New York is filled with charming nooks and crannies that only a local New Yorker would know of. Like the La Plaza Cultural in the East Village, a unique open-air theater and green space, combining the functions of a community garden, a park and play area, wildlife refuge and performance venue.  It also happened to be the ceremony site for Ashley and Colin’s wedding, whose entire guest list was from out of town.

To ensure that their guests experienced some of New York’s incredible charm they created a unique and intimate wedding day. Taking them from a public park to a ride on a big yellow school bus all the way to to a Soho Bookstore. Sounds like a fun adventure to us! From The Bride:
The ceremony was held at La Plaza Cultural in the East Village. There are so many interesting and beautiful community gardens sprinkled around the Village, and we knew not many of our guests would even know places like that existed. I always wanted to get married outside and the weeping willows seemed to be the perfect backdrop. A close friend of ours performed the ceremony, which made the evening that much more meaningful.

Big yellow school buses took guests to the reception at Housing Works Bookstore in SoHo. The bookstore was the perfect choice for us. We’re both writers and love books. We met in grad school and really bonded while working on a project that kept us in the library for three days straight! Housing Works Bookstore is fantastic … all the profit from our wedding went to support the eradication of AIDS and homelessness in the city. They also have in-house catering that’s delicious and the staff was so helpful and accommodating.

What she wishes she would have done differently:
I wish I had done the escort cards differently. I put them in this little card catalog to fit in with the book theme, which I thought was so cute. Even though they were arranged alphabetically, it took guests a long time to find their name, and this backed up the line getting into the space. If I did it again, I would have laid them out where they were easy to see and grab quickly.

We spent the year before our big day scouring the used section at The Strand to collect all the books that we then covered to match our stationery. Kathleen of Kat Flower did all of our floral arrangements, and she is a girl after my heart … the rich, luxurious mix of whites, blush tones and deeply dark hues of all the blooms made the space absolutely gorgeous!

Our band, Roosevelt Dime, set the tone for the evening. Their folksy, soulful jug-band-like blues created the perfect mood. I loved watching our parents dance all night!! For favors, each guest received a book and a personalized bookmark that also served as a place card.

The best part of our wedding was having all the people we love in one place to share and celebrate our marriage with us! Five months later, I’m still looking at all the wonderful pictures Trent Bailey took. The snapshots of those memories will last forever, and it’s exactly why we didn’t want to skimp on photography! We couldn’t have asked for a better evening to start our lives together!

We love the idea of celebrating a fresh, growing love with a spring season wedding. The warmth of the sun shining on those first days of spring coupled with soft grass beginning to grow in again after the winter brought inspiration to this photo shoot in Dallas, Texas. Jessa of Squeeze My Hand, created all the stationery pieces for the shoot. The invitation was designed to show the combination of letterpress and digital printing. The fun polka dots and bright colors feel like spring. Save the date coasters were sent out to inform guests about the upcoming celebration. She also designed the mini glass jars filled with coral Himalayan salts as a favor for guests to enjoy after the wedding. After all.. the salt of life IS love!

Mint and coral pops of color against the dark rustic wooden table display a lively contrast. We wanted to create some whimsical movement & texture, so we attached long flowing ribbons coupled with scalloped lace as a runner. Rent My Dust provided us with mint glass dishware and colorful accent handkerchiefs. White scalloped handkerchiefs with guests’ names enveloped the silverware and served as our place cards. A yarn and ribbon wrapped table number helped guests find their way to their table. Mint colored glass vases held bright, jovial floral arrangements by Kate Foley.

Our groom, Chris, wore mint green bow tie and fun stripped green socks while our bride’s stunning hairpiece (Kate Foley) and make-up by Miranda Purdue complemented her beauty. Her gorgeous dress, designed by Maggie Sottero, completed the look.

