Wham, BAM! Joan Shum Is Bringing The Corset Back.
We had the pleasure of visiting Joan Shum’s studio when we borrowed a dress from her for our Style Lab Workshop and what a treat it was. First off, Joan is as sweet as pie! Her studio was a creative heaven of tulle, gorgeous fabrics and wedding dresses galore. She has the cutest Jack Russel with the fitting name, Jack who follows her every move.
When you walk into her studio, you will want to try on everything and dip yourself into a corset. Which by the way did happen, it was a bit hard to resist.
Why should you wear a Corset on your wedding day?
Well… to look fabulous of course but they also will make you appear thinner, instantly. It’s true! Corsets are designed to reduce your waistline, and flatten your stomach just by putting the corset on. Love that! Joan also shared with us that she can design one of her Corsets to fit any shape or size.
All of Joan’s pieces are designed as separates, so you can mix and match. They all have that vintage-inspired feel but with a modern twist. All of herĀ dresses are made-to-order and everything from the length of the skirt to the style of the corset down to the color is customized so your gown is guaranteed to be a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
Surprisingly enough, a Joan Shum Couture custom gown is not terribly expensive. You are going to be spending just as much on something that is ready to wear.
One of our favorite photographers, Stephanie Williams has some spectacular photos of Joan’s dresses that you might want to check out. Click here to see more. It was such a pleasure meeting Joan and if you would like more information on her dresses you can visit her web site or visit one of the boutiques that carries her dresses.

Firstly, I want to thank you weddingchicks for featuring me. Having them at my studio was so much fun. The weddingchicks were funnychicks, down-to-earthchicks, and very sweetchicks. Did I mention hotchicks?! very inspiring, they are.

Wow, what a stunning design and such detail. Any bride lucky enough to wear this corset will look a million dollars.
One Word
“YUMMY”
Joan’s studio looks really nice and the corset is stunning.
Joan Shum’s work is incredible and so inspiring for me, as a bride, as I’m trying to steer away from a too traditional wedding and still look sexy and individual. She shows a lot of her gowns with a sheer long sleeve “vest”. Could you tell me where I can get something like that please? Thanks!
