding in NY with the prettiest “something blue” theme

high end barn wedding ideas

Abby and Tyler met in college at a fraternity party while Abby was wearing what she describes as, "the most ridiculous '90's girl' outfit." After her friend went up to Tyler and told him he would be taking Abby to formal, the rest was history! For their wedding at The Sablewood at Highview Springs, Abby and Tyler both wanted something unique, but also something that fit them as a couple. Tyler is originally from Syracuse, New York, where he spent a lot of time in a more “country” setting, while Abby is from closer to New York City. As a compromise, they chose the perfect "bougie barn" for their special day.

The personalized details of this wedding complemented the personal moments

Before their ceremony, the bride and groom shared a first look in a setting that was a private getaway for them with champagne, a table for two, sweet treats, and a custom hand-painted bottle of champagne for them to open on their one-year anniversary. The florist did an incredible job (not only at this location, but throughout the entire wedding) of providing just the right amount of floral detail in the perfect places. There was nothing over the top or overdone - it was simply the perfect accent to an already stunning property.

The ceremony - and really the whole day! - was a perfect blend of tradition and family

For the ceremony, it was important to the couple that they brought Abby's religion together with the appreciation of family. Abby's uncle married them under a traditional Jewish Chuppah with the ceremonial ending of breaking the glass!

Just when it got serious, the perfect amount of laughter and dancing was brought into the mix

The reception was originally planned for outside, but a storm came in at just the wrong moment and the couple had to move inside of the Charlington Barn. This turned out, however, to be the most beautiful Plan B! They were even able to set up a perfect champagne station right at the exit of the ceremony, which with the move inside, happened to now be the entrance to their cocktail hour!

At the reception, there was endless dancing, laughter, and memories. Following the bride's father's speech, he was "interrupted" by bottle dancers: actors mimicking the movie "Fiddler on the Roof." The crowd was loving it, and there wasn't a single person who hesitated to join in as the dancers (courtesy of Michael Pasternak Productions) led everyone into the traditional Hora dance!

What was the bride's favorite part of her day?

"Our florals absolutely blew us away. The way our planner put together our tables was something out of a fairytale: florals, blue cups, velvet napkins, and the list goes on and on."

Reflections from the planner:

There were so many personal details throughout the day. For example, Abby's getting ready robe and her mom's getting ready shorts were crafted from her mom's wedding gown. The bride also gave her loved ones hand-embroidered hankies with personal messages. SBM Event Co. made custom stationery with sketches of the venue and florals, complete with blue velvet ribbon that would make its way into the rest of the decor through linens, the cake, and the bride's bouquet. Groom Tyler was the one who made the escort board with personalized little notes to each guest on their seating chart, and we'd be remiss not to mention that two of the vendors went so far as to make a surprise display with the lyrics to their first dance song