Growing up Whit always knew she wanted to get married at Renbrook School where her father worked. While a school is not a traditional wedding venue, the historical building holds many fond memories for this bride — and turned out to be very appropriate since both Mark and Whit worked in the field of education!

With the help of Sarah Taggart from A Polished Plan, the school was transformed into an unique wedding venue with DIY projects and colorful fabric. Don’t miss any of the DIY touches in this wedding by viewing the full gallery here, all fabulously photographed by Anna Naphtali.

From A Polished Plan:
I remember my first phone conversation with the bride, Whitney, vividly. She described the vision of her wedding day as lots of DIY touches, shabby chic details, colorful fabric & patterns and … oh yeah, the reception was going to be held in a school cafeteria. Huh? She was a little overwhelmed at the prospect of pulling together a beautiful wedding, while on a budget, inside a school cafeteria, and quite honestly — so was I. But her enthusiasm and energy were contagious, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be a part of something so special and so unique.

On the Venue:
Originally founded under a different name, Renbrook School has been a working school in West Hartford, Connecticut since 1935. After out growing several buildings, the estate of Frederick B. Rentschler, founder of Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, allowed the school to rent the family home on Albany Avenue. In 1958 the school moved to its new location and renamed itself ‘Renbrook’ after the original name of the Rentschler estate.

Whit is a lover of all things fabric and patterned and pretty so we used that as our jumping off point for the design. And even though the wedding was taking place at a school, and both Whitney & Mark worked professionally in the field of education, the “typical” school theme of vintage books and chalkboards was far from her their mind! The school cafeteria, where the reception was held, was quite literally a blank slate upon which to build our color story of robins egg blue and shades of pink. Using a neutral background of textured and earthy linens, we pulled pieces from Whit’s colorful fabric collection into pennant flags, table numbers & runners, and embroidery hoop wall art

Fresh flowers from a local farm were casually arranged in milk glass and rustic wooden boxes for the centerpieces. Escort cards were strung on a vintage window atop a family heirloom quilt and place cards were cleverly stuck on colored paper straw in the water glass. We created a playful table arrangement using rectangular and circular tables, a large dance floor with a lounge area and dessert bar and installed grapevine wreaths, string lighting, and fabric swag treatments on the ceiling. The result was truly magical and you had to blink twice to remind yourself you were actually standing in a school cafeteria!

As you can see, embroidery hoops and fabric can be used in different ways to decorate your wedding. All that is needed to create this simple wall hanging for your wedding are embroidery hoops, fabric and string! You could even decorate the windows using lace to allow the light to shine through!

Eva and Adrian both spent their childhood on the beautiful island of Saint Maarten, and yet during those early years they never met. Both of them moved away but they occasionally returned to visit the island. On one such visit they finally met for the first time. Their relationship started as a whimsical crush and slowly developed into a forever love. 13 years later, despite the hardships of long distance, they said “I do”.

From the Bride:
In the days leading up to the wedding, I remember receiving a phone call from Tina Reikes of Bear Flag Farm indicating that the weather forecast was going to be a hot one. Though we wanted an open air outdoor ceremony, we decided to put up tents so that our guests would be comfortable — the tents were beautiful and added to the coziness of intimate ceremony. Mother nature always has a way of testing us! The day of the wedding was super sunny, breezy and cool.

Adrian and I fell in love with Bear Flag Farm and when it came to decorations and theme, we did not want to take away from the beauty that would be around us. Rather, we chose a subtle color palette and style that we felt would complement the fields, vineyards and orchards at Bear Flag. In searching for inspiration, we loved the vintage garden/rustic look but wanted also a romantic feel. We were also not fans of having a super matchy concept where all aspects of the decor were identical to one another.

Looking back at our wedding pictures, it was “cold” for the Caribbean guests. Of course Tina and her team thought of everything — she had fleece blankets placed near the sofa lounge section. To this day my guests say that Tina and her team thought of everything! It was a little detail that was greatly appreciated by all.

