Trader Joe’s Flowers

From the Bride: I wanted to add a trendy vintage style to our “traditional white church wedding” and make it our own. For the ceremony entrance decor, I used thrift store finds, chalkboard paint, and wood to give it a natural feel. I also gathered vases from thrift stores and tied burlap string around them. We filled the vases with Trader Joe’s flowers which seemed to look as though they were picked from a garden and that was exactly what I was looking for!

Kick Off Your Shoes And Enjoy

Our reception was held in a friend’s backyard called Gigi’s Garden, it was just what I wanted to capture our wedding day! It almost felt as though I was getting married in my own backyard which naturally made me want to take off my shoes and enjoy the natural beauty of the moment!

I placed old family heirlooms throughout the wedding to remind us of those who had already passed on; my Grandmother’s lipstick holder with flower halo’s for guest to enjoy & vintage hankies’s as they were my Grandfather’s favorite. Personal touches and handmade items were a true labor of love for us. Our ceremony was preformed by our bridal party – Each person taking on a different part. It’s a beautiful feeling to have your best friends leading you to recite your vows, or handing you your rings to place on each others finger. These are the people who speak into our lives on a daily basis, so when it came time for who we wanted to marry us they were the perfect fit.

rain won’t ruin your day

Distressed wood chandeliers filled with olive branches hung above the head table, which had handmade leather chevron table runners that added the perfect “something” special. Bright florals, colorful vintage bottles and pheasant feathers that were homage to my fiance who loves to hunt adorned the guest tables under the clear top tent. Mother nature graced us with quite a bit of rain on our big day, so we brought the ceremony inside the main lodge 30 minutes before it was set to begin. Looking back on the change of plans, it actually created the most special and intimate moment of our day.

plan for an imperfectly perfect day

A custom Aztec weave created the perfect backdrop for a dream dessert bar filled with endless goodies. We had ideas for what we wanted to do, it was just a matter of bringing them to life. What seemed like countless hours were spent making the “bar” marquee, seating chart and the homemade hot sauce, but in the end it was all worth it! My advice for brides is different after experiencing it for myself. Even as a wedding planner I can say that things sometimes won’t be perfect; but it will never take away from how special your wedding day is. Make a point to step back during the day and take it all in, it’s an amazing feeling.

Casual Charm

From Brandi Welles Photographer: Becky and Ryan wanted a casual day that was full of family, friends, and personality but still with lots of rustic charm. Their wedding reception was held at Becky’s parents home in Orange County and her and her mom handmade most of the DIY details themselves. They wanted their special day to have rustic touches to match their ceremony venue at Oak Canyon Nature Center so they used a color pallete that was clean, airy, and natural.

Fun With Your Wedding Date

Because they got married on July 11th, they also incorporated some fun 7-11 details such as slurpees as a late night treat. The couple chose a donut bar instead of cake because they are both big time donuts fans and their bar was stocked with San Diego craft beers since that’s where they met and currently live.

It’s Your Big Day, Do What You Want

From The Bride:
I wish I would have had an hour longer of dancing and more slurpees because they were such a hit!! Do what you want and don’t worry about what other people say, I know it sounds cliche but it’s true and it goes by so quick! Don’t sweat the small stuff because at the end of the day you are married and that’s the best part

Instead of a traditional wedding cake, we adore the idea of a tall tray of deep fried deliciousness. They are a tasty treat, everyone loves them and they are considerably lower-cost in cost than a traditional wedding cake. You can get externally creative on how you opt to display them, matching even the fanciest wedding themes. Click here to see a bunch of donut bar ideas.
