Keeping Perspective

From the Bride: My wedding was a destination wedding and about half of who we invited were able to make it. I found myself being disappointed at that, but I had to keep reminding myself not everyone could make the trek across the country. One of my great friends said something that really resonated with me, and I'd like to pass it along: "You need to remember that your wedding is not the most important day for everyone else. It is the most important day for YOU. Just because people can't make it or don't make it a priority does not mean they don't care about you."

If you're thinking about having a destination wedding, really think about whether it will sadden you if a lot of people can't make it. If it will, you should rethink your location! At the end of the day, I'm very happy with our choice. Our closest friends and family were there, and that made it very intimate and even more special (not to mention, cheaper!).

Whoops Whoops Whoops

The days leading up to the wedding were STRESSFUL. We live on the east coast and had a flight to San Diego the Monday before our Saturday wedding. This was in late December, so naturally, winter weather hit. Our flight ended up being cancelled because of a winter storm in Chicago (our layover airport) and they couldn't reschedule us until WEDNESDAY. I was devastated. We had planned to do a lot of last-minute errands for the wedding (welcome bags, favors, hair/makeup trial, etc.) and have a little R&R, but those were out of the question since we couldn't be there. Oh No! Click to hear how they resolved this issue only to run into two more ...

Luckily, some of our wedding guests lived in San Diego and were able to run most of the errands for us (I will forever be grateful for them!).

On top of that, I had reserved a Rent the Runway dress for the wedding reception and they called me the same day our flight got cancelled to tell me the dress had been damaged by the renter before me, so they didn't have a dress for me. At this point, I couldn't believe my ears and almost had to laugh - how could so many things be going wrong?! As soon as we got to San Diego, I spent a few hours shopping and found the most perfect gold, sequin dress that I liked even better than the RTR dress!

They say bad things come in 3s, right? The last thing to go wrong was one of my contact lenses BROKE and I didn't have a backup! My vision is awful and I didn't want to be wearing glasses during the wedding, so I had to call my eye doctor, have them e-mail me my prescription, and then hunt down a place that had my prescription in stock. It was an ordeal, but I found a place that had some trial contact lenses for me - free of charge! After all that, it was New Year's Eve and all of our guests were there, so I just let all the stress go and everything was perfect the rest of the week!
