My fiance and I just got married on June 30th – and our total cost, including a 7-day honeymoon at an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica was just over $14,000. And I wouldn’t have changed a thing. We are both professionals, in our mid-thirties with good jobs and our own houses. We don’t spend excessively. It is possible to have a beautiful wedding without going broke…or paying for it for years. What was most important to us was our vows and sharing that day with family and friends.

I got married in June 2011 and spent a total of $10,000 on EVERYTHING wedding related – ceremony, reception, dress, all accessories, flowers, photography, DJs, hotel stay, transportation, rehearsal dinner, honeymoon…everything! I’ll be writing a blog post on it soon! It was a miracle for sure! :)

I feel better being well below the CA average. I thought I overspent for my 100+ guests wedding next month. No honeymoon for us though. It’s a road trip from CA back to WA state!
My wedding, including honeymoon in Cancun, will be less than $5,000 and I haven’t sacrificed anything I felt I wanted or needed. It can be done! 24 days and counting :)

I think this is one of the more realistic assessments of wedding costs I’ve seen. The only cost that I find a little strange is the engagement ring. In proportion to everything else, I think this assessment is a little high.

We definitely will be spending more on certain things like the ceremony venue and engagement ring but less on certain things like the photographer and catering. Overall we will be right around $25K, not including my ring, wedding dress or honeymoon. I’ve been dreaming of my wedding since I was little and, while I could definitely get married for much less, it is something important to me and my fiance that we feel is worth spending our money on. We will have been engaged for 23.5 months by the time we get married because we wanted to have time to save the money to have the wedding we wanted. I think every bride’s willingness and ability to spend money on certain things is different and the important things are different for every bride. I know people who have spent a lot more and a lot less but this does seem to be pretty average considering the full range.
I’d like to know where they are getting their “stats” because I think they are waaaaaaay off especially for CA & NYC. Not a fan of these graphs for the most obvious reason… brides forget that these are averages and not actuals….I really wish a wedding in NYC was that inexpensive.

Interesting! I am very young so I’m sure I throw off the averages quite a bit. But I had a WAY different budget breakdown for my wedding. It also depends on what your priorities are. I’ve personally never even been to a wedding where the catering was so extravagant (but man would that be a treat!). To each their own :) Every wedding is different!!!

Goodness, I must be in the minority here because my wedding was a whopping $65,000! Then again, it was at a fancy winery in California with a big guest list. Four of my friends also got married the same year and theirs was about the same price as mine. It all depends on your style and priorities! I would not have changed a thing!

i, too, think it seems pretty far off. in michigan, the average we’re seeing is about 2-3 times that in the majority of those categories.
This is very intimidating for those preparing to marry. I think people try to get everyone ready to spend this kind of money,,passing it along as”usual”. My daughter’s wedding will be around 6000.00 including everything. This is even an 1800 victorian mansion as the site. Look around Mothers and Brides, there is beauty at a much lower cost.

I have so much respect for all the brides and grooms (and their families) who save prodigiously, share the work load between supportive friends & families and use DIY tips as much as possible to pull of their storybook weddings.
Until one’s been there, they have little idea just how hard it is, how many decisions must be made (and made again), how many dreams must be cut back on, how much time & sheer devotion a wedding requires and how important it is to find the money to get help from a professional who can shoulder so much of the ‘stress’ and issues that come up.
And I firmly believe that the younger the bride the more important it is that she has a professional guiding her, available to answer questions, helping her avoid silly mistakes, and holding her hand through the rough bits.
That’s my opinion and I stand by it.

Great to have some one who is daring to post the costing of a wedding. The Knot and other websites always lowball the cost of flowers and my concern is that flowers are so taken for granted in the wedding budgets. Yours is more realistic than most….flowers have risen in cost so drastically in the past 2 years. My effort is for the girls to understand what flowers actually cost so that florists can begin to get their labor charged for again. Flowers are very laborous and are only considered on the low end of the wedding cost scale. Flowers should be up around 3000.00 for an average wedding when considering the original requests of brides. That 1900.00 & change figure is on costing based in 2009 and this is 2012….the cost of flowers has doubled in some areas and less in others. Different flowers each cost different amounts. They are not able to be figured as other vendors with “hard good” costs. Thanks again for posting….though I will be glad to work with you to get some good solid floral costing out there! Keep being courageous!

wedding photographers in san diego average price is $3500. If Brides are following the average budget numbers of allocating 10% of a $36,000 wedding budget mentioned in this post, would that mean that said Brides are only getting an “average” wedding photographer in san diego for $3500?