We love this increasingly popular drink idea utilizing mason jars and darling striped straws. This wedding took it one step further and specialized each straw with a cute saying. Super easy and super cute!

The day of the wedding was stress-free for all and I could tell that our guests enjoyed being at Bear Flag. Initially when we would mention that we were getting married on a farm- that concept threw them for a loop. I don’t think anyone could have imagined how tranquil, chic and beautiful Bear Flag Farm could be. I think our families and guests were blown away. To be honest — the entire day was perfect and beyond what I could have ever imagined.

SKIN PREP:
Clean face, apply your moisturizer. My favorite is Embyrollise.
Apply primer to the areas of skin where necessary. Primers help even out skin tone and texture, they help with combating oily portions of the skin, and they also help the makeup to stay set longer. TEMPTU’s BASE Smooth & Matte Primer combats shine and is ideal for all skin types.

FOUNDATION:
Select a TEMPTU AIRpod foundation in your skin tone. To match your tone, you want to try and match to your neck and décolleté area.

As you spray, pay attention to the direction in which you position your hand, avoiding over spray onto areas that you are not intended for the product. Suggested use is 4-6 inches from your face, positioning the airbrush angled slightly downward as you spray. You will notice an “arrow” on the dial of the system, the suggested level is at 3 o’clock.

Because the product is buildable, and offers full coverage, make sure to not apply too much. Make small, circular motions as you spray allowing the product to cover your skin evenly, without looking and feeling heavy. Keep in mind that the product is lightweight, focus on the look and desired coverage rather than the feel of the product on your skin. A little goes a long way.

Be sure to allow time for TEMPTU to set on the face before touching the skin with any other product or tool. If you try to move the product too soon you will notice a slight white film that appears on the skin. Work in smaller sections, and allow to set as you go.
*You could choose to apply and complete your eye makeup while you wait for the product to set.

CHEEKS:
TEMPTU offers versatile pods for lips and cheeks as well as a line of blush pods.  Apply the blush, using the same rules and techniques as mentioned previously, and apply to the apples of your cheeks sweeping towards the temple. Try spraying your lips for a little color, or even adding a little to your eyeshadow to brighten up your eyes.  Again, allow significant time to set.

HIGHLIGHTER:
You can apply highlighter to a number of places on your face. A good rule is thinking of highlighter as a way to enhance certain areas on your face: the top of your cheekbone, the cupids bow of your lip, under your eyebrow, or the along the bridge of your nose. Apply the product lightly, and carefully- for example make sure it is a straight line down your nose. As you apply over the top of your cheekbone, make a “C” shape rounding from your brow bone, down over the top of your cheek bone. This helps to brighten and enhance your features.

Once all of the product has had time to fully set, I like to apply a light powder such as TEMPTU’s Invisible Difference. Remember, the product is long-lasting as well as water (sweat) resistant, so once it sets you should be good to go for the day. It is buildable, and works really well with a variety of other product lines.

The TEMPTU airbrush system is a great investment for brides and daily wear. It travels well, is virtually mess free, and will last rain or shine, day and night.  Once you get the hang of it, you will notice just how incredible the product allows the appearance of your skin to look and feel.

*The product does have a slight fragrance. It is also gluten, paraben and animal-testing free…yay!

With a penchant for beauty and a knack for making everyone look pretty, beauty expert 10.11 Make Up has kindly shared some diy beauty recipes that could easily be used at a bridal shower. These easy, yet fun recipes seemed only appropriate since we are all about beauty today. Read on to learn how to make your own coffee facial, brown sugar foot scrub, milk and honey hair mask as well as your own cucumber eye compress. All fabulous gifts for your wedding party.

