Do It Yourself Two Sided Felt Heart Pillow Cake Topper

Do It Yourself, or DIY, wedding projects allow you to create your own personalized favors and touches that can be applied in any way you can imagine on your special day, for a shower or party. All you need are some basic items and a little creativity.

This Do It Yourself Two Sided Felt Heart Pillow Cake Topper is the perfect little beauty for weddings, showers, or every day occasions. See other do-it-yourself wedding projects.

Step 1: Assemble Your Supplies. For this project, you will need:

  1. Two standard-size pieces of felt in the contrasting colors of your choice
  2. Three lollipop sticks, available in the cake decorating section of most crafts stores
  3. Fabric glue
  4. Approximately five yards 3/8 ribbon
  5. Safety pins
  6. Craft knife
  7. Freezer paper (optional)
  8. Embellishments, such as buttons, iron-on appliques, vintage stud earings, decorative brads, etc.
  9. Needle and embroidery floss (not shown)
  10. Polyfill or other pillow stuffing (not shown)

Step 2: Draw or trace larger heart onto paper. Carefully cut heart template. (We folded the paper in half to ensure that both sides were symmetrical.)

Step 3: Safety pin paper template to felt and cut around template. Repeat, creating two identical hearts. (If using optional freezer paper, adhere paper waxy-side down with iron on medium heat. Trace heart shape onto freezer paper and cut.)
Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 with smaller heart.

Step 5: Using fabric glue, attach smaller heart to larger heart. Repeat with other cutout hearts.
Step 6: Attach embellishments using fabric glue. For studded earings and brads, attach by piercing felt with a craft knife and then inserting stud or brad.

Step 7: Create a loop by folding a ribbon in half and glue on the inside of one of the hearts. Using embroidery floss, stitch around the outer edges of the heart, leaving room to insert stuffing.
Step 8: Stuff pillow and finish stitching.

Step 9: Wrap ribbon around lollipop sticks and adhere with fabric glue. Use embroidery floss to tie sticks together.
Step 10: Hang heart on sticks. Carefully insert into cake.

Note: Before creating your felt heart cake topper, be sure you know the dimensions of the top tier so you can determine how big your heart should be as well as how far apart the supports should be.

, they can do some things thsevelmes in the meantime. They can:-Get the best photo of thsevelmes that they can, and use for their avatar. Those with no budget can get a friend to take a photo of them outside on an overcast day (good lighting), with a plain background.-Think of a short, memorable and nifty name for their company/service/whatever. Use it for their url, twitter handle, etc.-Sonia’s idea is great! They could have their name written in their favorite (websafe) font-Pick their favorite color and use it everywhere: in blog headers, in the background of their site, etc. Then the trick is, once they’ve picked their thing , they should do it EVERYWHERE. On their blog, with their twitter account, Google+, LinkedIn, Moo card, cheap t-shirt, email signature, what-have-you. Consistent usage is one aspect of branding they can implement cheaply or even for free!I don’t know of any posts on this, but now everyone’s comments are all contributing, so this post is becoming one. It’s like barn-building for DIY branding.
