Texas Wedding With A Twist

texas inspired wedding ideas

Brett and Whitney met and live in New York City, but when it came to their wedding, they wanted to go back to their roots and host the wedding in her hometown of Austin. The goal was to treat the weekend as a destination wedding, imparting a true taste of Austin – from its lakes and live music to its Tex-Mex and BBQ.
Another fun facet of their wedding was the date: Halloween! So the wedding didn’t turn into a theme party, they balanced the rustic Texas elements and the novelty of Halloween details with a casual elegance true to them. See all of the details from this Texas wedding with a twist in the full gallery here, photographed by Nadine Photography.

A Weekend Of Fun

The weekend kicked off Thursday with a private sunset bat cruise through Capital Cruises. Friday night’s welcome dinner delivered the Tex-Mex experience with a mariachi band, personalized papel picado from Lulu Flora, flowing margaritas, and a fajita bar at Hula Hut. Sunday’s send-off brunch served our favorite breakfast tacos from Torchy's Tacos Garage at the “South Austin Trailer Park & Eatery,” a funky roadside collection of food trucks that definitely communicated “Keep Austin Weird” charm.

Caramel Apple Bar

In addition to the Texas details, we wanted to nod – albeit subtly – to our wedding date: Halloween. Guests found their name cards tied to mini white pumpkins set atop mismatched vintage salad plates. The most fun parts of the wedding came from The Cupcake Bar: A custom caramel-dipped apple bar during cocktail hour then “roaming candy bars” for guests to make trick-or-treat bags of candy (our favors) during dancing. We also passed our masquerade masks for guests to wear while dancing, so no one had to miss out of Halloween fun for our wedding.
