What Happens When a Wedding Planner Plans her Own Wedding?

We were honored when Bernadette Smith and Jen Covey asked us to film their wedding last Summer. We had known Bernadette since 2004, when she had started It’s About Time, the first wedding planning service in America that worked exclusively with same sex couples.  Coincidentally, we had just filmed the first same sex wedding in Boston, and in reaching out to the same sex wedding market, we met Bernadette.
Now, six years later, Bernadette was planning her own wedding to Jen Covey, creative Director of the newly rebranded 14 Stories, a wedding planning service gaining nationally acclaim for planning weddings for all types of couples.

Jen and Bernadette’s wedding took place at the Boston Exchange Center on the water over the July 4 weekend. The décor was in shades of deep blue, white and silver, the designs echoed the curves of waves, the entrée’ was lobster and an oceanic theme was carried out throughout. Boston Uplighting provided stunning effects in the reception.

Wedding celebrant Cindy Matchett welcomed the guests with a champagne toast after Jen and Bernadette processed down the aisle with their families and friends to “Your Precious Love.”

After the ceremony, Jen and Bernadette went off to spend a bit of time alone while guests headed out to the patio to enjoy the signature cocktail “My Wild Irish Rose” and music by an Irish Band.

After cocktails the brides were announced into the reception to “CRAZY LOVE” and dancing began immediately.

After toasts by family, Bernadette offered a traditional Irish toast of mead to the guests. The dramatic high point of the celebration was a surprise appearance of drag queen Mizery bursting into the reception and adding glamour and attitude to the event dancing to “We Are Family.

A place of honor was set for a very unbalanced homemade strawberry shortcake while guests enjoyed a more refined version of the same treat.
