DIY Inner City Wedding

birdcage veil

Julia and Ariel are a couple that put the 'slick' in city slicker, and this translated beautifully into their Sunday inner city wedding. Since they had to keep their guest count low, they went with Brooklyn venue, My Moon restaurant. This intimate New York wedding venue did not prevent their celebration from turning into one banging party.
Be sure to visit the full gallery here in order to squeeze every last bit of fun out of their wedding. All captured by international wedding photographer Bobby Earle. Keep reading to hear more from Julia about their day, and their full budget breakdown.

From the Bride: My most memorable moment of our day was during our first look. Ariel looked so handsome! I was so incredibly happy to have those few minutes before the ceremony and reception to just take it all in, all the beauty around us, and seeing him so emotional just made everything so much more exciting. I was filled with so much joy and couldn't wait to walk down the aisle to see him again.

We opted for Sprout Home who is located right in the neighborhood for the floral arrangements. On our meeting day I sat down with a lovely lady and literally said," I want a bunch of flowers that look like they were just picked from a garden". And she got me! I have no idea what kind of flowers I had (they kindly provided the list of each type, of course), but they were absolutely beautiful. I just love that she understood what I meant from the start.

Ariel and Julia chose My Moon and its beautifully unique look and feel for their intimate wedding. This Brooklyn restaurant was once an abandoned factory and is now a vibrant example of the neighborhood’s continuous transformation. My Moon features Mediterranean cuisine with a Spanish flare, seasonally crafted cocktails, and awe-inspiring ambiance.

From the Bride:I wish I wore two dresses. Although I loved my dress, we got married on one of the hottest days of the year and dancing in my wedding gown was extremely uncomfortable. Even if I had decided not to wear my back up dress, I wish I would have had the option.

Read on to see how much this diy inner city wedding cost. Please note that costs change as the years go by, and prices are subject to change. This is just one couple’s breakdown to give you a rough estimate on how much a wedding like this may cost you.

We agreed on a 30K budget for our wedding. We decided to have a day time wedding on Sunday which helped us save a lot.   I also wanted to use the amazing talents of my wonderful friends which helped immensely. My friend Teresa who is seriously talented created my veil. My bridesmaids did their own hair. And the makeup was also done at home by Caritza who kindly did mine and the girls. We saved on bridesmaids dresses expenses by renting those gorgeous Badgly Mischa dresses from Rent the Runway. It was a little risky since the girls did not rent them before for a trial, but since Rent the runway provides two different size we were very grateful everything turned out great and the girls looked beautiful!
Ariel and I wrote the ceremony together and had it officiated by our friend Aaisha. It was such a special ceremony and my favorite part of the wedding of course! Another thing that I truly enjoyed and helped us stay in budget was  all of the DIY projects like Save the Dates (which we use your super cute calendar template) invitations, programs and seating number assignments. We worked so hard on this wedding and everything turned out wonderfully. We wanted a celebration and that is exactly how it turned out--great food, lots of laughter and crazy dancing!
