Let us head on over to Los Angeles for a Japanese, Czech, and Mexican inspired wedding with a modern twist.  Teo is half-Japanese and Laura is half-Czech, and they both grew up in Los Angeles where you can find some of the best Mexican cuisine around.

Combined with a stylish aesthetic the event was ever so fashionable, it was a perfect blend of very traditional navy Japanese fabrics and old wooden tables, offset with crisp and modern white chairs and plates.  Topped off with colorful and spindly succulent flower arrangements wonderfully designed by La Partie Events. Laura and Teo’s wedding was perfectly captured by KLK Photography.

During cocktail hour, guests played arcade games (skee ball, basketball toss, Street Fighter, NBA Jam, air hockey, foosball) and lawn games (croquet and bocce ball). So fun! Teo and Laura wanted their wedding to be about fun games, excellent food, and great music in a comfortable but pretty environment. This celebration was all about giving our guests a great party!

We have a special treat to share with you today from Picotte Photography! The colorful SmogShoppe wedding of Dan and Joanna who married on a sunny California day in May. The happy couple fell in love with the venue the minute they set foot on the property! The renovated auto repair shop is located in a rapidly evolving arts district in Culver City.  The SmogShoppes eclectic style and sustainable design practices perfectly fit the couple’s personality.

LaPartie Events did a sparkling job with all the details and extra touches. One touch we especially love is the use of succulents in their flower arrangements and that they encouraged the guests to take them home after the reception. A great idea to ensure less waste on your special day. Read on to hear more about the wedding day.

Picotte Photography also does Cinematography and if you scroll down below you can see their wedding video as well.

They used photos from their engagement shoot with Picotte Photography to create the guest book. A ton of online web sites offer great photo albums that you can create and use as guest books.  A a great one that we recommend is blurb.

Rather than giving traditional wedding favors to each guest, the couple made cash donations to the Susan G. Koman for the Cure Foundation and Partners in Health (two organizations that are meaningful to each of them).  They  then printed place cards memorializing the contributions and thanking each of their guests for attending. What a great idea!

From Joanna on skipping the wedding photo booth:

There is an empty closet at SmogShoppe commonly used for the ever-popular wedding photo booth.  We, however, skipped the instant picture option and put the space (and our money) to use in a different way by hosting a booze tasting bar (separate from the regular bar) with a personal touch.  The bar featured special whiskeys (Dan’s drink of choice) and sparkling wines (Joanna’s favorite), that for one reason or another had a special place in the bride and groom’s life.  A “Whiskey & Bubbles” printed menu sat atop the bar to explain the significance of each selection.

How delicious does all the food look?

Dan and Joanna skipped the traditional wedding cake and opted instead for a desert table, featuring Apple Tart Tatins, hand-torched s’mores with brulee banana, and homemade doughnuts (fried fresh on site and served with a variety of tasty dipping sauces). Looks so incredibly yummy!