BROWN SUGAR FOOT SCRUB
Mix 1 cup of brown sugar with enough coconut or almond oil, making sure the mixture is not too runny, and add a little lemon juice to create a paste. You can also add a little cinnamon or vanilla fragrance for a yummy smell. Soak your feet and then massage the mixture gently into your feet for a few minutes. Rinse and apply a nice foot cream. The brown sugar acts as an exfoliant and the coconut oil is a great moisturizing agent and can help heal and repair dry skin. Almond oil is an emollient and can help soften and restore moisture to the skin.

COFFEE FACIAL
Use your used coffee grounds and mix it with whole milk to form a paste – if it is too runny add more grounds. You can also mix the grounds with yogurt if you don’t have any whole milk. Add a little cocoa powder to make it smell tasty. Gently massage the mixture into your face (avoiding your eyes and lips) and allow it to sit for about 20 min. The coffee is a great source of anti-oxidants and also constricts blood cells and helps reduce redness. The coffee can act as a firming agent or your skin, and the caffeine can reduce puffiness around the eye area (be careful not to get any in your eye).

CUCUMBER EYE COMPRESS
Cucumbers are full of water and when sliced up, cold, and placed over your eyes, they can help to relieve any puffiness, swelling, or dark circles, and can help brighten the skin. Leave on for 5-10 minutes and if needed, replace with a fresh, cold cucumber for a little longer.

MILK & HONEY HAIR MASK
Place a teaspoon of honey into a glass of milk (whole milk preferably). Apply to your scalp and pull through your hair. Leave on for an hour and rinse with shampoo; avoid clarifying shampoos. The milk acts as a moisturizing agent and the honey is a humectant so it holds the moisture in!

How much did you love all those incredibly beautiful fresh floral wedding halos? Super pretty … right? Keeping with the wedding florals for your hair, we have the extraordinary talented Jade Rose back, you may have remembered her from that super fun Do-It-Yourself Art Deco Ring project.

Well, she is back with another fabulous yet incredibly stylish diy project. This time she is teaching us how to make a diy floral crown. Follow her easy instructions and you too create your own stunning floral crown.

Supplies: First off you are going to want to collect all  your materials, both old and new. Jade Rose collected a variety of feathers through the years from Etsy and eBay. You can find so many suppliers, just search for millinery supply stores or online. Choose your color palette and start laying out your supplies piece by piece so you can begin to conceptualize in your head what you want your halo to look like.

Next you are going to want to create a halo buy measuring the floral wire to your head, cut the wire two inches longer than what your head measures at. These extra two inches allow you to create loops for closing the wire and give some extra room for comfort.  Just like the example below.

Next you are going to want to cover your wire with a fabric of choice if you what to hide it from beneath the feathers and flowers, if you want a more rustic look you can skip this part. Jade Rose used a scarp piece of vintage tulle to wrap around the wire, as you see above.

After you have covered your halo in fabric you will begin to add the base texture to your halo, this will be any material you want to have behind your flowers to help fill in space and add some volume. Jade chose ostrich feathers an peacock feathers. She secured the feathers by wrapping cotton sewing thread around their base, securely looping them around the wire. If you want to add glue to the wires before placing the feathers that will create extra security, but can easily become messy.

Now it’s time to add your flowers! Most millinery flowers come attached to wire, so be sure to wrap the wire of the flower around the floral wire halo base. The feather flowers were handmade by Jade so they did not have wire, next you are going to want to glue them to the halo and then hand stitch them onto the tulle. Continue this step with all of the flowers you want to add to your halo.

Fill in any spaces you see by gluing your extra feathers an fabric into these spots, and voila!! Wear this baby to the next summer wedding you’re attending or even to your own wedding. Mini versions of this can easily be made for flower girls and bridesmaids following the same step but using much smaller flowers. After falling in love in San Diego, Alex followed Tom to Houston when he was re-stationed by the Coast Guard. Although the distance proved to be a bit of a challenge, the couple knew they wanted to tie the knot in the bride’s home town of Seattle, Washington. With the help of the bride’s parents and some amazing vendors Alex was able to plan a beautiful wedding that exceeded her expectations.

