Peach Wedding In Colorado Wine Country

gray and peach wedding

Amongst the warmth and beauty of late summer, Dale and Tim said “I do” in Colorado Wine Country, Grand Junction. A peach color palette was perfect for the season. Gorgeous florals from 3 Leaf Floral, a lovely reception area at Canyon View Vineyard, and a lot of DIY work from the bride, ensured that the day was a success from start to finish.

More peach galore from this peach wedding in Colorado wine country awaits you in the full gallery here, magnificently photographed by Cat Mayer Studio.

Dale is a graphic designer who designed all of the beautiful printed materials and lettering for signage for the wedding. Tim is a pastor at the church where they were married. He is a singer/songwriter, and wrote and played a special song for Dale at the ceremony.

From the Bride:
I went to art school, so I have more power-tool knowledge than your average bride! I built all of the wooden boxes for the tables out of fence posts, painted gold stripes on ivory burlap for table runners, strung silk flowers on quilting thread for the floral curtain, etc.

Other than that, I think the only thing I wish I would have done differently is to have some more knowledge on how the actual day should have gone down. I.E. who is going to clean up, etc? I had all of the creative vision to see what the day would look like, just not the know-how to see it run smoothly. I’m sure that is why most people hire a wedding planner… whoops!

Read on to see how much this peach wedding in Colorado wine country cost. Please note that costs change as the years go by, and prices are subject to change. This is just one couple’s breakdown to give you a rough estimate on how much a wedding like this may cost you.

From the Bride:

I think you'll be surprised at what I ended up spending on my wedding... As a graphic designer I was able to trade my skills for goods & services for my wedding.

Photography- $3,000
Dress & Alterations- $2,000
Venue- free (my husband works at the beautiful church we got married in)
Flowers- $1,500
Decor- $500
Food- $350 (We purchased everything from a local grocery store and had willing friends & family ready to prep and man the grills. This gave us a very affordable way to feed our guests a delicious meal without paying for a caterer)
Photobooth- $500
Tablecloths, plates, napkins- $200
Cupcakes & small cake to cut- $100 (We had a talented friend who hooked us up :)

I was pleased with our end total. I wanted to have a beautiful wedding, but didn't want to pay the price that the wedding industry often demands. I found creative ways to include what I wanted and not break the bank.

From the Bride:
We had been together 7 years when Bob proposed to me on Christmas Eve. Both being Colorado natives, we knew we wanted to get married in Colorado, and of course, outdoors. We hadn’t done much research on venues, and then for a weekend getaway following our engagement, we went to a long-time favorite hot springs up near Buena Vista. While we were up there, we asked about their wedding venue and availability, and actually set the date then and there. We knew it just felt right to have it there, in the gorgeous collegiate peak setting.

Colorado wedding

Saturday morning of the wedding, the sky was blue and there was not a cloud visible in the valley. It was definitely a surreal morning, having everything catered towards what I wanted or needed, and having my best friends and closest family right by my side. By the time of the ceremony, I knew there would be no backing out of having an outdoor wedding in case of rain (our backup plan by this point was to have a rain delay). But with moments before the official start time of the ceremony, a big clap of thunder rang out, but there was still not a cloud in sight, and with a fearful look to my bridesmaids, they assured me it would be fine. The sun was still shining and it was time. We did a traditional tying of the knot, where two pieces of ribbon are tied together to signify the couple becoming one.

Getting everything ready for the wedding was an entire family project. My brother cut down Aspen trees on a friend’s property in order to make the rustic candleholders to use as the centerpieces. My mom and I collected jars and bottles from the kitchen to paint and tie ribbons around for the table vases. My dad took an old ping pong table from my grandmother’s basement to make the corn hole game boards, and my mom sewed the bags to go with them. My bridesmaids spent a day helping make the hundreds of paper pom flowers that we strung across the ceiling in the pavilion for the reception. As a designer, I loved undertaking all the assets that went into the wedding, including our Save the Dates, our wedding website and the entire process of having our invitation suite letter pressed, and hand addressed in calligraphy.

At the end of the night, I was so thankful for everyone who not only attended, but helped with all the details, big and small, leading up to our wedding day. And despite all the time and stress there was for planning, I also had a great time during it, and was able to see it all pay off with how smoothly the weekend went. Some of the best advice I got, and now share, is to just enjoy yourself throughout the day, have fun, dance if you want to, and don’t worry about talking to every single person at the wedding. With over two hundred guests, it would have been nearly impossible to do it all, but we still acknowledged and appreciated everyone who was there.