From the Bride:
I knew from the beginning that I would have to make decisions without seeing things in person, and our venue was one of those decisions. I went with my gut and chose DeLille Cellars, nestled in the beautiful gardens of Woodinville Wine Country.

The setting allowed us to keep our day very intimate, romantic, and casual, which was exactly what I hoped for. Fortunately, Tom and I were able to travel to Seattle a couple months before the wedding, and after walking through DeLille I knew it was the perfect place for us.

September is one of the most beautiful months in Seattle, the sun was shining and everything fell into place perfectly thanks to Holly from Perfectly Posh Events. She helped Tom and me orchestrate all details, ensuring that we stayed on schedule and everyone was in the right place at the right time, which is important when you only have so many hours to fit in a lot of details. She completely understood that the most important thing to me on my wedding day was enjoying myself and being around my family and friends who had traveled so far to celebrate with Tom and I. She handled every detail and snag (I assume there were some but I never heard of any!) during the day, which allowed me to relax and have a blast.

From the ceremony, to cocktail hour, pictures, cake cutting, dancing, and the sparkler send off, all components were there and nothing felt rushed. A bride once told me to take a minute to look out at your guests and soak it all in, telling me “you’ll never experience that feeling with everyone you love ever again” and she was right. Tom and I are so luckily to have so many special people in our lives that helped celebrate our love story.

The amazing team from Bella Signature Design was a huge contributor in making my dream wedding come to life. They worked with me every step of the way, sending ideas back and forth by email, and completely understood my vision for a soft, romantic feel.

I knew I wouldn’t have to do to much decorating considering how beautiful DeLille Cellars already is, but they helped incorporate big soft pink flowers, vintages vases and bottles, sweet burlap signs, and lots and lots of candles. After taking in our creation from the bridal suite above the tent, I was in awe how everything came together so beautifully.

After thinking back on our day, Tom and I agreed there were very minor things that we would have done differently. However, one thing that I would have gone back and done was slow down and better soak in all the little details. I didn’t have the opportunity to see most of the decor including the table numbers, drink flags, handmade signs, or the escort board until our photos came out!

It would have been so nice to fully appreciate my vision that was brought to life and the components I obsessed over for the past year. However, this was all due to the fact that I was having such an amazing time with my friends and family that I just didn’t set aside time to look at all the details.

Another thing that I would have done differently is I would have been more mindful about my get-away bag! It was lost in the shuffle and didn’t make it back to the hotel with me, which meant I didn’t have any clothes the next morning (except my wedding dress, of course!).

We also headed to a local bar to continue the celebration and I didn’t have any shoes that didn’t kill my feet after dancing. I decided to live in the moment, go barefoot, and not let the small “no shoes” excuse end my night. I’m so glad I did! Those are the small, silly details that you tend to remember forever.

Adam and Beth Ann were married on her family’s historic rainbow-trout farm nestled among the colorful hills of Hickman County. After the beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony, guests mingled around the fire-pit by the creek until dinner was served. Beth Ann’s brother and his 7 year old daughter serenaded the newlyweds for their first dances, and before the evening was over, Beth Ann’s brother surprised her with a song he wrote just for her.

I knew it was going to be a perfect day when it began with yoga by the lake, sipping coffee on the screened in porch, and being serenaded by my brothers as I got all dolled up. Adam and I wanted that feeling of home to continue through the evening and be felt by all who came. I believe our intimate outdoor ceremony, serving communion to our friends and family, eating southern cooking and apple pie, and dancing the night away to my brother’s band, was simply –  us. We cherish our home grown wedding as it allowed us to savor each moment, appreciate each detail, and celebrate the love we share with our favorite people!

The ceremony was held just a few yards from where Beth Ann’s parents were married almost 32 years prior. During the ceremony, Adam and Beth Ann served communion. “We wanted our first act as a married couple to be one of service,” said Beth Ann.