Read on to see how much this elegant pink and navy Colorado wedding cost. Please note that costs change as the years go by, and prices are subject to change. This is just one couple’s breakdown to give you a rough estimate on how much a wedding like this may cost you.

With the wedding expenses, I knew I was willing to invest with photography, since that was ultimately the most important on my list, something we could both cherish forever. With that being said, I knew I needed to adjust in other areas, which is partly why I wanted to do so much on my own. (That, and I really enjoyed all these projects I got to do with my family.) The largest cost of the wedding was the catering, which ended up being about $10,000, and we had 220 guests.  Our total expenses ended up going slightly over our initial budget, but we also ended up having a larger guest list than initially planned too.  We were able to do it all for well under $30,000.  Having the help and willingness of so many close friends and family made having our (what I would call large) wedding possible and within a reasonable budget for us.

Rustic Romance Wedding At The Dana Powers House

ken kienow wedding photography

Evelyn and Steven love just a little bit of everything adorable, anything rustic, vintage, or a teensy bit country is right up their alley. They turned a rustic vision into a stunning aesthetic and it is definitely evident in their wedding! The color palette ranged between lavender, peach, and sage hues. Judi Powers made their dream come true with beautiful decor all around at the Dana Powers House. Tons of DIY projects and lots of love went into making this wedding the sensation that it was.

Don’t miss any of the darling details of this rustic romance wedding! View the full gallery here, wonderfully captured by Ken Kienow.

From the Bride:
I had never thought much about what my wedding would look or feel like, so we started by thinking about the story we wanted to tell on our day and how we could represent our personalities. Steven and I met in Los Angeles, where we both have lived for a long time, but we also both grew up in the South (him: Arkansas, me: Georgia) and wanted to capture the best of Southern hospitality alongside the natural beauty of California for our families and guests to enjoy. The desire for a rustic barn reception led us to the Dana Powers House and the amazing Central Coast area.

One of our favorite moments from the wedding day was the first look. It was such an emotional and intimate moment with my best friend. I wouldn’t trade it for the world, and the photographs of our reactions help solidify those irreplaceable memories. The pastor who officiated our ceremony was also able to join us and pray a blessing over our marriage. We also wrote our own vows, which was a task that got pushed back until the very last minute, but I loved that they held so much meaning for us as a couple. A lot of our vows came from writings we collected during an engaged couples’ retreat through our church, so they were a thread woven through our whole engagement.

All of our vendors were incredible and I couldn’t offer enough praise for the amazing work they do. I have to single out Judi Powers at the Dana Powers House for being just the absolute best at what she does, which is make rustic/vintage/barn wedding dreams come true, and she has an dreamy collection of vintage rentals to boot. She is so kind, too, and like all our vendors was a real joy to be around, even when I was peppering her relentlessly with bride-type questions that she probably answers 1,000 times each year.

Signature Cocktail Idea-
Our signature cocktails, which we served individually in 8 oz. mason jars garnished with small apples, were from a recipe created by D. Max Maxey, a colleague of Steven’s. Midnight Moon Apple Pie moonshine was the cocktail base. We spent about a full year going to flea markets and used books stores to collect old books and vintage lavender bottles for our centerpieces, which
Lori Boe integrated so beautifully. We also found the reclaimed mantel that we got married in front of at an architectural salvage shop near downtown Los Angeles. Steven and his best man transported it from the L.A. area up to the wedding site, and now it has a special place in the Embellish Vintage Rentals collection for other weddings and events.

The menu was a big deal to us, and Trumpet Vine Catering really did a stellar job of taking our crazy idea to have Southern-style breakfast supper and elevating it to the next level. They did an awesome welcome table with beverages and lavender-lemon shortbread cookies for guests arriving to the ceremony. At the cocktail hour, there were passed trays of fried-green tomatoes, pickled beets, and deviled eggs. The big food surprises for our guests at the reception were the fried chicken ‘n’ waffles station with condiment bar, the pie bar for dessert (no cake), and the s’mores pit outside the barn at night.

Looking back, it was a truly magical day we spent surrounded by our nearest and dearest. Everything was even more wonderful than I had anticipated, and we were both blown away by the whole experience. We tried to just slow time down and drink it all in at different points throughout the day. I’m so glad we decided to go with many of our offbeat ideas, and eschew some of the more traditional wedding practices, so that we could have time to simply celebrate with everyone.
